UNSERSTANDING GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP: BECOMING

COSMOPOLITAN CITIZEN-ARCHITECTS

As the concept of being a global citizen has gained prominence as the world has become
more interconnected through advancements in technology, trade, travel, and communication. In
this interconnected world, borders are becoming more porous, and events in one part of the globe
citizen recognizes this interconnectedness and emphasizes the importance of collaboration,
empathy, and understanding across cultures and nations.

Global citizenship also reflects the reality that many of the most pressing challenges we
face today, such as climate change, pandemics, terrorism, and economic inequality, are global in
nature and require collective action to address effectively. Therefore, being a global citizen
involves not only recognizing our shared humanity but also actively working towards solutions
that benefit the global community as a whole.

Moreover, being a global citizen means embracing diversity and celebrating the richness
of cultures, languages, and traditions around the world. It involves fostering a sense of solidarity
with people from different backgrounds and promoting inclusivity and equality on a global scale.

Architecture as a profession suggests proactive and intentional approach to global

citizenship. Just as an architect designs and build structures, a cosmopolitan citizen architect
actively shapes and constructs a global society that reflects values of inclusivity, equity, and
sustainability.

As a future architect, I believe that I have unique opportunity to embody global

citizenship principles through my work. An opportunity to design with cultural sensitivity,
perform and embrace sustainable design practices, community engagement and empowerment, to
advocate for social equity and accessibility in my designs and using my platform as an architect
to advocate for human rights, social justice, and equality.

By integrating these principles into my work as an architect, I believe I can see myself
not only as a practitioner of my designs but also as a global citizen actively contributing to ther
creation of a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
