It can be ANYTHING that requires an audience from a traditional play to a post-dramatic work, dance, cabaret,
comedy, opera, film or whatever else you want to submit.
Consider which category is right for your idea. Do you have the time to commit to developing a feature length
work? Do you have an idea with development could be presented at a Work in Progress? You can apply for as
many categories as you’d like, but we recommend you don’t apply for more than 2 categories with the one
proposal.
We welcome students of all disciplines to apply. So, if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at the creative
industries, here’s your opportunity! Vena Cava is committed to supporting all artists in trying new things.
You MUST be available for tech and full-dress rehearsals during production week
All creatives (directors, actors, technicians, etc.) MUST be QUT students and willing to join Vena Cava 2018.
Application will be a proposal only, not a final draft (though final drafts are welcome). Performances do not need
to be scripted, blocked, or even cast yet. Your submission may not have all the logistics or technical
requirements figured out, and we get that. All we need is a strong concept that you’re passionate about and
dedicated to producing.
Afraid your concept is not what we’re looking for? Don’t be, we’re open to anything. Send us an email. The Fresh
Blood Festival is about providing a platform for all creative arts and we welcome performances of all disciplines.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY:
SUNDAY 13TH MAY.
Successful applicants will be supported by Vena Cava to develop the work during the two months lead up till the
festival. All applicants will have the opportunity to a have a production meeting with the festival team to
manage the technical and logistical aspects of the production. We will also have open callouts for individual
show crews and auditions for actors. As Vena Cava does not have access to QUT's facilities for rehearsals, we
cannot supply rehearsal spaces, however, we will maintain maximum effort and support to ensure that you've
got the place and the time to rehearse your works. This includes finding alternate spaces (i.e. Visible Ink Youth
Space), and communicating to you your best options.
The Fresh Blood Festival Co-ordinator, Olivia Williams, will also be checking in on rehearsals regularly to stay
updated on your progress. She will be your primary contact for all questions, queries and concerns.
Vena Cava will host Fusion workshops in acting, performance creation and writing during the creative process,
which we encourage you to attend. There's also Soapbox Social, an event made to test and trial ideas infront of a
supportive audience. Regular creative support can be arranged with the Olivia Williams and we are always happy
to source mentors, material and support when required.

YOU DID IT! NOW..
Keep developing your idea and prepare for the possibility of being offered a place in the festival. The production
period from acceptance to performance will be roughly 2 months – a standard industry practice but a little bit
more constricting for university students. Begin thinking about how you will use that time – start sharing your
ideas with others, start documenting your development, start mapping out your availabilities. There are so many
other opportunities this year and in the future to have your work seen – even if it isn’t a part of Fresh Blood
2018 doesn’t mean that Vena Cava doesn’t want to continue to work with you and your ideas! So get it to a
place where it can begin a production process for anything!
