The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of factors of
CONTENT STANDARD: polynomials, rational algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities
in two variables, systems of linear equations and inequalities in two variables
and linear functions.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner is able to formulate real-life problems involving factors of
polynomials, rational algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities
in two variables, systems of linear equations and inequalities in two variables
and linear functions, and solve these problems accurately using a variety of
strategies.
I. OBJECTIVES:  Learn the concept of dividing rational algebraic expression
 Confidence in justifying answer orally
 Solve problems involving rational algebraic expression

A. II. Subject Matter A. Major Topic: Understanding Rational Algebraic Expression

Sub-topic: Adding Rational Algebraic Expression

B. REFERENCE: Advanced with Math 8

C. MATERIALS: Board, Textbook, Power point presentation

D. VALUES INTEGRATION: What strategy did you use in adding rational algebraic expression to make it
easier?
III. PROCEDURE: A. EXPLORE
Motivation: Intensive Review

To perform multiplication and division of rational algebraic expression,

let the students recall how to multiply and divide fractions.
o How do you multiply fractions?
2
∗9
o Given 3 , other than multiplying 2 to 9 and 3 t0 10, can you think of
10
other ways to perform multiplication?
o Is expressing fractions using common factors benefit you in multiplying
them?
o How is cancellation technique used in multiplying fractions? Is it
necessary?
o What makes multiplying fractions essential in dividing fractions?

B. FIRM UP
This process of dividing fractions works in performing division on rational
algebraic expressions.

Step 1: Change the divisor to its reciprocal and proceed to multiplication.

Step 2: factor the numerators and denominators completely whenever

possible.

Step 3: Cancel out common factors that can be found in the numerators and
denominators, or both.

Step 4: Further simplify, if possible.

Example:
4
15 x 5x
Divide 2
÷ 7
4x 8x
4 7
15 x 8 x
Step 1: 2

5⋅3 x 4 ⋅2 x
Step 2: 2

4x 5x
4 7
5⋅3 x 4 ⋅2 x
Step 3: 2

4x 5x

Step 4: 3 x 2 ⋅2 x 6=6 x 8

C. DEEPEN
