System Configuration 1
This Planning Guide (PG) has been prepared for the AXIOM Artis TC/dTC/TA/dTA Sys-
tem. This is comprised of:
Ceiling stand + patient table (4 different versions) + DCS
Remarks 1
• The changes to the previous version of this document are labeled by the following sym-
bol:
• A note must be made on all room plans that are created by the Planning Departments
which makes reference to the General Installation and Delivery Conditions of Siemens
Medical Engineering.
A copy of the General Installation and Delivery Conditions must accompany the plans
when they are turned over to the customer.
• For required spaces, the documents of the application fire safety regulations must be ob-
served.
• The system was developed in accordance with IEC 60 601-1.
• The system does not meet the requirements for AP classification. Use in areas where
there is an explosive atmosphere as defined by IEC 610-1, Main Section 6, is not permit-
ted.
• The AXIOM Artis OR patient table is splash-water protected (IPX4 per IEC 60 601-2-46).
• Unless otherwise specified, all dimensions are given in mm.
Definition of Terms 1
• Orientation points
Points specific to system components to which reference is made when positioning sys-
tem components to each other or in the room.
The isocenter of a radiographic system is always illustrated as the orientation point.
Illustration in the drawings:
• Fixpoints
Clearly marked points on system components, installation ceiling, walls or floor on which
cable outlets are located.
Illustration in the drawings: circle with letter/number combination.
Example: PU1
The cable lengths establish the maximum fixpoint distances and thus the maximum dis-
tances between the individual system components.
• Room height
The room height is the distance measured from the top surface of the finished floor to the
bottom surface of the ceiling structural elements (Unistrut rails) (bottom surface of drop
ceiling).

Room height:
2700 - 2740 mm
(see Page 2 - 7)
• Plan the control room at the foot-end of the patient table (optimum visual contact to the
examination room).
• Plan the radiation protection window in terms of size and position so that the examina-
tion room can be clearly viewed from the control room.
• According to DIN 6868-57 (international standard in preparation), lighting in rooms in
which diagnosis is made on image playback/display devices (monitors) must meet the
following requirements:
- Adjustable, no-glare screens, reproducible adjustment of luminous intensity (e.g. dim-
mer with a scale).
- No glare or reflection from windows, lights and light boxes in the vicinity in which the
monitors are normally used.
• Plan the entrance area as illustrated.
• Plan the equipment room to the left of the examination room.
• If at all possible, do not plan the generator and cooling unit within the examination room
(because of generation of noise and heat).
• OR patient table (option)
When the OR table is used for surgical applications, an on-site UPS should be planned.
For further information, see Page 2 - 8.

finished floor (incl. floor covering) to the lowest point of the ceiling substructure.
Here, the area of the ceiling substructure in which the longitudinal rails for the
ceiling stand are installed is the determining factor.
Recommended room height: 2710 mm
*2 The cross-hatched area is determined by the movement range of the ceiling
stand C-Arm.
Max. adm. floor unevenness in the shaded area: 8 mm
Patient Table 2
Versions 2
There are 4 different versions of the AXIOM Artis patient table that can be shipped:
1. Basic table
2. Peri table (same as the basic table, but also with motorized longitudinal move-
ment of the tabletop)
3. Tilting table (same as the Peri table, but also with a tilting function in the longitudi-
nal direction)
4. OR table (same as the tilting table, but also with the tilting function in the trans-
verse direction)
The AXIOM Artis patient tables all have the same external dimensions.
• An additional control cabinet (SC2) is shipped along with the OR table. For the most part,
the cabinet contains the motor controller. Unlike with the other AXIOM Artis patient ta-
bles, the motor controller cannot be installed in the table base because the tilt and cant
functions would have limited movement.
• The OR table is splash-water protected (IPX4 per IEC 60 601-2-46).
• Use in the OR environment
If the table is used for surgical applications, it must still be possible to use the table even
if there is a power failure, as defined by IEC 60 601-2-46. In this case, the SC1 system
control cabinet must be connected to an on-site, uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
Since all system components, with the exception of the generator, are supplied with
power via the system control cabinet, the units, the image system, etc. must still be oper-
ational if there is a power failure.
For detailed information about the UPS, see AXIOM Artis Emergency Power Supply PG,

