Buddhism Know All About Gautam Buddha Ancient History
Origin:
• Buddhism started in India over 2,600 years ago as a way life that had a
potential of transforming a person.
• It is one of the important religions of South and South-Eastern Asian
countries.
• The religion is based upon the teachings, life experiences of its founder
Siddhartha Gautam, born in circa 563 BCE
• भारत में बौद्ध धमम की शु रुआत २,६०० साल पहले एक ऐसे जीवन के
रूप में हुई थी जजसमें एक व्यक्ति को बदलने की क्षमता थी।
• यह धमम लगभग 563 ईसा पूवम में पैदा हुए इसके सोंस्थापक जसद्धाथम गौतम
की जशक्षाओों, जीवन के अनुभवोों पर आधाररत है
• He was born into royal family of Sakya clan who ruled from Kapilvastu, in
Lumbini which is situated near the Indo-Nepal Border.
• At the age of 29, Gautama left home and rejected his life of riches and
embraced a lifestyle of asceticism, or extreme self-discipline.
• उनका जन्म शाक्य वोंश के शाही पररवार में हुआ था, जजन्ोोंने भारत-नेपाल
सीमा के पास क्तस्थत लुों जबनी में कजपलवस्तु से शासन जकया था।
• 29 वर्म की आयु में, गौतम ने घर छोड़ जदया और धन के अपने जीवन
को अस्वीकार कर जदया और तपस्या, या अत्यजधक आत्म-अनुशासन की
जीवन शैली को अपनाया।
• After 49 consecutive days of meditation, Gautama attained Bodhi
(enlightenment) under a pipal tree at Bodhgaya a village in Bihar.
• Buddha gave his first sermon in the village of Sarnath, near the city of
Benares in UP. This event is known as Dharma-Chakra-Pravartana
(turning of the wheel of law).
• उनका दे हाों त ८० वर्म की आयु में ४८३ ईसा पूवम में उत्तर प्रदे श के
कुशीनगर नामक स्थान पर हुआ था। इस घटना को महापररजनवाम ण के
नाम से जाना जाता है ।

• The main teachings of Buddhism are encapsulated in the basic concept
of four noble truths or ariya-sachchani and eightfold path or astangika
marg.
• इसे अष्ाों जगका मागम (आठ गुना पथ) का पालन करके प्राप्त जकया जा
सकता है।
• Eight Fold Paths: the path consists of various interconnected activities
related to knowledge, conduct, and meditative practices.
• Right view
• Right intention
• Right speech
• Right action
• Right livelihood
• Right mindfulness
• Right effort
• Right concentration
• Buddha also established code of conduct both for the monastic order
and the laymen to follow which are also known as the Five Precepts or
Pancasil and refrain from them.
• Violence
• stealing
• sexual misconduct
• lying or gossip
• taking intoxicating substances e.g. drugs or drink
• जहों सा
• चोरी
• यौन दु राचार
• झूठ बोलना या गपशप करना
• जशक्षाओों का पूवाम भ्यास जकया गया और पहली पररर्द में प्रमाजणत जकया
गया और 483 ईसा पूवम में तीन जपटकोों में जवभाजजत जकया गया।
• उनकी जशक्षाओों को लगभग 25 ईसा पूवम जलखा गया था। पाली में।
Three Pitakas
• The Vinaya Pitaka consists of rules of conduct and discipline applicable
to the monastic life of the monks and nuns.
• The Sutta Pitaka consists of the main teaching or Dhamma of Buddha.
• अन्य महत्वपूणम बौद्ध ग्रोंथोों में जदव्यावदान, दीपवोंश, महावोंश, जमजलोंद पन्ा
आजद शाजमल हैं ।
Vihara
Buddhist Councils
First Council
• It was held soon after the Mahaparinirvan of the Buddha, around 483 BC
under the patronage of King Ajatshatru and was presided by
Mahakasyapa, a monk.
• The council was held in the Sattapani cave at Rajgriha.
• The council was held with the purpose of preserving Buddha’s teachings
(Sutta) and rules for disciples. During this council, the teachings of
Buddha were divided into three Pitakas.
• पररर्द का आयोजन राजगृह में सट्टापानी गुफा में जकया गया था।
• यह 383 ईसा पूवम में राजा कालसोक के सोंरक्षण में जबहार के एक गाँ व
वैशाली में आयोजजत जकया गया था। इसकी अध्यक्षता सबकामी ने की।
Third Council
• It was held in 250 BC in Patliputra under the patronage of Ashoka and
was presided by Moggaliputta Tissa.
