 PREFACE

Praise be to Allah , Lord of the Worlds. Blessings and Salaams on

Prophet Muhammad , his family and his companions. We praise
Allah  and thank Him for His Countless Blessings upon us.

The title of the book, Hifz, is an Arabic word, which literally means the
memorization of any information. The meaning of the word in common
usage, refers specifically to the memorization of the Holy Qur`aan. We
have thus used it in its original meaning and it refers to the memorization
of the short Surahs from the Holy Qur`aan as well as the Du`aas for daily
use found in the Sunnah. In short, this series of books which have been
compiled for learners, includes not only all the Arabic components of
Salaah, but also various supplications required in the life of a Muslim on
a daily basis, as Allah  states in the Holy Qur`aan:

And your Lord says:

"Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)”
[Surah Ghafir (40), Verse 60]

Furthermore, the Prophet  has said: “Supplication is the essence of

worship.” (Tirmizi)

Today we find ourselves in a situation where we rapidly assimilate

knowledge, sometimes without giving due importance to its manifestation
in our day to day lives. Keeping this in mind, this series has been
compiled with the intention of instilling a love for the way of life of our
illustrious Prophet Muhammad . The salient feature of this series is that,
together with the Arabic text and the translation of each supplication, the
etiquettes and virtues as contained in The Sunnah, have also been
included. This is done with the aim of motivating the reader to act
according to the Sunnah in such a manner, that the various supplications
do not remain as mere verbal ritualistic incantations.
Another noteworthy feature, is the summarization at the end of each
Surah, which will Inshaa`Allah, prove to be invaluable in giving the reader
an insight into the message of the Holy Qur’aan.

Finally, it must be remembered that this series has been compiled with
the following objectives:-

1. The memorization and consequently the recitation of the Arabic

text with the correct Tajweed (rules of recitation) and Makhaarij
(pronunciation of the letters).

2. The understanding of the meaning and message of each Du`aa

and Surah.

3. The practical application of the different etiquettes on a daily basis.

NB: The achievement of these objectives is dependent largely upon the

educators and parents. Although this series is primarily compiled as
standard textbooks for the madaaris, its usage will be immeasurably
beneficial to all, Inshaa`Allah.

We hope that this series will enlighten many minds, inspire many hearts
and motivate readers into memorizing its contents and applying it to their
daily lives.

We humbly request our learners and readers to ask Allah  to Bless all
those who have played a role in the compilation and publication of this
series.

May Allah  grant us forgiveness, steadfastness & dedication to serve

Parents can assist their children to memorize by ensuring

2. They (parents) listen to the children’s recitation.

In Surah An-Nahl (16), Verse 98 Allah  says:

“So when you want to recite the Qur`aan, seek refuge

In Allah  from Shaytaan, the accursed one.”

From his verse we learn that the recitation of Ta`awwuz

Before reciting the Qur`aan is very important.

SURATUN NASR

1. When Allah`s Help and Victory comes.

2. And you see mankind entering the religion of Allah in crowds.

3. So celebrate the Praises of Your Lord and ask for His

Forgiveness. Verily! He is ever ready to forgive.

SUMMARY
This beautiful Surah was the last of the Surahs revealed (sent down) by
Allah . With Allah`s  Help, the Muslims conquered Makkah. Even
though Allah  gave victory to Prophet Muhammad  and the Muslims, he
() did not take revenge on the Makkans, instead he forgave them and
treated them with kindness and generosity. It was the Prophet’s  kind and
forgiving personality that brought many people into the fold of Islam. This
Surah tells us that we must thank Allah  in times of victory and praise
Him and ask Him for forgiveness.

 SURATUL LAHAB

1. Perish the two hands of the father of flame, perish he.

2. No profit to him from all his wealth and all his gains.

3. He will soon be burnt in a fire of blazing flame.

4. His wife shall carry the wood as fuel.

5. A twisted rope of palm leaf fibre round her neck.

 SURATUL FALAQ

1. Say! “I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn;

2. From the evil of what He has created;

3. And from the evil of darkness when it overspreads.

4. And from the evil of those who practice witchcrafts

when they blow in the knots;

5. And from the evil of the envious one when he

practices envy.”

 SUMMARY

Abdul Uzza, an uncle of the Holy Prophet , was nicknamed Abu Lahab
(father of flame) because of his temper and his reddish complexion. He
was a bitter enemy of Islam. When the Prophet  called together the
Quraysh and his own family to come to listen to the message of Tawhid
and the warning against their sins, Abu Lahab got very angry, cursed
the Holy Prophet  and tried to harm him. Abu Lahab died a miserable
death after the battle of Badr in Makkah.

