Installation Bulletin
BULLETIN NO: 430

APPLICABLE TO: KFC 200 Flight Control System

SUBJECT: Revised Alignment Procedure

If a system alignment is required on a KFC 200 Flight Control System using a KI

256/KG 258 Indicator, the following alignment procedure is recommended. This
procedure will be incorporated into the applicable installation and maintenance manuals
on their next revision.

A. Connect the KC 295 Flight Computer to the KTS 150 Tester with the cables
provided. Connect the KI 256 Flight Command Indicator to the airplane harness
using a gyro extender cable. (A KI 256/KG 258 Gyro Simulator may be used in
place of the gyro in the following tests if adapter card alignment problems are
suspected.)
NOTE
When making gyro alignment adjustments, always have gyro (or gyro
simulator) set to zero in the axes not under test.
B. Mount the gyro in the gyro tilt stand. Place the tilt stand in a convenient location
with reference to the KC 295 Computer. Level the tilt stand using the twist-adjust
knobs and bubble level. Connect the gyro air input to a regulated 4.5 in. Hg.
source.
NOTE
A properly regulated and filtered air source is essential for correct gyro
operation.
C. To gain access to the adjustment pots located in the underneath side of the KC
290 Mode Controller, remove the Mode Controller from the airplane panel and
connect it to the airplane harness with the KC 290 extender cable.
D. Before applying power, make sure that the proper adapter board is installed in the
KC 295 by checking the part number in the window on top of the unit. Refer to the
system parts list for the correct number. Apply power to the system. Confirm that
all associated circuit breakers are installed and activated. Listen for the KC 295
power supply; a distinct whine should be heard.

E. Remove the KC 295 dust cover to gain access to the necessary Gyro Gain and
Zero Adjust pots.
F. Using a digital voltmeter, measure the voltage from J2952 pin b to J2952 pin L on
the KTS 150 test jacks. Adjust the KC 290 Pitch Adjust pot until the meter reads
0.0 ±0.3Vdc.
G. Measure the voltage from J2952 pin K to J2952 pin f on the KTS 150 test jacks.
Adjust the KC 290 Roll Adjust pot until the meter reads 0.0 ±0.3Vdc.
H. The gyro must be fully erected (ten minutes minimum run-up time) before
proceeding.
NOTE
It is normal for the gyro to drift during testing. To minimize error due to
drift, it is advisable to tilt the gyro and make the scale factor adjustment
quickly. After each adjustment, return the tilt stand scales to zero and,
if necessary, reset electrical zero by adjusting the leveling screws on
the gyro tilt stand.
I. Connect the digital voltmeter to the Meter test jacks on the KTS 150 test set. Set
the Meter Select switch to the GYRO position. Set the Axis Select switch to the
ROLL position. Set Gyro Select to the NORMAL position.
J. With the gyro test stand in the zero roll position, adjust the leveling screws on the
stand to obtain a roll zero visual indication on the vertical gyro (or set the simulator
to zero roll position). The meter should read 0 ± 0.05Vdc (±.25º). If the reading is
greater than 0.05Vdc, adjust R479, Gyro Roll Zero Adjust, to obtain a reading
within tolerance.
K. Tilt the gyro to a twenty-five degree right bank using the gyro tilt stand (or set the
simulator for a twenty-five degree right bank). Adjust R471, Gyro Roll Gain Adjust,
to read +5 ±0.1Vdc (±0.5º).
L. Tilt the gyro to a twenty-five degree left bank using the gyro tilt stand (or set the
simulator for a twenty-five degree left bank). The voltage should read -5 ±0.1Vdc
(±0.5º).
M. If the reading in step L exceeds -5.1Vdc, repeat step K and reduce the gain setting
by one-half the amount exceeded. If the reading measured less than -4.9Vdc,
repeat step K and increase the gain setting by one-half the amount short. Repeat
until there is a balance between left and right bank. The proper total voltage
excursion should be 10 ±0.2Vdc (±1.0º).
N. Set the Meter Select switch to the GYRO position. Set the Axis Select switch to
the PITCH position.
O. With the gyro test stand in the zero pitch position, adjust the leveling screws on
the test stand to obtain a pitch zero visual indication on the vertical gyro (horizon
line aligned with 90º index marks.) The meter should read 0 ±0.15Vdc (±0.25º). If

the reading is out of tolerance, adjust R485, Gyro Pitch Adjust, to obtain a reading
within tolerance.
P. Tilt the gyro ten degrees nose up on the tilt stand, and adjust R468, Pitch Gyro
Gain Adjust, to obtain a +6 ±0.15Vdc reading (±0.25º).
Q. Tilt the gyro ten degrees nose down on the tilt stand. The meter should read -6
±0.9Vdc (±1.5º).
R. If the meter exceeds -6.9Vdc, repeat step P and reduce the gain by one-half the
amount exceeded. If the reading is less than -5.1Vdc, repeat step P and increase
the gain setting by one-half the amount short.
This concludes the Gyro Alignment Procedure.
