LABORATORY ACTIVITY #1
COMMON LABORATORY APPARATUS AND GLASSWARES

In this activity, the students will be familiarized with the common laboratory
apparatus and glasswares used in the laboratory. Sketch to distinguish one from the other and
describe its use.

I. Objective: To be able to identify the common laboratory apparatus and glasswares and
describe its use.

II. Materials:

A. beaker L. watch glass

B. graduated cylinder M. aspirator
C. Erlenmeyer flask N. stirring rod
D. volumetric flask O. spatula
E. pipette P. top loading balance
F. tripod Q. crucible tong
G. wire gauze R. test tube
H. alcohol lamp S. test tube rack
I. Bunsen burner T. iron stand
J. dropper U. iron clamp
K. reagent bottle V. funnel

III. Procedures:

A. Draw the above-stated materials and label it.

B. Describe its use.

 Measurement: Graduated cylinder, Volumetric flask, Top loading balance

 Heating: Tripod, Wire gauze, Alcohol lamp, Bunsen Burner, Stirring rod,
Crucible tong, Iron stand, Iron clamp
 Container: Beaker, Erlenmeyer flask, Reagent bottle, Test tube, Test tube rack,
 Transfer of substances: Dropper, Watch glass, Aspirator, Spatula, Funnel

B. Why is there a need to be familiar with the use of laboratory apparatus?

 By becoming familiar with the laboratory you're working in and always
following proper safety procedures, you can help to prevent or eliminate hazards.
You will also know the proper steps to take in the unfortunate event that
something does go wrong

VI. Conclusions:
 In conclusion, on the activity that I have done is there are many pieces of
equipment and glassware used in the laboratory and each one of them has its
specific purpose in the lab. I can also conclude that laboratory equipment’s are
important because instead of only reading about experiments, lab equipment
enables the execution of them. You can watch things and carry out experiments
rather than taking notes.