Abu Lahabs wife Arwa assisted her husband by putting thorny

branches in the path of the Prophet .

She will also burn in the fire of Hell. Just as Arwa used a rope to tie her
bundle of wood in this world, so will she be dragged into Hell by the end
of the rope.

This fate of Abu Lahab and his wife has been recorded to last forever
in the Holy Qur’aan to show Allah's anger with them for their persecution
and disrespect to the Prophet .

In Surah An-Nisaa (4), Verse 115 Allah  says: “And whoever

contradicts and opposes the Messenger  after the right path has been
shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers way, We shall
keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil
destination!

We must show respect to Prophet Muhammad  at all times by

following his Sunnah and by sending Blessings (Durood) and Salaam
upon him abundantly.

 SUMMARY

This Surah teaches us that we should always seek protection in Allah

 alone from all types of evil.

(The recitation of) Suratul Ikhlaas and Mu`awwazatayn (Suratul Falaq

and Suratun Naas) in the morning and in the evening thrice, will be
sufficient for you from everything. (Ahmad, Tirmizi)

Hadrat `Aa’ishah narrates that when the Prophet  went to his bed,
he used to
recite Suratul Ikhlaas and Mu`awwazatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq
and An-Naas) and blow on his hands, and then pass the hands over his
face and body as far as his hands could reach. (Bukhari)

Hadrat Uqbah bin Aamir  reported that the Messenger of Allah  said,
“Do you not see the verses sent down this night, the like of which was
never seen? He (Prophet ) said:

“
‫ُق ْل َا ُع ْو ُذ ِب َر ِّ ِب ال َف َل ِق‬ (Suratul Falaq) and ‫اس‬
ِ
َّ ‫ُق ْل َا ُع ْو ُذ ب َر ِّب‬
‫الن‬ ِ ِ
(Suratun Naas)". (Muslim)

 SURAH QURAYSH

1. For the safe return of the Quraysh.

2. Their safe return in the journeys of winter and summer.

3. So let them worship the Lord of this House.

4. Who has fed them against hunger and safeguarded

them against fear.

 SUMMARY

Conditions of safety in Arabia for traders and merchants were very

poor. The Quraysh were guaranteed safety in their business travels,
because they lived near the Ka`bah. They used to travel to the south
in winter and to the north in summer with no fear of being attacked or
robbed.

However, the Quraysh were ungrateful to Allah  for their safety and
worshipped and prayed to idols. In this Surah, Allah  is reminding
them that He is the Lord of the Ka`bah and it is He Who is providing for
them and guaranteeing them their safety. Therefore they must worship
and pray to none but Allah .

One who intends to travel and is afraid of an enemy or has any fear, let
him read Surah Quraysh, for indeed it is a safety for him from every
evil. (Al Du`aa Al Mustajaab)

 SURATUL MAA`OON

1. Have you seen him who denies the Judgement (day).

2. That is he who repels the orphan,

3. And does not encourage the feeding of the poor,

4. So woe to those worshippers,

5. Who are neglectful of their prayers.

6. Those who want to be seen,

7. And refuse to give the smallest kindness/help to

others.

 SUMMARY

This Surah reminds us of the actions of the hypocrites who turns away
The orphan and the poor.

We learn from this Surah that:

1. We must perform our Salaah regularly and punctually (on time)

With sincerity. In Surah Al-Insaan (76), Verses 25 and 26 Allah
Says: “And remember the Name of your Lord every morning and
Afternoon. And during the night, prostrate yourself to Him and
Glorify Him a long night through.”

2. We must not do things for show.

3. We must help others in all good actions.

4. Allah  dislikes those who do not give help and assistance. In

Surah Al-Layl (92), Verses 5-10, Allah  says: “As for him who
gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him and
believes in the Best (i.e. Allah will compensate him for what he
spends in Allah`s way), We will make smooth for him the path of
ease (goodness). But he who is a greedy miser and thinks
himself self-sufficient and belies the Best, We will indeed make
smooth for him the path of evil.”

 KALIMAHS

IMAAN-E-MUJMAL

I believe in Allah as He is with His many Names and

Qualities and I have accepted all His Orders.

IMAAN-E-MUFASSAL

I believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books,

His Messengers, in the Day of Judgement,
and that the Power of good and bad is from (given by)
Allah, and the Life after Death.

