1.0 INTRODUCTION

M/s Aditi Pvt, Ltd, entrusted us the Geotechnical investigation work to M/s Vinyas
Laboratory, Chitradurga, for the Proposed Construction Greenko Solar Power Plant, Palavalli
Village,in Pavagada Taluk, Tumkur District, Karnataka. The purpose of this investigation is
to determine the surface conditions, subsurface conditions, groundwater table levels and to
collect representative soil samples for laboratory testing. Based on this field and laboratory
test results, the properties of soil available at site are determined. The actual field test data
and laboratory test results, along with the conclusions, are presented in this report.

2.0 RELAVENT DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AREA

2.1 General Information about Project site

The present project is the Proposed Construction Greenko Solar Power Plant, Palavalli
Village, In Pavagada Taluk, Tumkur District, Karnataka

2.2 Field Investigation

The field work for the geotechnical investigation were carried out from 20th September 2023.
The scope of work for the current geotechnical investigation work is as follows.

 Collecting disturbed soil sample at one locations for evaluating safe bearing capacity.

2.3 Collection of Soil sample

Trial pits are the most commonly adopted technique for soil investigation. Trial pits provide
visual examination of soil and facilitate the easy collection of undisturbed samples. The
standard procedures for soil investigation using trial pits is laid in IS:1892-1979.

The task of geotechnical investigation using trial pits requires excavation to be made till the
depth of study using any excavation tools. The edges of the trial pits are cleared and the
undisturbed samples are collected using a core cutter. Disturbed samples are also collected
for the analysis of the soil.

Trial pits of size 1.50m x 1.50m are dig upto the required depth. The disturbed/undisturbed
soil samples are collected. The soil collected is analysed at the laboratory.

3.0 LABORATORY TESTING

The laboratory testing was performed in the laboratory on selected soil samples obtained
during the fieldwork. The laboratory testing has been performed as per the relevant parts of
IS 2720. The tests results were used to classify the soils and determine the strength properties
of soil/rock. The details of the test conducted is as follows.

1. Water content : IS 2720 part 2

2. Grain Size Analysis: IS 2720 part 4

3. Liquid and Plastic Limit: IS 2720 part 5

4. Shear strength parameters: IS 2720 part 15

The summary of Laboratory tests of the soil samples are presented in Annexure 1.

4.0 GROUND WATER TABLE

At the time of investigations, subsequent to completion of trial pits, water table was not found
up to 1.5 m depth from existence ground level; however, point to be noted is that, water level
is invariably subjected to seasonal fluctuations

5.0 SUBSURFACE PROFILE

Based on the field and laboratory test results, the general subsurface profile encountered in
the boreholes is has given below.

Table. 1. General subsurface profile of various boreholes

Trial Pit No Depth in m General description of Soil

From To
01 0.0 1.6 Brown Sandy soil
1.6 2.0 Brown Gravelly Soil

6.0 ENGINEERING ANALYSIS

Based on the subsurface conditions revealed from the field investigation and laboratory test
results, engineering analysis and previous practical experience in the area with the soil and
rock materials encountered, and in general, taking into consideration the nature and type of
loads that the proposed development of structures will transmit to the underlying soil/rock
layers, it is concluded that proposed structure is for commercial purpose, the design should be
considering the loads from structure, soil stratification, net safe bearing capacity soil,
permissible settlement etc., shall be consider before arriving at the final size and depth
foundations

6.1 Observed Sub-Soil Profile

The field investigation was performed by open trial pit at one location and the
following were observed

1. The subsoil essentially comprises of sandy and gravel type of soil was encountered
as shown in table 1.

7.0 CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the results of geotechnical investigation, for the proposed construction of solar plant
facility the allowable bearing pressure on founding strata depends on stratification, loads
coming on the foundation, permissible settlement, type of structure, etc,. The recommended
net safe bearing capacity of under laying soil strata is taken based on soil shear criteria is
shown in Table 2. The calculations of net safe bearing capacity of under laying soil strata is
shown in ANNEXURE 2. The overall net safe bearing capacity of soil is 201.00 kN/m2 at
2.0m depth from EGL.

PRECAUTIONS

7.1 All depth of foundations is given with respect to top of existing ground level. If
any site leveling and grading takes place, it is important that foundation trenches in
areas of “fill"(if any) be taken to the specified depth below the top of existing ground
level.

7.2 The columns should be tied with R.C.C beam at plinth level.

7.3 The bottom of foundation shall be properly leveled and verified for loose
pockets/weaker zones and if found, the same shall be replaced with lean concrete.

Note 1: During excavations, in case any variation is noticed in the strata /

seepage water, same shall be brought to the notice of geotechnical engineer for
review of net SBC recommended.

Note 2: All the structures shall be found on the natural ground only. The above
said SBC are indicative and represents virgin soil strata only.

8.0 REPORT LIMITATIONS

The depicted subsurface conditions of this site are solely based on the pits excavated which
are specific to their locations and provide information about a relatively small column of the
soils and rock and the possibility of actual conditions.
