Summary
Zero has no reciprocal.
Reciprocal of 1 is itself.
Any number multiply by its reciprocal =1
To multiply decimal numbers by 10, move the decimal point 1 place to the
right.
To multiply decimal number by 100, move the decimal point 2 place to the
right.
To multiply decimal numbers by 1000, move the decimal point 3 place to the
right.
Ratio: comparison between two quantities from the same type
The difference between fraction and ratio:
The fraction's defined as a part of a whole or part of a group. The
denominator represents the total number of equal parts the whole is divided
into. You can add or subtract two fractions and represent it on the number
line.
The ratio is a comparison of two quantities can represent part-to-part, part-
to-whole, or whole-to-part.
The ration can be written in form a: b where a is called first term, b is called
second term.
Comparison isn't ratio if it includes the words more than, fewer than, less
than
Ratios that express the same relationship between two quantities are called
equivalent ratios. Equivalent ratios have the same value.

Properties of equivalent ratios:

If you multiply (or divide] each of the two terms of a ratio by the same non-
zero number, then the resultant ratio is equivalent to the first ratio.
If [a and d are called extremes , b and care called means]

Then the product of extremes = the product of means a×d=b×c

A rate is a ratio that compares two quantities in different units of measure.
Rate language often uses the words per and for every to describe the
relationship.
The unit rate is a ratio that compares a quantity to one unit of second
quantity.
Unit rate is a rate in which the second term is 1.
Unit rate is a rate that tells how much of one quantity corresponds to 1 unit of
second quantity.
Example: 40 km per hour
When converting from large units to small units we use multiply.
When converting from small units to large units we use divide.

GRADE 6

Conversion factor is a ratio between two equal a mounts one of them is 1

expressed in different units within the same measurement system.

Percent is a ratio its second term is 100.

2×5=10, 4×25=100, 8×125=1000

To convertdecimalorfractionintopercentwemultiplyby100
Part=whole × percent
Whole=part ÷ percent
Percent=part ÷ whole
Coordinate Plane:
The coordinates of the origin are (0,0)
The vertical distance between the point
A(x,y) and the x-axis is equal to the value of
y.
The horizontal distance between the point
A(x,y) and the y-axis is equal to the value of
x.
If the y-coordinate of a point =0 then the
point (x,0) lies on the x-axis.
If the x-coordinate of a point=0 then the
point (0,y) lies on the y-axis.

GRADE 6

The axes divide the coordinate

plane into four parts called
"quadrants", first, second, third
,fourth.

Reflection

The image of the point (x,y) by reflection on X axis is (x,-y)

The image of the point (x,y) by reflection on Y axis is (-x,y)

Surface area of triangular prism = B × H + ( S1 + S2 + S3 ) × W

Surface area of square pyramid = 2 ×B × H + ( S × S )

Volume:

volume of cuboid = length ×width ×height

volume of cuboid = base area ×height
height of cuboid = volume ÷ base area
base area of cuboid = volume ÷height
If one dimension of cuboid is doubled then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is 2:1
If two dimension of cuboid is doubled then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is 4:1
If three dimension of cuboid is doubled then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is 8:1
If one dimension of cuboid is tripled, then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is 3:1
If two dimension of cuboid is tripled, then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is 9:1
If three dimension of cuboid is doubled then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is27:1
If one dimension of cuboid is divided in half, then the ration between the new
volume and the original volume is1:2
