Lesson 2

Communities are different in their Geography, Past, and Jobs.

Geography of a community means its climate, land, and water. Communities


have different geographies:

 Climate: The weather of a place over a long period of time. It can be hot or
cold, rainy or dry.

Dry Rainy Cold

 Landforms: The type of the land a community live on. If it is on a flat land, it
is called a plain. You may also live near the mountains.

Desert: A dry place almost without rain.

Bodies of water: The part of the earth's surface covered with water, such as a
river or lake or ocean.

Different Pasts. Different communities and cities are built by different


people in the past and for different reasons. Some communities are very old, but
others are new.

Different Jobs. People do different types of jobs. Some may be farmers.


Some may be workers. Some may sell goods. Some other may provide services.
Goods: things that people sell or buy. Like a bicycle or a pumpkin.

Services: works that someone does for someone else. Like what doctors, nurses,
teachers, or police officers do.

Bank: a business that keeps money safe for people.
