1. The rigid beam is supported by a pin at A and wires BD and CE. If the load P on the beam
causes the end C to be displaced 20 mm downward, determine the normal strain developed
in wires CE and BD.

2. The triangular plate ABC is deformed into the shape shown by the dashed lines. If at A,
𝜀 = 0.015, 𝜖 = 0.020 and 𝛾 = 0.006 rad, determine the average normal strain along
edge BC.

3. The steel pipe is filled with concrete and subjected to a compressive force of 80 kN.
Determine the average normal stress in the concrete and the steel due to this loading. The
pipe has an outer diameter of 100 mm and an inner diameter of 80 mm. E st = 200 GPa, Ec
= 24 GPa.

4. The rigid bar is supported by the pin-connected rod CB that has a cross-sectional area of
16 mm2 and is made from 6061-T6 aluminum (Eal = 68.9 GPa). Determine the vertical
deflection of the bar at D when the distributed load is applied.
