Foreword
The Blooming Haus right from the
entry impresses you with its beautiful
and harmonious incorporation of
nature into spaces. Right from the site
which retains the existing Tabebuia -
Pink Trumpet Trees. The contrast of
the grey concrete facade with the
pretty faded pink flowers almost feels
like a movie set. Interior spaces reflect
the urban fabric with its light and airy
recreational spaces on each floor. The
use of different types of recreational
spaces like your carved seating in
the library or open-air theatre on the
terrace is very unique to see in a home
and with The Blooming Haus it is
done right and feels cosy. The beauty
of expandable architecture is very
apparent in this project because of
the flexibility the architects have given
in the design. Overall The Blooming
Haus is a spectacular Bangalore home
that works well given the client’s
requirements and site.

The Blooming Haus
Project Context
Situated in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, The Blooming Haus finds its muse in the natural elements
surrounding it. Nestled on a plot at the southwest corner, it boasts a hillock to the east and a renowned
temple beyond. Embraced by flourishing spring blossom trees and a vibrant yellow flower line tree,
the residence draws inspiration from its verdant surroundings, reflected in the sunny hue adorning
its facade. Reflecting modern minimalist architecture, the house is designed to accommodate a
couple, their parents, and their son.

Stilt Floor
The stilt floor is dedicated to housing a car park and the servants’ quarters, ensuring convenient
access. Setbacks have been intentionally designed on all sides to accommodate lush vegetation,
serving as a natural buffer. This greenery can be admired from every corner of the house. Welcoming
visitors with a vibrant yellow gate, the entrance unfolds into a majestic staircase that gracefully
ascends to the first floor.

Ground Floor
Upon reaching the first floor, one enters the heart of the residence, the inner sanctum. This level
is dedicated to the social spaces, designed in an open-floor layout that fosters connectivity and
accessibility throughout. A double-height living area lends grandeur to the entire floor, complemented
by views of a tranquil water feature adorned with a lush green screen and a leisure deck. Adjacent
to the living space, one finds the dining area, a pooja room, and a well-appointed kitchen. For the
convenience and privacy of guests, a comfortable bedroom is thoughtfully situated on this floor.

Entrance Foyer
Greeting visitors with a vibrant yellow front gate, equipped with both pedestrian and car entries,
invites them into the abode. The pedestrian gate unveils a sequence of steps guiding individuals to
the first floor of the residence. Crafted from a combination of black kota and jaisalmer stones, these
steps harmonize with the overall material palette of the home. Along the open side of the staircase,
planters are strategically placed, infusing a touch of greenery and natural charm into the space.

Living Area
Upon ascending to the first floor, the living room warmly welcomes guests as the primary space they
encounter. Enhanced by its double-height ceiling, the living area exudes a sense of grandeur and
spaciousness. Minimalist furniture accents the living room, alongside a distinctive jhoola (swing)
design, adding character to the space. Acting as both a TV unit and a partition, shelves adorn one
side, providing functional storage. Indoor vegetation brings a touch of nature indoors, enhancing
the ambiance. The flooring boasts a whimsical blend of black granite interspersed with triangular
pieces of jaisalmer, creating a captivating geometric pattern that adds a unique visual appeal to the
space.

Deck
Next to the living room lies a deck situated above a tranquil water feature, providing a serene spot
for relaxation and leisure. Framed by lush greenery, this area emerges as a beloved sanctuary within
the home. Topped with a pergola, the space enjoys abundant natural light, fostering an ambiance
reminiscent of outdoor living.

Pooja Space
The Pooja room is a peaceful haven for reflection and meditation inside the house that
epitomizes minimalism and serenity. The area is surrounded by metal panels with small openings in
them and concrete panels that let in constant light from the background. The light inside is increased
even more by the skylight above. Grey tones are used to decorate the platform and the pebbles
below, and creepers add a hint of greenery and natural vibrancy to the setting.

Kitchen
The kitchen’s design was carefully considered to optimize light in its small space. The platform and
cabinet surfaces are luminous in the same sunny tones as the outside, echoing the brilliant yellow
hues. The kitchen exudes a warm, inviting atmosphere that is enhanced by white and warm wood
accents. During busy days, a useful location for a quick snack is a cozy breakfast nook. Warm wood,
yellow, white, and reflective surfaces are all skillfully used to give the kitchen the appearance of
greater space than it is.

Staircase
As the main attraction of the home, the staircase is made of triangles that are structured in an eye-
catching manner to create a truly remarkable sculpture. The staircase stands out against a backdrop
of a grey wall embellished with yellow metal pieces that complement the outdoor hues and flooring.
Throughout the day, a skylight at the top of the staircase provides an abundance of natural light to
the space. A captivating depth is added to the room as sunlight streams through the wooden treads
of the staircase, creating captivating patterns that change as the sun moves.

