“Climate change is no longer some far-off problem; it is happening here; it is happening

now.” - Barack Obama

Esteemed teachers and my dear students. A very good morning to everyone present. My name is
Joseph. Today I will be addressing an alarming issue. Climate change is real. It is happening.
Friends, I will be talking about Global Warming today. Global Warming is the gradual rise in the
earth’s temperature. We cannot blame a particular individual or a country for this cause; it is a
collective problem.

Global Warming is mainly caused due to the burning of fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels
leads to the release of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and
NO2 create a hole in the ozone layer, which allows the sun’s harmful rays to reach the earth’s
surface. The rise in the earth’s temperature will lead to catastrophic disasters.

Ill-effects of Global Warming

Greenhouse gases trap heat and light in the atmosphere, which is how the temperature increases.
So due to the increase in temperature, polar ice caps are melting. When the polar ice caps melt, it
causes an uprising of two problems. The first one is that animals that live in polar habitats, like
penguins, polar bears, seals, etc., will lose their habitat. They will not have glaciers to live in.
The second problem is that water levels will increase due to the melting of ice. Scientists say that
the water level is rising by 0.12 inches every year!

The quality of air reduces drastically. Quality of living will decrease. Due to the presence of
heat, people will be interested in using air conditioners which again contain Chlorofluorocarbons
which constitute a significant contributor to global Warming. Due to bad air quality, people will
have asthma and other breathing-related diseases.

An increase in temperature will even cause alteration in the life of marine animals. Algae and
plants in the ocean tend to die faster, which causes a disturbance in the entire food cycle.
Altogether global Warming is an alarming issue that, if addressed later, will leave no trace of life
on earth.

How to help our Planet’s Environment?

We are too late to fix this issue. What we humans have done due to our greed cannot be undone
now. But it is never too late to take a step and try to reduce the effect of global Warming. The
first and most important thing is to plant more trees. Afforestation can play a significant role in
the revival of our planet. Due to the large-scale cutting down of trees due to the increase in
population and demand, trees are reducing. Friends, did you know that a tree absorbs one ton of
carbon dioxide in its lifetime?

The next thing you could do is to create an awareness campaign in your society. People need to
be aware of the climate change around us. 1.5 degrees every year seems like a small number, but
in the long run, our future generation will have to face its consequences.
Try to use public transport as much as possible. This will reduce the number of carbon footprints
left behind. A family owns utmost two cars now. If that can be reduced to one or, if possible,
cycle to nearby locations, it will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced.

Avoid packing products with a lot of packaging. This will drastically reduce Carbon Dioxide
emissions by 10 per cent.

Switch off electronic devices when not in use. This will help us save electricity, reducing the
number of fossil fuels burnt to produce electricity.

Consider using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

Conclusion
Global Warming is more dangerous than you can ever think! The next generation will face
significant consequences. This planet might even end up inhabitable. It is our duty to return our
world to the way it was given to us. We do not have the right to alter anything on our beautiful
planet. We are already late, but we could try to reduce the effects as much as possible. Let us join
hands for a better future.

Thank you for listening.

10 points on writing Global Warming Speech

1. Global Warming is the gradual rise in Earth’s temperature.
2. The main contributors are greenhouse gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide and the
burning of fossil fuels.
3. The ozone layer will be depleted, allowing harmful sun rays to enter Earth.
4. Studies show that the average temperature increases by 1.5 degrees every year.
5. Polar ice caps are melting; water levels are rising.
6. Air quality is degrading day by day, and quality of life is decreasing.
7. The increase in temperature is a threat to the planet.
8. Afforestation is a way to restore balance on Earth. A tree will absorb 1 ton of Carbon
Dioxide in its lifetime.
9. Renewable energy sources like solar and wind should be implemented to reduce the
burning of fossil fuels.
10. We need to remember that greed is also a reason for global Warming. There is enough for
everyone in this world.
