At Bauma 2007, LST presents the
new generation of hydraulic bre-
akers of the XB/iS range. The new
range is even more powerful, even
quieter and even more robust,
having already been in successful
service with several reference
customers of LST prior to BAUMA.
The following report describes the
development of the breakers:
Since its introduction in the year
1967, the hydraulic breaker has
revolutionised working methods
in the construction and demoliti-
on business. This first hydraulic
excavator attachment was initially
anything but technically mature. Yet
the need for a powerful attachment
ultimately led to the success of this
device, which today has been sold in
the hundreds of thousands.
The development therefore pro-
gressed quickly: the sealed ni-
trogen accumulator resulted in
reduced maintenance times, while
the sealed housings protected the
internal components better against
external effects, and with improved
stroke control and production me-
thods, productivity in the demolition
business increased significantly
with every new breaker generation.
The development concentrated on
low vibration levels and soundproo-
fing. Redesigned housings were
able to reduce vibrations on the
carrier and the stress on the driver.
And with the acoustic damping, hy-
draulic breakers were also able to
be used in inner cities. Ever larger
and heavier breakers came onto the
market. And finally the »intelligent
impact system« was introduced,
with fully-automatic adjustment
of striking rate and striking force.
This represented the high point of
the development. Since then, indi-
vidual manufacturers have made
improvements mainly in the area
of extended functionality, such as
lubrication or housing design.
Today the performance of hydraulic
breakers is even greater, and the
number of brands has become al-
most impossible to grasp. Almost
every development stage in the his-
tory of the hydraulic breakers has
remained unchanged to the present
day. The customer himself has to
decide which development stage of
the technology he prefers, and con-
sequently what level of productivity
he needs and what ease of mainte-
nance is necessary in the medium
and long term. The customer also
has to decide what value he places
on service and advice, since hydrau-

lic breakers are highly sensitive
pieces of equipment, which can only
deliver their full productivity with
perfect adjustment in relation to
the carrier.
In times of tight working schedules
and high contractual penalties,
even a »simple« hydraulic bre-
aker failure can be as serious
as a super »most serious pos-
sible accident«. Work on the
construction site is often in-
terrupted at a critical point,
and several excavators,
wheel-loaders and trucks
have to be left standing
idle. For this reason, the
down-times of hydraulic
breakers and thus the
construction site have
to be minimised as
far as possible.
New technolo-
gy is continually
being introduced to
this end, such as
automatic lubricati- o n
systems and hydraulic quick-
coupling systems.
Over the years, only very few brea-
ker manufacturers have been able
to combine all these improvements
into a cohesive overall concept. Ho-
wever, the importance of a balanced
hydraulic breaker system with high
productivity and ease of mainte-
nance can be shown by one example
from Switzerland:
 The »Rie-
deralp« is one
of the best-known
excursion destina-
tions in Switzerland,
both in winter and summer.
The view from the Aletsch gla-
cier to the Matterhorn, sweeping
ski slopes and Europe’s highest golf
course have made the area into a
tourist magnet of Switzerland. The
»Aletsch Riederalp Bahnen Betrie-
be« therefore decided to install 30
new, fully automatic snow-making
machines supplied by »Tiroler
TechnoAlpin«. The machines, which
would be completely supplied from
the valley, had to be positioned at
accurately surveyed points at an
altitude of approx. 2,500 m. The
contract went to GomBau AG, one
of the most experienced compa-
nies in the field of special mountain
construction.
The requirements were complex:
the CAT 320C had to be able to work
completely independently. The
positions could only be reached by
piste bullys. In order to ensure on-
time completion, there would be no
time for failures – every delay could
have put the whole project at risk.
After only a few hours of operati-
on, the breaker used was severely
damaged, and no spare parts were
available. GomBau had to obtain a
new and reliable hydraulic breaker
– and quickly.
The battle for this prestige project
was won by the Swiss general im-
porter of LST, the firm of Z+B Imfeld
from Sarnen, with the 2000 kg XB
2100/iS series breaker. Because
only the »intelligent impact system«
offered any prospect of recouping
the lost time by means of its signifi-
cantly higher performance.