 DU`AAS

WHEN ENTERING THE MASJID

O Allah! Open for me the doors of Your Mercy

1. Before entering the Masjid the above Du`aa should be read.

(Ibn Majah)

2. The left shoe should be removed first but the Masjid must be
Entered with the right foot. (Attargheeb, Muslim)

3. Every Salaah should be read with humility, sincerity, dedication

and devotion as if it is one`s last Salaah. (Attargheeb)

4. The rows should be straight with the Musallis standing so close

that there is no gap between two people. The ankles and
shoulders of Musallis should be in a straight line. (Bukhari,
Muslim)

 WHEN LEAVING THE MASJID

O Allah! Verily I seek from You Your bounties

1. On leaving the Masjid, step out with the left foot first and recite
the above Du`aa. (Muslim)

2. Hadrat Abu Usaid  reported that the Messenger of Allah 

said: “ When one of you enters the Masjid let him recite: `O Allah,
open for me the doors of Your Mercy’; and when one comes out
let him say: `O Allah, Verily I seek from You Your Bounties’.”
(Muslim)

 ON BECOMING ANGRY
AND
WHEN A DOG BARKS

I seek refuge in Allah, from Shaytaan,

the accursed one.

1. On becoming angry read Ta`awuz, drink water, if standing sit,

Or if sitting, lie down or move away from the place of anger. If
the anger still continues or does not cool down, then make
Wudu.

2. Remember that anger is fire from Shaytaan. Therefore, fight

Shaytaan and try as much as possible to remain calm.

3. The Prophet  said: “Verily, anger comes from the devil, and the
devil was created from the fire, and verily the fire is put out by
water. So, when any one of you gets angry, let him make
ablution.” (Abu Dawud)

4. Hadrat Salaimah-bin-Sorad  reported: “Two men abused each

other before the Prophet  while we were seated near him. One
of them abused his companion in an angry mood while his face
became red. Then the Prophet  said: `I know certainly a
formula which if he recites will remove from him what he finds of
anger’. He () recited the ‘Ta`awwuz’.” (Muslim, Bukhari)

 WHEN A FIRE BREAKS OUT

Allah is Great. Allah is Great.

Allah is Great.

Every event takes place through the Will of Allah .

Therefore, on every occasion, we must praise Allah ,
whether it be good or bad, by reciting ALLAAHU AKBAR
thrice.

 SALAAH

THIS DU`AA IS RECITED BEFORE MAKING

ONE`S NIYYAH FOR SALAAH

Verily, I turn my face towards Him, Who has created

the heavens and the earth and I am His alone (Hanif)
and I am not among those who join
partners (with Allah).

[Surah Al-An`aam (6): Verse 79]

 DUROOD IBRAHEEM

O Allah! Shower Your Blessings upon

Muhammad  and upon the family of
Muhammad  as You showered Your
Blessings upon Ibraaheem  and upon
the family of Ibraaheem . Verily, You
are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

O Allah! Shower Your Favour upon

Muhammad  and upon the family of
Muhammad  as You showered Your
Favour upon Ibraaheem  and upon the
family of Ibraaheem . Verily, You are
Praiseworthy, Glorious.

This Durood is recited after Tashahhud in the last Raka`ah of any
Salaah. N.B. It can also be recited at any other time.

This Durood is one of the best forms of sending blessings to our Holy
Prophet Muhammad 


Hadrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila  reported that once he paid a visit
to Hadrat Ka`b . Hadrat Ka`b  asked him if he should present to
him a gift which he heard from the Holy Prophet . On this, Hadrat Abdur
Rahman requested him to tell him.

Hadrat Ka`b  then said: “Once we asked the Prophet , O Apostle of

Allah! We have been taught by Allah  how to offer Salutation upon
you, but we do not know the correct way to send Blessings (Durood)
upon you and your family. The Prophet  replied: “Send in the following
manner: (and he recited Durood Ibraaheem)” (Bukhari, Muslim)

The Prophet  is reported to have said; “The closest of the people to

me on the Day of Judgement are those who are most abundant in
sending Durood upon me.” (Nasai)

 DU`AA MASOORAH

O Allah! I have done to myself a great wrong and none

except You can pardon sins; so favour me with
forgiveness from You and have Mercy on me. Surely
You are Most Forgiving and Merciful.

Hadrat Abu Bakr  reported: I asked, “O Messenger of

Allah! Teach me an invocation with which I shall supplicate
in my Salaah. He () recited the above Du`aa. (Muslim,
Bukhari)

 DU`AA AFTER SALAAM

Our Lord, give us good in this

World and good in the Hereafter,
and save us from the punishment of the Fire.

[Surah Al-Baqarah (2) Verse 201]

Hadrat Anas  reported: The invocation of the Prophet 

was: “O Allah give us good in this world and good in the
Hereafter and save us from the punishment of the Fire”.
(Muslim, Bukhari)
