Language Development
“Reading aloud strengthens parent-child bond.”

1. Reading Time Read bedtime stories with vivid illustrations

to your child. This will help in improving their listening skills,
vocabulary, imagination and prepare the child to understand
the written words.
Suggested Reading

• Peppa Pig Series • Bruno Series

• The Very Hungry Caterpillar • No David
• What the Ladybird Heard • The Magic Paintbrush
• Giraffes Can’t Dance
• Sadie The Fairy Earns Her Wings
Source : https://youtu.be/KY5IjWmeO68
• Martina The Unicorn Was Afraid Of The Dentist
Source : https://youtu.be/qN6OWa6gxXc
Try and help your child look at the
a) names on food packages
b) signs or posters in shops/ buses/trains
c) menu cards in a restaurant
d) grocery list
This will definitely help them to cultivate interest in reading.

2. Circle Time Spend some quality time with your family

every night. Discuss about one good deed that you did

that day and one that was not so good. Further, you may

discuss about some other topics

such as my favourite toy, my

favourite food, my favourite

festival, my favourite place, my

favourite person, my favourite

movie/book/character etc.

3. Rhyme Time helps kids articulate words, modulate voices and

enunciate clearly by saying them over and over again.

 Encourage your ward to listen, sing and enjoy rhymes with actions.

4. Connect and Converse Conversing in mother tongue is

always appreciable. However, encourage your child to talk in
English at home, using simple sentences.
We teachers are trying to teach the children to use simple
sentences like:
 May I come in ma’am?
 May I quench my thirst?
 May I have my lunch/fruit?
 I am not feeling well.
 Give me a pencil, please./ May I borrow a pencil.
 Please help me.
 May I go to the washroom? Etc .....

Similarly, children can be encouraged to use simple words and

sentences at home too, like:
 Mumma, please give me something to eat.
 Can I have a glass of water please?
 I am feeling sleepy.
 I am hungry.
 May I watch T.V?
 My stomach is aching.
 Papa, can we go cycling today?
 Grandpa, should I come with you for a walk?
If we teachers and parents together make a sincere effort, we
can help our children learn to understand and speak English well.

What to do?
 Pour the oil into the
bottle.
 Add 10 drops of food
colour in ¾ cup of vinegar.
 Use a measuring cup/funnel to slowly pour the vinegar mixed
with food colour into the bottle until it’s almost full. You have to
wait for a few minutes for the oil and vinegar to separate.
 Put 3-4 spoons of baking soda into the bottle. Watch it sink to
the bottom and let the blobby greatness begin!
 To keep the effect going, just add another spoon of baking soda.
For a true lava lamp effect, shine a flash light through the
