Notes
● This pattern is made using continuous rounds, unless otherwise stated.
● The original baby Appa shown in this pattern uses Red Heart Hygge Fur yarn, which has
since been discontinued. I recommend Bernat Pipsqueak as an adequate replacement.
You can see this yarn type in some of the photos when I updated the pattern into 2 parts.
○ Alternatively, if you can't find Bernat Pipsqueak, Hobbii has a yarn called Teddy
that has the accurate colours needed as well. This yarn is slightly thinner than
Pipsqueak.
● To create the bobble, yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch, drawing up a loop.
yarn over, draw through two loops. Repeat until you have 7 loops on hook, and pull
through all loops.
● To create a foundation single crochet, insert hook into the same stitch as last sc, as if to
increase. Draw up a loop, and create ch. Draw through both loops on hook, and repeat. I
recommend researching this stitch beforehand if you haven't used it before. Photos are
referenced above.
● If using Bernat Pipsqueak, I found you don't need to hold 2 strands of yarn together
because Pipsqueak is thicker than the original Hygge Fur. However, if you're having
trouble making the fur portions because you can't see the stitches, I would recommend
holding the Pipsqueak with 1 strand of worsted weight yarn and working with both yarns
at once, which will make it easier to see the stitches.
○ A good way to keep track of stitches is by dividing the
number of stitches by 3 or 4, and using stitch markers to
make sure each section gets the correct number of stitches.
● Fur yarn has two sides: the right side (less fluffy; shows the defined
V shapes of each stitch), and the wrong side (very fluffy; this is
usually on the inside of regular amigurumi).
○ For this pattern, we are keeping the wrong side out for all
fluffy sections.
○ All regular pieces will be right side out.
