DOOM
The aim of this project was to explore ways in which a designer can achieve a sense of con-
vergence and formal cohesion between two visual languages. I creaeted a 16 page booklet ex-
ploring the storyline of video game series - “DOOM” and focused on the difference in weap-
ons, dialougue and visuals as the game progressed. Throughout the project i experimented
with different themes and ideas and was able to show visual connection bewteen image and
color in relation to the contexual idea of the game. I wanted to create a visible relationship
beetween the booklet i made and gaming magazines from that 90’s-00’s by usuing similar
page layouts and detailing. `

weapons which can be collected and
freely switched by players throughout
the game and require no reloading.
Recurring weapons of the series also
make a return, including the super
shotgun and BFG 9000. The BFG has
a very small ammunition capacity,
but is extremely powerful. Similarly,
the chainsaw returns, but has been
reintroduced as a special-use weapon
that relies upon fuel, but can be used
to instantly cut through enemies and
provide a greater-than-normal drop of
ammunition for the player.

Many enemies also return from the


original game, such as the Revenant,
Pinky, Mancubus, and Cyberdemon,
with many also redesigned. Doom’s
campaign was made to be at least 13
hours long, and the “Ultra-Nightmare”
difficulty level features permadeath,
which causes the savegame to be lost
once the player dies. The campaign
also features 13 levels.

Many of the levels have multiple


pathways and open areas, which allow
players to explore and find collectibles
and secrets throughout the levels.
Many of these collectibles can be used
as part of Doom’s progression system, ----------------

After retrieving a celestial locator from the Sentinel world of Exultia, the Slayer
travels to Hell to retrieve a power source from an exiled Sentinel known as the
Betrayer, who gives him the power source and a special dagger but not before
warning him that saving his people will only make his burden worse. VEGA directs
the Slayer to Deag Ranak’s citadel in the Arctic, where the Slayer kills him after
taking out his Doom Hunters. In response, the Khan Maykr moves Deag Grav to
a hidden location and accelerates the invasion of Earth. With no leads on finding
the last Hell Priest, VEGA suggests finding Dr. Hayden, who knows his location. The
Slayer goes to an ARC compound where he retrieves Hayden’s damaged robot chassis
and the demonic Crucible.

Upon uploading Hayden’s mind into the fortress, he reveals Deag Grav is hiding on

Transformers

Due to their smooth surface, road-side


visibility and no said owner, these typ-
ically green transformers fall victim to
vandalism on a daily basiss. Here they
have become a staple of street graffiti
and are easy targets for anyone with
a marker walking round Auckland city.
You’re bound to come across these cha-
otic boxes filled with all sorts of colours,
tags and stickers. They often get buffed
or cleaned but this doesn’t effect the
cycle, it simply creates a fresh canvas
for those yet to cross its path.

Graffiti on roadside transformers, often


seen as colorful urban art, serves as a
striking testament to the intersection
of creativity and urban infrastructure.
These once-plain utility boxes now
showcase the unique voices and talents
of local artists, transforming mundane
structures into vibrant canvases that
tell stories, express emotions, or convey
important social messages. While some
may consider this form of expression
vandalism, others view it as a way to
bring life and character to the streets,
turning otherwise overlooked objects
into public art that sparks conversation
and adds a sense of identity to a neigh-
borhood.
I created a master-head with the word “CLIFFE”. I originally inspired my typeface off of
ancient armaic script. I wanted to work with the idea of making a legible master-head
but from a distance or at first glance appears to be in aramaic writing. I compared and
contrasted similar typefaces and found a common theme of horror movies and games.
Aramaic script was used quite a lot to give the impression of the unknown or demonic
presence so i decided to use my master-head to mock-up the release of a demonic vid-
eo-game.

I created an image based info-graphic documenting the production, import and export
of fruit and vegetables in Spain. The idea was to show a connection between the statistics
visually and show an easy comparision between fuits/vegtables from a glance without
having to read too much into the statistics. The use of a key seperate from the info-graph-
ic allows for easy visual reading and you can explore the relatiuonships between each
statistic

WEBSITE
I created an interactive website using a digital collage of photos i took from National
Geographic magazines. I wanted to create confusing perspectives and an “inception” type
illusion. I made the website so that when you hover over one of the images of the collage
it expands slightly suggesting you click on it. Once clicked on the it reveals the whole
un-cropped image and allows you to unpiece the puzzle. Throughout the project i was
able to experiment with physical collage and work on merging that into a digital website.
Through the use of two different mediums I was able to experiment with scale and con-
trast in ways that would be limited if i were to do it digitally. When creating a site viewable
from mobile devicesi had to create a new composition that worked in scale but still show
the same visual ideas.
