the challenges associated with implementing environmentally sustainable practices at the local level.

2040. The Pelan Struktur Kuala Lumpur 2040 (PSKL2040) aims to
enhance economic, social, environmental, and cultural aspects of the city,
promoting sustainability and prosperity for all citizens. (Times, 2020)
PAIN POINTS / PROBLEMS 1
Insufficient Recycling Infrastructure and
Improper Waste Disposal Practices in Kuala Lumpur
How severe is the problem statement?
Poor recycling systems lead to more garbage in landfills, increased pollution, and harm to the
environment. Improper waste disposal can contaminate water and soil, causing health risks like diseases.
The long-term effects include worsening climate change and overloading the city's waste management.
Immediate action is necessary to prevent further damage and health risks. (Chen, 2021)
PAIN POINTS & PROBLEMS 2
Limited Access to Parks and Green Areas for Recreational Activities in Kuala Lumpur

Greenspace Planning and Management in Klang Valley (Sreetheran, 2024)

How severe is the problem statement?

This issue significantly affects residents' well-being. Without enough parks and green spaces, people have
fewer places for exercise, which can lead to health problems like obesity and heart disease. It also
impacts mental health, causing more stress and depression. (Mulhern, 2020) Socially, the lack of green
spaces limits community interaction and reduces the quality of life. (Li, 2019)
