DESCRIPTION
Vertical Vacuum Degasser is composed
of a series of valves with a Coriolis
metre that has been placed together
with the necessary instruments. When
using a Vertical Vacuum Degasser,
real-time mud flowability is provided,
which allows for the efficient detection
of losses and gains inside the closed
loop system. The Vertical Vacuum
Degasser is connected to the MPD
Control HMI system, which monitors
and tracks the delta flow and issues
alarms when it exceeds predetermined
limits.
INSTALLATION POSITION
According to a typical setup, the
Vertical Vacuum Degasser is located
downstream of the MPD choke, where
it
continuously checks the flow rate
of the re-entering fluid. When the
is used in conjunction with the
MPD Control HMI, the flow-out
data from the Vertical Vacuum
Degasser is delivered directly to
the pressure controller, thereby
eliminating any time-consuming
data transfers.
OPERATION
Any changes in the amount of
mud flowing into or out of the
well will be quickly detected by
the Vertical Vacuum Degasser,
which will then reflect the change
in the MPD Control HMI system
screen. The difference between
the volume flowing out of the
system and the volume
flowing in may indicate a kick, and
the difference between the volume
flowing into and out of the system
may represent losses. This deviation
serves as an early kick/loss indicator,
allowing the driller to react to the
occurrence in a timely and real-time
manner, allowing for greater
efficiency.
In the event that a backpressure
pump is employed during MPD
operations to increase the annulus
pressure, the injected drilling fluid
will cycle through the choke and

allow active kick detection when the
rig pump is turned off.
