TOPICS COVERED- POSITION-TIME GRAPH, VELOCITY- TIME/ SPEED-TIME GRAPH
1. The distance-time graph shows the journey of Rohan from his home.
a) How far is he from his home after 1hour and 30minutes?
b) With what speed does he return back?
c) For what time interval/intervals do Rohan remain at rest?
d) What was the speed of Rohan during OA, BC intervals?
e) With what average speed does Rohan complete his journey?

2. A car starts from home and travels at a constant speed for 30 minutes until it is 20 km from home.
It then stops for 1 hour, then car returns back home travelling at a constant speed for 45 minutes.
Draw a distance-time graph to represent the journey of this car.
3. A scooter leaves home at 12:00 pm and sets off at a constant speed of 30 kmph. At 12:30 the car
stops for 10 minutes. It then returns home at a speed of 45 kmph.
4. Study the speed-time graph of a body shown in below figure and answer the following
questions:
a) What type of motion is represented by OA?
b) What type of motion is represented by AB?
c) What type of motion is represented by BC?
d) Calculate the acceleration of the body.
e) Calculate the retardation of the body.
f) Calculate the distances travelled by the body from A to B, O to A and B to C
g) Find the total distance travelled by the body in 16 sec.

5. A car is moving on a straight road with uniform acceleration. The following table gives the
speed of the car at various instants of time: Draw the speed time graph choosing a convenient
scale
Determine:
a) The acceleration of the car
b) The distance travelled by the car in 50 sec.
6. The graph given below is the velocity-time graph for a moving body.
Find:
a) The velocity of the body at point C.
b) The acceleration acting on the body between A and B.
c) The acceleration acting on the body between B and C.
d) Calculate the distance covered by a body between 3:00 h- 8:00 h.

7. The distance- time graph of two bodies A and B are shown in Figure. Observer the graph carefully
and answer the following questions:
a) Do both the bodies start from the same position?
b) Do they have uniform speed?
c) Does anybody have acceleration?
d) What is the speed of A?
e) What is the speed of B?
f) Without actual calculation, can you infer which body is travelling faster?

8. The velocity time graphs of two bodies A and B are shown in Figure. Observe these graphs
carefully and answer the following questions:

b) What do you infer from the slopes of the graphs?
c) What are the initial velocities of A and B?
d) What is acceleration of A?
e) What is acceleration of B?
f) What distance is travelled by B before coming to rest?
g) At what time will the two bodies have equal velocity?

9. The position-time graphs of two objects A and B in three different situations for a particular
duration are shown as below:

a) In which situation the distance between them will remain same?

b) In which situation they are moving in opposite directions?
c) Is the velocity of object A positive or negative in situation?
d) Are they crossing each other in any situation (s)? If so, why?
e) Draw appropriate v-t graphs for the above cases.
