*If readings are below 12,000 (scale unit 1.0), use 10.0 ltr/ton and retest. If *If readings are below 8,000 (scale unit 1.0), use 5.0 ltr/ton and retest. If system
system has been partially drained and refilled, use initial dosage. has been partially drained and refilled, use initial dosage.

The use of high quality distilled makeup water is recommended as the best means of
controlling scale formation.

REFERENCE TESTS FOR MAKEUP WATER CONTAMINANTS

Use any one of the following parameters as an indicator of makeup water contamination.

Parameter Limit

*Conductivity 500 µS/cm maximum

*Chloride-Use Sample Pretreatment Procedure at the right 100 ppm maximum
*Hardness 170 ppm maximum

*If any parameter is higher than the maximum, use better quality water.

CHLORIDE SAMPLE PRETREATMENT

Apparatus and Reagents
Chloride LMP Test Kit PCN 0373-01-9
Sample Pretreatment, 5 gm PCN 0374-01-7
(includes 0.5 gm scoop)
Filter Paper, Box of 100 PCN 0225-01-2
Funnel, Plastic PCN 0221-01-0
Stirring Rod, Plastic, 150mm PCN 0417-01-5

Procedure
1. Add one scoop (0.5 gm) Sample Pretreatment to approximately 70 ml cooling water and
stir well.
2. Let stand for two (2) minutes to allow precipitate to settle.
3. Filter the sample and proceed with the chloride determination using the Chloride LMP
Test Kit.
