CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
I attended Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School, Rumuome Ozouba in Port Harcourt,
Rivers State where I obtained my Senior Secondary School Certificates, precisely West African
Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) in 2002. In 2003, I
gained admission into Niger Delta University (NDU) to study medicine and surgery. However,
in year 2007, I quit NDU to accept Rivers State Government Foreign Scholarship to study
Engineering. I obtained my Master’s degree (MSc.) in Oil and Gas Engineering from University
of Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom, while in 2012, I obtained my B.Eng. (Hons) Chemical
Services, SingTel Communications and most recently Borkir International Limited Company
four months internship with Total Energies Nigeria in Ogbogu Flow Station and Obite Gas Plant,
both in the OML 58 operations base of the company. During these 4 months period, I worked as
a process engineer intern which helped me gain first-hand knowledge of plant operations, which
includes, monitoring of the human machine interface (DCS) and maintaining process parameters
at standard set points and range, logged on process parameter from the human machine interface
and engaging in daily preventive maintenance while ensuring the operation of productive assets
After the completion of my first and second degrees, I settled for the one-year compulsory
National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in 2015 with my primary place of assignment being
Glorious God Academy, Ezi-Orsu, Imo State, Nigeria. During this one-year-compulsory national
1
service, I taught Mathematics and Geography to Senior Secondary School 1 – 3 (SSS 1 – SSS 3)
students. I developed lesson plans & notes and ensured that students were well taught and
prepared students for external examinations like the Senior Secondary School Certificate
In June 2016, I started working for a family business AHIAMADU Technical Services as Project
engineering and general services to oil and gas companies especially Total Energies Nigeria
within its OML 58 operations and host communities. As a project coordinator, I was tasked with

More so, I had to stay informed about community affairs on all project related issues and
reported to the same to the Managing Director, performing administrative tasks, supervising
subprojects and teams, and engaging stakeholders in project review meetings. In this role, it was
whilst delivering projects that has positive impacts on the host communities.
In September 2019, I joined Sterling Exploration and Energy Production Company, Lagos,
team to plan and execute project activities, achieving an excellent safety culture recognized with
consecutive HSE Champion awards for 2021 and 2022. My activities included overseeing
variance of +/- 8%, monitoring project status, enhancing stakeholder satisfaction by over 90%,

executing OEM equipment erection, expediting project completion, optimizing workflow,
More so, I managed and coordinated, completed, commissioned and handed over a
125MMSCFD C-125 Gas Processing Plant in Kwale, Delta State, Nigeria. The gas processing
plant has a plant area of 1000m x 1000m with products such as lean/residue gas, propane,
butane, LPG and C5+. It has several systems which includes, the inlet gas system, dehydration
system, cryogenic system, fractionation system, instrument air system, RO system, storage
system, and the firewater system etc. More so, in collaboration with HSE team, I promoted and
established an excellent safety culture resulting in my HSE champion award for year 2021 &

Solutions Proffered:
I reached out and informed the Lead Mechanical Project Engineer (Structural) on site to find out
the reasons for the delay of mobilization of its contractors to site. I explained the consequences
of such actions on readiness of civil foundations. More so, I inquired to know the reasons for the
delay and thereafter, reached out to finance team to facilitate mobilization payment to all
affected contractors.

I reached out and informed the Project Engineer (Structural) of the development and the
consequences of fabricating mismatched insert plates as against the Issued for Construction

grinding machine rather than cutting plates to size using oxyacetylene. However, I instructed that
if oxyacetylene is used, extra 10mm should be added to all sides of plates with actual dimensions
marked and extra 10mm removed during finishing. Both methods were tried and the required

Delay in commissioning of Nitrogen system, instrument air system and fuel gas system due to
COVID-19.
Solutions Proffered:
I reached out to my project manager and informed him of the consequences of delay in the
commissioning of these systems and its effects on the overall commissioning of the
125MMSCFD gas processing plant. Thereafter, I suggested vendors can provide online
commissioning assistance with their Nigerian partners onsite working with our process,
instrumentation, electrical, mechanical and service team handling onsite commissioning. This
suggestion was tried for the nitrogen plant, which was successful and the other systems were
subsequently commissioned.

4.1 RECOMMENDATION
Teaching engineering to undergraduates in Nigeria, requires a thoughtful and adaptable
approach to address the specific needs and challenges of the students. Here are some
recommendations:
1. Incorporate hands-on projects, case studies, and real-world examples to make the learning
2. Foster a culture of curiosity by encouraging students to ask questions and explore concepts
3. Relate theoretical concepts to practical applications. Show how engineering principles are
used in real-world scenarios, especially those relevant to Nigeria or the African context.
4. Arrange field trips or guest lectures from industry professionals to provide insights into the
