Current Affairs Related a Few Knowledge Since 2021

1) India is building a military base in Mauritius, named AGALEGA.


a) Mauritius becomes first African country with whom India signs Free Trade Agreement(FTA).
b) Mauritius is sometimes called Mini India due to overall Indian influence. A district in Singapore is also called Little
India due to the high percentage of Indians.
c) Chagos Archipelago is a disputed region between Mauritius and U.K.
2) The longest canal or artificial river in the world:- Grand Canal (connecting Beijing–Hangzhou), China; not Suez Canal.
3) Suez Canal was built between 1859 to 1869, a period of 10 years and officially opened in 1869.
a) It connects the Mediterranean Sea with Gulf of Suez/Red Sea and separates the African continent from Asia.
4) Rosaling Franklin Rover(2023) will be launched on Mars surface through a joint project of:- Roscosmos and European
Space Agency.
5) India has been invited by France to participate the naval exercise, named La Perouse, in Bay of Bengal. The Varuna
naval exercise between India and France will be observed annually as usual and in this year it will probably include
United Arab Emirates(UAE).
a) France has the largest Exclusive Economic Zone(EEZ) in the world, followed by USA and India's rank is 18th in the
list. EEZ is a region in which a country has special rights in terms of marine resource exploration and use. These
regions are adjacent and beyond a country's territorial waters and don't extend beyond 200 nautical miles(nmi)
from a nation's coast.
b) New Caledonia is an overseas territory of France.
6) France becomes 23rd member of Indian Ocean Rim Association(IORA) [Estd.- 1997; HQ- Mauritius; No of Member
Countries- 23]. The idea for IORA was formed by India and South Africa. India remains the largest contributor to the
IORA Special Fund.
7) India has ordered a huge number of MILAN 2T Anti Tank Guided Missiles(ATGM) from the state owned defence PSU
Bharat Dynamics Ltd.(BDL) and the design of the ATGM was developed by the French company MBDA. Bengaluru
based private company named Tonbo Imaging is also working on different ATGMs With Bharat Dynamics.
8) On Mars, NASA has successfully landed Perseverance rover with another helicopter drone/rover named Ingenuity
through 'Mars 2020' mission and Indian origin scientist Swati Mohan played an eminent role through the landing of the
rover. The focus of the mission is Jezero Crater on Mars.
a) Curiosity, the another rover of NASA is still operational on Mars which was launched in 2011.
b) China is going to land a rover, named Tianwen-1, on Mars in 2021.
9) Ministry Of Defence has ordered the private company Mahindra Defence to build 1300 Armoured Light Specialist
Vehicle(ALSV) at Rs.1056 Crore and another private company Kalyani Defence to build M4 armoured vehicles for
military and defence forces.
10) The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of Solid Fuel Ducted
Ramjet(SFDR) technology in Odisha. This SFDR technology has provided DRDO the technological advantage which will
enable it to develop long-range air-to-air missiles. At present only a handful of countries have the technology.
11) Mountain of gold found in Luhihi, Democratic Republic of Congo (Old Name- Zaire, Its Capital- Kinshasa) beside Lake
Kivu. Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo (Capital- Brazzaville) are two different countries.
12) India is ranked at 4th most powerful military and China is ranked at 1st in 'Ultimate Military Strength Index' by Military
Direct, a UK based company. This index is different from 'Global Firepower Index' released by Global Firepower (GFP)
since 2006.
a) According to the study, China would win by sea, USA by air and Russia by land in specific conflict, but in overall
conflict China would win the game.
b) Now, China has world's largest navy.
13) In Global Firepower Index-2021, USA is ranked at 1st position, followed by Russia, China, India, Japan and Pakistan is
ranked at 10th.
14) Quad [Quadrilateral Security Dialogue(QSD) or Asian NATO] was first time initiated by the Padmabibhushan Award
winner former PM of Japan Shinzo Abe in 2007. Quad is an Inter-governmental security forum or alliance among the 4
member countries (India, Australia, Japan, US). Quad in terms of raw military strength is arguably the strongest group
in the world, even stronger than NATO. The spirit of the Quad includes free and open Indo-Pacific besides many others.
Recently many other countries, like France, South Korea, New Zealand, Vietnam etc., are showing interest to join the
group as 'Quad Plus'. I think, Quad has been established to send an indirect message to China and to obstruct Chinese
oppressions.

a) The organization was formed in 2009 with 4 countries and 1st summit was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia. South
Africa joined it as 5th member in 2010.
19) 2022 Winter Olympics is going to be held in Beijing, China.
20) Within a coming few years, Bhupen Hazarika Bridge (or Dhola-Sadiya Bridge; Length- 9.15 KM), now the longest bridge
in India over Lohi river connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, will loss the position of longest bridge in India by a
new bridge named Dhubri(Assam)-Phulbari(Meghalaya) Bridge (Length- 19 KM) over Brahmaputra river with the
funding of Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA). A new bridge named Jorhat-Majuli Bridge (Assam; Length- 8
KM) is also going to be constructed at Rs.925 Crore.
a) Bandra-Worli Sea Link (or Rajiv Gandhi Bridge, Mumbai, Maharashtra; Length- 5.6 KM) is the longest sea bridge in
India.
b) Chenab Bridge, will be the highest railway bridge in the world, is being built in the Indian ...........
c) The longest bridge in the world:- Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge(connecting Beijing–Shanghai Railway; Length-
164.8 KM), China.