Generator (PU1), system control cabinets (SC1/SC2) and cooling unit (CU1) located in equip-
ment room (due to generation of noise and heat).
• Recommendation 2:
Generators (PU1) and system control cabinets (SC1/SC2) located in the examination room,
cooling unit (CU1) located in the equipment room.
Caution: Take note of noise and heat generated by the generators (PU1)!
• Image system (IS):
is regularly positioned within the control room (as standard). Its optional positioning in the equip-
ment room is possible only if this was explicitly indicated to Logistics already in the time of order.
• Observe the heat dissipation data and temperature ranges of the cabinets and components (see
Chapter 5). If necessary, air condition the equipment room.
• Systems with flat panel detector: the max. admissible height difference between the detector
and the SC1 control cabinet is 10 m.
• The cabinets can be set up as illustrated. Take note of the following:
- The cabinets can be set up separated from each other or corner-to-corner only at the places
marked with arrows. When this is done, take note of the cable list on Page 4 - 2.
- If set up is corner-to-corner, maintain at least 40 mm space to the next cabinet (needed to
open the cabinet doors).
- PU1 and cable cabinet can also be positioned to the right of the SC1/SC2.
- For additional information, see Page 7 - 1 to Page 7 - 3.
• Cable cabinet (option)
- The cable cabinet is required if the excess cable lengths can not be stored in some other man-
ner (e.g. under computer flooring). It has the same dimensions as the generator cabinet. Ca-
ble lead-in is possible from the top left/right (see Page 4 - 9), into the cabinet base from below,
and from all sides (except the front).
- If a cable cabinet is required, please mark this on the checklist that is sent from Logistics. The
cable cabinet is provided at no charge.

Any existing modality
Remote diagnostics and "Pro-active Event Management" require remote LAN access to
our systems. A router is required for this which we provide to our customers at no charge
during the warranty period and beyond that period if a service contract is concluded.
The router remains the property of Siemens AG. The required telephone connection (pref-
erably ISDN) and the power supply must be provided on site. Even if several Siemens sys-
tems are connected to the same data net, only a single central router is required.
Of course, we observe the confidentiality of patient data in the framework of remote diag-
nostics and have provided security against access to it. Further information on the topic of
data security can be found in the system-specific publications.

*1 If needed, a switch for radiation blocking can be installed in series with the door
contact:
- The switch (24 VDC / 20 mA) must be provided by customer’s contractor.
- Control is +24 V from the system control cabinet.
- Plan in the switch so that unintentional operation is not possible.
- The switch must be provided with an appropriate symbol (or label) so that its
function is easily recognizable.
*2 If the current load of 2 A is insufficient, an external power relay must be planned,
over which the room light can be switched.
*3 The signal "emergency power ON" disables/interlocks the radiography mode;
thereafter only the emergency fluoroscopy mode remains enabled.
*4 With systems shipped prior to 6/2005, the K4/K5 relay must be provided on site.
Control of the relay is made with 24 V DC (max. 0.2 A). A free-wheeling diode
must be circuited over the relay coil.

Laying Cables 4
Remarks:
• Lay cables / wiring harnesses separately in pipes or in enclosed cable conduits.
• If cables are laid in open cable conduits, separate cables using metal spacer plates or a
similar method.
• The depth of the cable conduit should be at least 70 mm; if there are intersections, plan a
greater depth.
For all cable conduit / pipe sections, calculate the sum of the cross sections of all cables/
wiring harnesses. The individual cross sections of the cables/wiring harnesses can be
found in the cable list. The required fill factors are already included in this.
If excess cable lengths are to be stored inside cable conduits, this fact must be taken into
account when calculating the size.

Work counter
Make the opening in the work counter to fit the configured control modules, and if
applicable, the ECC:
- Table control module (TCM)
- Ceiling stand control module (SCM)
- Collimator control module (CCM)
- ECC
The ECC can also be installed in a different location, independent of the control
modules. Unlike the control modules, the ECC is also suitable for free setup, i.e.,
it does not have to be recessed into the tabletop.
The data display unit can be positioned either on a console provided on-site, or it can be
attached to the wall.
