Desciption
By far my most used formula
Gets rid of any space in a cell, except for single spaces between words
These formulas return the specified number of characters from a text string.
RIGHT gives you the number of characters from the right of the text string,
LEFT gives you the number of characters from the left, and MID gives you
the specified number of characters from the middle of the word. You tell the
MID formula where to start with the start_number and then it grabs the
specified number of characters to the right of the start_number
compares two text strings and returns TRUE if both values are exactly the
same, including case, FALSE otherwise.
#VALUE!

Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla has signalled that Covishield output will be cut by half with no new purchase
orders forthcoming from GoI. In September, Centre had purchased 66 crore Covishield doses which has helped smoothly
carry India’s vaccination programme into December. To ensure that supply for at least the next four months is assured,
GoI must make another large purchase order. It took the bitter experience of the massive Covid second wave for India to
learn the importance of bulk orders and advance payments. Then GoI lost no time in April to release Rs 4,500 crore as
advance payments to SII and BB. That time, with no advance payments or bulk vaccine pre-orders and the vaccination
drive progressing at a slow pace without ambitious scaling-up targets, those GoI decisions were a much-needed
incentive for SII and BB to increase production capacity.
SII’s predicament is understandable. The long export ban allowed foreign companies to corner global market share and
current stocks cannot be quickly diverted to foreign shores. But the Indian market isn’t saturated either. Another 58
crore doses are still needed to fully vaccinate all adults. Covaxin continues to underperform leaving Covishield as the
only vaccine capable of doing the heavy lifting. The 1 crore doses of ZyCov-D that GoI has ordered pale before India’s
average daily vaccination requirement of around 80 lakh doses.
Like other countries promptly administering third doses to adults, India will also require boosters. Six months since
second dosing have elapsed for nearly 4.75 crore healthcare/frontline workers and adults over 45. Indian Medical
Association has demanded a booster dose for healthcare workers, amid concerns that immunity may have dipped given
their vaccination at the start of the drive. GoI must also consider reducing the prescribed gap between Covishield doses
to accelerate second dosing. It was originally 4-6 weeks when healthcare workers and senior citizens were prioritised for
jabs, then increased to 6-8 weeks, and is now pegged at 12-16 weeks.
With new variants constantly emerging, there is no shortcut to vaccines. Giving their makers advance indication of
supply requirements will do away with the uncertainty that a company like SII, which has admirably shouldered India’s
vaccination campaign, now faces. Meanwhile, a WHO official has flagged rising infection rates in children in Europe. GoI
must also publicise its guidance to vaccine companies on stocks to be reserved for children. This, to ensure that when
below-18 vaccination begins it is a swift process that can quickly cover children with the first dose.
