(f) The writings of women during the Modern Period touched upon the themes of inequality and gender
discrimination. Rassundari Devi, who learnt how to read in the secrecy of her kitchen, wrote an
autobiography called Amar Jiban in Bengali which was published in 1876. Writers like Kailashbashini Devi,
Pandita Ramabai and Rokeya Hossain portrayed the world of women and their experiences. Sarojini Naidu
was called the ‘Nightingale of India’ for her poetry and writing.
