CHEMISTRY WORKSHEET
1: Write the balanced chemical equations for each of the following reactions.
a) Liquid hydrogen peroxide decomposes to form water and oxygen gas.
b) Acetylene(C2H2) gas burns in oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water along with
evolution of heat.
c) When solid mercury(II) oxide is heated, liquid mercury and oxygen gas are produced.
d) Marble dissolves in a hydrochloric acid to give calcium chloride, water and carbon
dioxide.
2-: Which of the following displacement reactions will not take place?
a) Zn(s) + FeSO4(aq) → ZnSO4(aq) + Fe(s)
b) Fe(s) + CuSO4(aq) → FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)
c) Cu(s) + 2AgNO3(aq) → Cu(NO3)2(aq)+ 2Ag(s)
d) Cu(s) + FeSO4(aq) → CuSO4(aq) + Fe(s)
3. What is rancidity? List two methods for preventing rancidity.
4. Why is it rusting faster in the rainy season?
5: Why do silver articles turn black in the air?
6: Why does copper get coated with a green layer?
7: Aluminum oxide is formed as a result of the attack of moist air on aluminium. How is this
attack beneficial?
CASE BASED QUESTIONS
8. Decomposition reaction refers to breakdown of a compound by passing current, heat or
exposing it to light. Decomposition reaction refers to the breakdown of compounds into two
or more of its constituents. In general, the decomposition reaction can be represented by AB
→ A + B. Not all decomposition reactions are redox reactions. The opposite of
decomposition is synthesis, where a new compound is formed by the reaction of two or more
reactants. The decomposition reaction requires energy in the form of heat, electricity or light
to break the bonds.
Here are few questions, based on it:
A. Decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to give H2 O + O2 is an example of
(a) reduction (b) oxidation (c) both (a) and (b) (d) none of the above
B. The reaction 2Pb(NO3)2 → 2PbO + 4NO2 + O2 is a type of _______reaction.
(a) Displacement (b) double decomposition (c) decomposition (d) none of the above
C. On passing current to acidified water we get hydrogen and oxygen. This is a type of
(a) Oxidation reaction (b) thermal decomposition (c) electrolysis (d) none of the above
9. We have often seen that some substances when mixed form new substances. Like if we
want to make tea, we add sugar, tea, milk and water. On heating, it turns into tea. Likewise, if
you add a spoon of curd to lukewarm milk and keep it aside for few hours, then the whole
milk turns into curd. We conclude that they thoroughly mix with each other and form a new
substance. This thorough mixing is a chemical reaction.
Here are few questions, based on it:
1. Magnesium ribbon is rubbed before burning because it has a coating of
(a) basic magnesium oxide (b) basic magnesium carbonate (c) basic magnesium sulphide (d)
basic magnesium chloride
2. The red metal on exposure to air turns black, Identify:
(a) Co (b) Pb (c) Cu (d) Li
3. When green coloured ferrous sulphate crystals are heated, the color of the crystal changes
because
(a) it is decomposed to ferric oxide (b) it loses water of crystallization
(c) it forms SO2 (d) it forms SO3
4. A dilute ferrous sulphate solution was gradually added to the beaker containing acidified
permanganate solution. The light purple color of the solution fades and finally disappears.
Which of the following is the correct explanation for the observation?
(a) KMnO4 is an oxidising agent, it oxidizes FeSO4.
(b) FeSO4 acts as an oxidising agent and oxidizes KMNO4.
(c) The color disappears due to dilution; no reaction is involved.
(d) KMnO4 is an unstable compound and de-composes in presence of FeSO4. to a colorless
compound.
5. Pb + CuCl2 → PbCl2 + Cu
The above reaction is an example of:
(a) combination (b) double displacement (c) decomposition (d) displacement
10. What change in color is observed when silver chloride is left exposed to sunlight? Also
mention the type of chemical reaction.
11. Define a combination reaction. Give one example of an exothermic combination reaction.
12. What is observed when a solution of potassium iodide is added to lead nitrate solution?
What type of reaction is this? Write a balanced chemical equation for this reaction.
13. Distinguish between an exothermic and an endothermic reaction.
Why is respiration considered as exothermic process?
PHYSICS
WORKSHEET
CHAPTER - 9 LIGHT (REFLECTION)
1. The laws of reflection hold true for
(a) plane mirrors only
(b) concave mirrors only
(c) convex mirrors only
(d) all reflecting surface
12. The image of an object formed by a mirror is real, inverted and is of magnification -1. If
the image is at a distance of 40 cm from the mirror, where is the object placed? Where would
the image be if the object is moved 20 cm towards the mirror? State reason and also draw ray
diagram for the new position of the object to justify your answer.
13. A ray of light incident on a rectangular glass slab immersed in any medium emerges
parallel to itself.” Draw labelled ray diagram to justify the statement”.
14.List the new Cartesian sign convention for reflection of light by spherical mirrors. Draw a
diagram and apply these conventions for calculating the focal length and nature of a spherical
mirror which forms a 1/3 times magnified virtual image of an object placed 18 cm in front of
it.
15. Draw the corresponding normal lines and reflected rays of the incident rays shown in the
diagrams below.

PORTFOLIO
INTRODUCTION:
In recent decades, people have become more concerned with their environment. Part of
concern revolves around pollution, but part has to do with the depletion of natural resources.
According to the Government of Punjab, the council of ministers decided to establish a
corpus Fund titled "Greening Punjab Fund" for mission Greening Punjab.
Homework
Dear students,
You have to build up a Portfolio after going through Chapter- Management of Natural
resources and weigh up the following points:
INSTRUCTIONS
Page 1 Name, Class & Section, Topic
Page 2 Acknowledgement
Page 3 Content of Portfolio (Pg-3 to Pg 5)
Page 5 Bibliography
✔ Use loose sheets, one side plain and the other side ruled.
✔ Paste the related pictures or draw the diagrams wherever necessary.
✔ Give proper heading with relevant points.
✔ Use a hard cover file with tags and cover it properly.
✔ DO NOT use a plastic report/stick file.