• यह 250 ईसा पूवम में अशोक के सोंरक्षण में पाटजलपुत्र में आयोजजत जकया
गया था और इसकी अध्यक्षता मोग्गलीपुत्त जतस्सा ने की थी।
Forth Council
• It was held in 72 AD at Kundalvana, Kashmir. It was presided by
Vasumitra, while Asvaghosa was his deputy under the patronage of King
Kanishka of Kushan Empire.
• Buddhism was divided into two sects namely Mahayan and Hinayan.
• यह 72 ईस्वी में कश्मीर के कुोंड्लवन में आयोजजत जकया गया था। इसकी
अध्यक्षता वसुजमत्र ने की थी, जबजक अश्वघोर् कुर्ाण साम्राज्य के राजा
कजनष्क के सोंरक्षण में उनके जड्प्टी थे।
• बौद्ध धमम महायान और हीनयान नामक दो सोंप्रदायोों में जवभाजजत था।
School of Buddhism:
Mahayana:
• It is one of the two main schools of Buddhism.
• The term Mahayana is a Sanskrit word which literally means "Great
Vehicle".
• It believes in the heavenliness of Buddha and Idol worship of Buddha
and Bodhisattvas embodying Buddha Nature.
• It originated in northern India and Kashmir and then spread east into
Central Asia, East Asia and some areas of Southeast Asia.
• Buddhist schools embedded in China, Korea, Tibet and Japan belong to
the Mahayana tradition.
• चीन, कोररया, जतब्बत और जापान में स्थाजपत बौद्ध स्कूल महायान परों परा
से सोंबोंजधत हैं ।
Hinayana
• Literally Lesser vehicle, also known as Abandoned Vehicle or Defective
vehicle. It believes in the original teaching of Buddha or Doctrine of
elders.
• It does not believe in Idol worship and tries to attain individual salvation
through self discipline and meditation.
• वस्तुतः कम वाहन, जजसे पररत्यि वाहन या दोर्पूणम वाहन के रूप में भी
जाना जाता है । यह बुद्ध की मूल जशक्षा या बड़ोों के जसद्धाों त में जवश्वास
करता है।
• यह मूजतम पूजा में जवश्वास नहीों करता है और आत्म अनुशासन और ध्यान
के माध्यम से व्यक्तिगत मोक्ष प्राप्त करने का प्रयास करता है।
Vajrayana
• Vajrayana means “The Vehicle of the Thunderbolt”, also known as
tantric Buddhism.
• This Buddhist school developed in India around 900 CE.
• It is grounded on esoteric elements and very complex set of rituals
compared with the rest of the Buddhist schools.
• वज्रयान का अथम है "वज्र का वाहन", जजसे ताों जत्रक बौद्ध धमम भी कहा जाता
है ।
• यह बौद्ध स्कूल भारत में लगभग 900 सीई में जवकजसत हुआ।
• जभक्षुओों को उनकी जशक्षाओों के प्रसार के उद्दे श्य से सोंघ में सोंगजठत जकया
गया था।
• सोंघ लोकताों जत्रक तजम पर शाजसत था और अपने सदस्योों के बीच
अनुशासन लागू करने के जलए सशि था।
• For 200 years Buddhism remained overshadowed by their Hindu
counterparts until the advent of Great Mauryan King – Ashoka.
• After the bloodbath in his Kalinga conquest, emperor Ashoka decided to
give up the policy of worldly conquest and adopted Dhamma conquest.
• Ashoka during the third Buddhist council dispatched various Buddhist
missions to different areas such as Gandhara, Kashmir, Greece, Sri
Lanka, Burma (Myanmar), Egypt, and Thailand.
• Through his missionary effort Ashoka spread Buddhism into West Asia
and Ceylon. Thus a local religious sect was transformed into a world
religion.
• महान मौयम राजा अशोक के आगमन तक 200 वर्ों तक बौद्ध धमम अपने
जहों दू समकक्षोों द्वारा छाया रहा।
• अपनी कजलों ग जवजय में रिपात के बाद सम्राट अशोक ने साोंसाररक
जवजय की नीजत को त्यागने का फैसला जकया और धम्म जवजय को
अपनाया।
• अशोक ने तीसरी बौद्ध पररर्द के दौरान जवजभन्न क्षेत्रोों जै से गाों धार, कश्मीर,
ग्रीस, श्रीलों का, बमाम (म्ाों मार), जमस्र और थाईलैं ड् में जवजभन्न बौद्ध जमशन
भेजे।
• अजहों सा की अवधारणा इसका प्रमुख योगदान था। बाद में, यह हमारे राष्र
के पोजर्त मूल्ोों में से एक बन गया।
• भारत की कला और वास्तुकला में इसका योगदान उल्लेखनीय था। साों ची,
भरहुत और गया के स्तूप वास्तुकला के अद् भुत नमूने हैं।
