ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

S.
Question COs BLs Marks
No.
1. Explain the necessity of shear reinforcement in a beam. CO2 L2 2M
2. List the specifications for the minimum spacing of stirrups in beams as CO2 L1 2M
per IS 456.
3. Explain different criteria for shear design as per IS 456. CO2 L2 2M
4. Illustrate with the help of a diagram, the load resisting mechanism of CO2 L2 2M
beam resist the applied loads.
5. Illustrate with sketches, the locations of flexural cracks and shear CO2 L2 2M
cracks formations in beams under transverse loading.
6. Compare between short-term deflection and long-term deflection. CO2 L2 5M
7. Design the shear reinforcement needed for a shear force of 200 kN on CO2 L3 5M
a beam having effective depth of 450 mm and a breadth of 300 mm
which is reinforced with 4-20 mm diameter bars. Use M20 grade of
concrete and Fe415 grade of steel.
8. A concrete beam has cross-section of 350mm x 600mm and is CO2 L3 5M
subjected to the following design moments and forces: Bending
Moment of 115kNm, Shear Force of 95kN and Torsional Moment of
45kNm. Determine the equivalent bending moment and shear force
for which section is to be designed. The beam is exposed to mild
environmental condition.
9. Design the reinforcement required for a ring beam of 400 x 600mm CO2 L4 10M
subjected to a bending moment of 250kN-m, torsional moment of
100kN-m and shear force of 150kN. Use M25 and Fe415. The beam is
exposed to severe environmental condition.
