Zambia Safety Communication Themes for 2024
General Notes:
The following needs to be included throughout 2024:
- Hazard identification
- MRTT
- Rotating themes outside of the TFDs. Example: Psychological Safety, Mental Health, Importance of Reporting Incidents, etc.

TFD of the Month Comments
TFD #4 – Mobile The festive season continues into January 2024 with some taking extended leave and
Equipment distracted by the extended festivities. The intention would be to focus on operator/driver
and passenger safety (both on and off-site) as well as highlight the dangers of alcohol and
the need to self-test before coming to work – to keep yourself and your teammates safe.
TFD #5 - Ground It’s been raining since November 2023, resulting in saturated and unstable ground
control conditions. The intention is to remind employees of the dangers, what to look out for
(Hazard ID) and what controls need to be in place to mitigate the hazards. We need to also
remind the workers of the dangers of lightning and how to be safe during a lightning
storm.
TFD #2 – Working Easter is on 30 March. This holiday period is a focus on people’s minds, so it is important to
at Height drive home the message of maintaining situational awareness and not coming to work
fatigued, and alcohol-free, etc.
We need to incorporate psychological safety, specifically with Supervisors and members of
team creating a space where everyone feels comfortable to speak up.
TDF #7 – Moving We need to focus on how to prevent hand injuries, especially around moving equipment.
Equipment We need to use worker’s reasons to Think to help workers be more aware around moving
equipment. World Safety Day is also on the 28th of April and should be incorporated where
applicable.
May 2024 Knowing the Emergency TFD #11 – Fires & Highlight the importance of knowing the emergency procedures. This will be linked to
procedure Explosions “Fires and Explosions”.
Jun 2024 Near Miss reporting TFD #6 – Hazardous Understanding chemicals and what to do when a chemical spill occurs, and you don’t have
Material the training and authorisation to handle a spill. We will also focus on the importance of
Management near miss reporting.

TFD #10 – We need to highlight what danger zones are and for workers to stay out of them. This
Explosives and needs to be linked to Explosives & Blasting.

TFD #8 – Energy Emphasise the importance of the LOTOTO process and not skipping any steps in the
Isolation process and other safety steps.
TFD #1 – Confined Highlight the dangers associated with confined space work and the importance of applying
Space critical controls. And making sure you wear your respirator correctly.

Oct 2024 Mental Health Awareness TFD #12– Human World Mental Health awareness day is on the 10th of October. We will focus on highlighting
Behaviours the stigma surrounding mental health and how it may affect your safety performance on
site.
Nov 2024 Housekeeping TFD #3 – Falling We will highlight the dangers associated with “Lifting and Cranage” and the importance of
Objects good housekeeping to prevent slip, trip and fall hazards.
Dec 2024 Hazard ID & STOP Unsafe TFD #9 – loss of The focus will be on Hazard ID and Stopping unsafe work, as well as remind workers of
Work containment how to spot hazards by doing Think Risk Assessments. This must relate to TSD #9 Loss of
Containment.
