WEEKS 1 & 2: The workshop and tools

Your teacher will give you two items:

A fish marked out on paper A rectangular piece of plywood

After you’ve finished cutting out your fish, complete the table below:

Topic Write one thing point about how the coping saw related to the topic on
the left.

The thickness of the blade of the coping saw.

The way in which the blade can be adjusted.

The handle of the coping saw.

The way you should hold the coping saw when sawing.
WEEKS 3 & 4: Developing your designs
Your teacher will give you copies of the
animals shown on the right hand side of
this page.

Cut out the animals and join them using


the slots.
WEEKS 3 & 4: Developing your designs
Create 3x designs for your own animals. Your teacher will take you
through a few examples:

● Your animals should be joined using slots, not glue.

● Your models should resemble animals you would expect to find in a rainforest.

● Ensure your animal is drawn using realistic proportions.

● You do not need to add colour at this stage.

● These ideas will be your Initial Ideas.

● Some basic examples are on the next two pages.

Choose your best or favorite idea for further development.

● What could be improved from your initial idea?

● Are there any areas of weakness that you could improve upon?

● Test your model using cardboard and paper. Use the outcome of your tests
to continually update your idea.

● At this stage, you will need to produce high quality drawings, with slots
clearly marked out.
WEEKS 3 & 4: Developing your designs

Add pictures that show the development process.


WEEKS 5 & 6: Manufacturing your model.
Now you will take your final idea, make a template and mark out onto
plywood.

● Make more than 1 copy of your template.

● Your final idea can be improved/changed at any point. This is a continuous


process.

● Remove plywood in sections so as to avoid the chances of it breaking.
