Experiment No: 05
Experiment Name: Study on the Rotor Spinning Machine
Introduction: The rotor spinning machine is the first final spinning machine to be practically fully
automated. In this system, the fibrous material is drafted and opened to the individual fiber state. An
open-end of yarn is rotated by a device called “Rotor.” Individualized fibers are collected by this open
end of the yarn. Fibers are twisted into the yarn structure to form a continuous yarn length. The spun
yarn is then wound onto a package.

Functions:
• Opening and attenuating almost to individual fibers,
• Cleaning,
• Improving evenness by back doubling,
• Forming a coherent linear strand from the individual fibers,
• Imparting strength by twisting,
• Winding.
Main Parts:
1. 6. 11.
2. 7. 12.
3. 8. 13.
4. 9. 14.
5. 10. 15.
Requirements of Raw Material (Fiber): Cotton and cotton wastes with short fiber length can be
processed very well by using the rotor spinning principle.
Targeted Yarn Count Fiber Types Fiber Length
≤ 15 Ne Cotton wastes ≤ 7/8 inches
≤ 18 Ne Short staple cotton ≤ 1 inch
≤ 35 Ne Medium staple cotton ≤ 11/8 inches
≤ 50 Ne Man-made fibers ≤ 60 mm