First Floor Plan

The first floor of the house is like a multipurpose den catering to every need of the occupants of this
floor. It has a bedroom with attached walk-in wardrobe and a toilet. For leaisure and recreational
activities, there is a library, an indoor verandah and a reading nook.

Indoor Court
Toward the east, an indoor court beckons, offering a versatile area for various activities. Featuring
sunken seating, this space transforms effortlessly into a serene reading nook or a lively play area for
children. Multiple openings facing eastward welcome the first rays of sunlight, ensuring the space
is bathed in natural light throughout the day. Nestled in one corner is an indoor tree, seamlessly
blending the tranquility of nature with the interior setting. Adorned entirely in wood, the space
radiates warmth and coziness, inviting moments of relaxation and recreation.

Library
Situated toward the south, the library embodies serenity and tranquility, offering a haven for quiet
contemplation. A dedicated study table enhances its functionality as a conducive space for focused
work. A partition wall divides the library from a cozy reading nook, featuring multiple shelves in
a cheerful yellow hue. These shelves serve both as storage solutions and as niches for displaying
cherished items. Continuing the design motif found throughout the house, the flooring features
grey kota with accents of yellow jaisalmer stone, creating a harmonious visual continuity.

Reading Nook
On the opposite side of the partition, the reading nook offers a serene retreat adorned with shelves
and a comfortable seating area. Continuing the design language from the partition, niches in shades
of grey and yellow provide storage for books and a platform for displaying cherished showpieces.
This simple yet inviting space beckons individuals to immerse themselves in the joy of reading and
relaxation.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom serves as a culmination of the distinctive elements found throughout the
house, creating a snug and inviting retreat. The mattress rests upon a custom-built concrete platform,
designed not only for sleeping but also for lounging and relaxation. Enclosed within a wooden
frame, the bed is nestled against an exterior wall adorned with concrete panels featuring intricate
cutouts that filter light into captivating patterns. A covered indoor balcony faces westward, serving
as a shield against harsh sunlight and maintaining a cool interior ambiance. The attached bathroom
is designed with simplicity and functionality in mind, catering to the needs of its occupants with
practical elegance.

Second Floor Plan

The second floor is a combination of recreational and private spaces. A master bedroom is provided
towards the west and a large multipurpose space is provided towards the east. This multipurpose
space doubles as a play area for the kids.

Sons’ Bedroom
The son’s bedroom mirrors the design aesthetics of the master bedroom, featuring comparable
elements such as the in-built platform and mattress for comfort and functionality. Concrete
panels positioned behind the bed serve as a striking focal point, adding character to the space.
An indoor balcony facing westward functions as a protective barrier against intense sunlight,
ensuring a comfortable atmosphere indoors. These thoughtful design elements combine to create
a harmonious and inviting sanctuary for rest and relaxation within the home.

Multipurpose Space
The multipurpose space on this floor serves as a dynamic play area for children while offering a
bird’s-eye view of the double-height spaces below, thus fostering a vertical connection between
floors. Maintaining continuity, the flooring mirrors that of other areas throughout the house.
However, what distinguishes this space is its external wall, ingeniously designed with a slant to
welcome abundant daylight and create an illusion of spaciousness. A seating arrangement along
this wall provides flexibility for gatherings and parties. Skylights positioned at the top and bottom
of the wall ensure consistent natural light throughout the day and year. Flanking the space, concrete
panels with geometric cutouts contribute to the distinctive identity of the house.

Third Floor Plan

The third floor is a completely social area. With an outdoor seating arrangement on the terrace and
an indoor bar looking out towards the terrace, this space exudes grandeur through its simplicity. A
jacuzzi isprovided towards the north west that takes this luxury forward.

Bar
On the top floor, a bar area offers a delightful view of the terrace amphitheater. Designed with
simplicity and functionality in mind, it features ample storage and seating arrangements, perfect for
hosting gatherings and parties. Consistent with the house’s vibrant theme, the space is adorned in
cheerful yellow tones, harmonizing with the overall aesthetic.

Amphitheater
The terrace area boasts a distinctive amphitheater, featuring multiple steps and levels where
people can gather and sit, fostering a lively atmosphere. This vibrant space serves as a focal point
of cheerfulness within the home, offering both children and elders a place to play and congregate
during gatherings. Emulating the grey and yellow hues of the house, the steps infuse brightness
and cheer into the surroundings. Additionally, vegetation strategically planted in various corners
enhances the ambiance, seamlessly blending outdoor elements with the interior space.
