Operating Principle
In the separating element the signature bundle is transferred by the transfer belts 2A from the gatherer carrying
chain to the infeed carrier chain. The photocell 3A in front of the separating element prevents the signature
bundles from being transported into the disengaged binder with the gatherer set-up button.
Size Setting
Raceway Width
To adjust the raceway opening select the axis 1B "Raceway Set Opening" with selector key 1F. You can now set
the raceway width with the "Plus“- or "Minus" key (1D/E) based on the digital display 1A.
By pressing the function key F1 all raceway openings of the transfers as well as the separating element are
moved on the new setting.
The axis 1B "Raceway Set Opening" can only be selected when the machine is stopped!
Correction
To correct the raceway width you must select the axis 1C "Raceway Clearing/Correction" with the selector key 1F.
You can now change the raceway width with the "Plus"- or "Minus" key (1D/E) based on the digital display
1A.
After a correction of the raceway width possibly the transfer belts 2A have to be
repositioned!
Clearing
By pressing the plus key 1E for a longer time the raceway is opened a certain distance for clearing. To open the
raceway completely the plus key 1E may have to be pressed again. To close the raceway it is sufficient to press
the minus key 1D for a short time.
The clearing function is only activated when the machine is stopped.

Transfer Belts
The belt discs should be set with the handwheel 5A so they protrude approx. 4 mm (5/32") 1E from the raceway
wall 1B/D. After loosening the screws 1A/2B the belts are set parallel to the raceway wall and the screws are
tightened again.
If the product to be processed is being pressed too little or too much, adjust the transfer belts with the
handwheel.
If thick or bulky products are being processed, the transfer belts should be set conically, i.e. forming an infeed,
and with approx. 6-8 mm (¼"-5/16") distance to the raceway wall.
Troubleshooting
The raceway walls 3C can be removed after loosening knurled screws 3B (only one is visible), or after opening
the quick-connects 3A (only one visible). This facilitates removal of the products that caused the jam. The
raceway can be opened with the clearing function.

Synchronization
Move a carrier of the gatherer in jogging mode on position 1B. This position at the same time determines the
stop position during a gatherer stop. This prevents that the trailing product 1A gets into the transfer belts of the
separating element during a stop.
Advance the binder in set-up mode until a carrier of the infeed chain has reached the separation spacing 1C to
the carrier of the gatherer. Make sure that the teeth of the clutch will engage during closing.
Select the axis 2B with the selector key 2F on the operating panel. By pressing the function key F1 the clutch is
closed for a short time. The control then reads the position of the n2-shafts for synchronization.
Correction
With selector key 2F the axis 2B "Clutch Correction" is selected on the operating panel. By pressing the Plus- or
Minus- key (2/D/E) the synchronization can be corrected tooth by tooth into the respective direction. The value
displayed by the digital display 2A corresponds to the number of clutch teeth.
The correction is executed during the next synchronization
Brake Force
To achieve an optimum timed stop, adjust the brake force of the system. During an emergency stop the machine
is stopped with a fixed programmed brake force.
Brake Current
The digital display shows the brake current in %, when the display shows 0000, the brake for the timed stop is
turned off and when the display shows 0100, the clutch is activated with the maximum possible brake current.

During start-up set a low brake current. Possibly the brake current should be increased carefully.
Overload Clutch
The drive is equipped with an overload clutch 2A, which disengages the binder from the gatherer if there is an
overload on the gatherer carrier chain. The proximity switch 2B detects the fault and the fault indication displays
the respective fault number.
The remaining products in the binder are produced at production speed. After that the binder runs at minimum
speed and waits for the release signal from the gatherer.
After the fault has been corrected the clutch 2A can be reengaged by turning the hexagon 1A on the front side of
the separating element.
By pressing the green key on the operating element or on the control the gatherer is started again. After the
clutch sequence you run automatically with the production speed setting again.
Start-Up Pressure
Only if there are greatly differing jobs does the start-up pressure have to be adjusted to the production.
- Select the axis 3C "Start-Up Pressure" with the selector key 3F on the operating panel.
- Use the "Plus"- or "Minus" key (3D/E) to reduce the start-up pressure so much until the overload clutch
engages when the system is started.
- With the "Plus" key 3E increase the start-up pressure step by step until a troublefree start-up of the machine
is possible.
Operating Pressure
The operating pressure depends on the product and the processing speed and must be adjusted during each
production change.
- Engage binder and gatherer and run in production mode.
- Select the axis 3B "Operating Pressure" with the selector key 3F on the operating panel.
- With the "Minus" key 3D reduce the operating pressure until the overload clutch is engaged.
- Then increase the operating pressure with the "Plus" key 3E step by step until the machine operates
without any problems.
- To ensure that the overload clutch disengages during an overload, the clutch
torque must be set as low as possible.