transported to the construction site
using a special vehicle, the breaker
was set up and released for use
within the shortest possible time by
the technicians of LST and Avesco.
After only a short time, the excava-
tor driver was once again confident
of being able to meet the schedule,
thanks to the higher productivity
of the LST hydraulic breaker. And
in September came the result: The
breaker had done it – the project
was successfully completed on
time.
This example shows that today, a
hydraulic breaker needs precision
manufacturing and intelligent de-
sign. Only a breaker design which
is optimised for low down-times and
maximum productivity can generate
valuable time benefits in applica-
tions of this type. Parts subject to
wear must be fully protected, and
must be able to be replaced quickly
when necessary. For instance, the
chuck housing of the XB range can
be replaced on-site. Wear plates

ensure that no time-consuming
repairs are necessary. Because es-
pecially on construction sites such
as this, return to the workshop and
slow spare parts supply would have
been a scheduling catastrophe.
Together with other wear-reducing
measures such as specially desi-
gned retaining wedges for the tool
or vibration-insulated tie rods, the
down-times are reduced signifi-
cantly. A dual damping system iso-
lates the impact unit from the hou-
sing, thereby protecting the breaker
and the carrier against dangerous
reverse impacts, because the exca-
vator must also be protected.
Today, hydraulic breakers are also
used in tunnel construction, reno-
vation of harbour facilities under-
water and for demolition work with
tight schedules. Today’s standards
and tight schedules can only be
maintained thanks to the very latest
technology and low-maintenance
equipment. Even though simple sys-
tems might appear more cost-ef-
fective at first glance, the operator
should also consider the medium-
term maintenance costs, and how
well the equipment will maintain its
value. Even minor weaknesses such
as a bulky housing with external
connectors or too many seals in the
impact unit can later result in seve-
re problems and high costs.
LST XB/iS series hydraulic breakers
The hydraulic breakers of the XB/iS
series are characterised by their
perfect balance of power and du-
rability. Their intelligent impact

and rate fully adjustably to the ma-
terial being processed. The ran-
ge of models covers carriers from
0.6 tonnes to 120 tonnes. The »iS«

cial »intelligent impact system«.
This system dynamically adjusts
the stroke power and speed to the
hardness of the material being pro-
cessed. This guarantees the maxi-
mum possible productivity, while
at the same time minimizing wear to
the breaker and carrier.
The XB/iS series is a tireless and in-
dispensable aid to the user for even
the most difficult tasks. Thanks to
the excellent power-to-weight ratio
and their slim design, these brea-
kers are ideal for all types of work,
from demolition in residential areas
and landscaping for the small bre-
akers to recycling, rock crushing
and quarry work for the large ones.
Maximum force transmission
coupled with the lowest pos-
sible vibrations is ensured by
the dual shock-absorber sys-
tem, the vibration-insulated

Screening, crushing, cutting. A product overview.
LST offers various systems for the
crushing and screening of materi-
als. Ideal alternatives to the clas-
sical grid bucket include the rotary
screening bucket of the RT series,
the shredding bucket of the SB se-
ries, the VB vibrating bucket and the
RT-W screening bucket for wheel-
loaders.
The bucket crusher of the CB series
enables the preparation of waste
materials for immediate recycling
at the construction site without high
costs for transport or administrati-
ve authorization. This is driven by a
piston motor, and is equipped with
mobile gripping jaws, whose adjus-
tment capability enables the crus-
hing of various materials ranging
in size from 20 mm to 120 mm, fea-
turing a material output of up to 42
m³ per hour for CB 400 (depending
on material).
There are basically two methods of
excavation and demolition and re-
cycling of the waste materials pro-
duced.
On many construction sites, hy-
draulic breakers and demolition and
multi-functional shears are used in
the first stage, followed in the se-
cond stage by concrete pulverizers
of the P series or rotatable concrete
pulverizers of the RP series, which
carry out the task of crushing.
An alternative solution for construc-
tion sites where only low levels of
vibration and noise are allowed
(e.g. in the vicinity of hospitals or
schools) is drum cutters, which also
crush the material as it is cleared.
Their application has long since ex-
tended beyond tunnelling, canal and
special civil engineering, and they
are now also used extensively for
demolition work.

The LST SC cutter series is a matu-
re quality product of a particularly
robust design specially for demoliti-
on and difficult excavation. The low-
speed hydraulic motor develops
a high torque, high force and high
excavation performance with extre-
mely low noise levels and quiet run-
ning. Its solid drive shaft mounting
and the heavy-duty sealing system
enable it to withstand the stresses
encountered in tunnel construction,
heavy demolition work, under water
and in restricted earthworks. Ano-
ther particular advantage is that the
cutter with its various hydraulic mo-
tors can be adapted to the available
oil supply of the carrier.
The drums of the SC series are easy
to replace and available in 3 basic
variations: for demolition, excava-
tion and for profiling.
The cutters of the SC series are
extremely flexible in use, thanks to
specially developed cutting drums
with cutting depth limitation for
demolition work, rock and profiling
work, the cutting of tree stumps,
cutting of channels and the mixing
of soils.
These are available for hydraulic
excavators from 1 to 350 tonnes
operating weight.
Three job reports on multi-functional shears
Multi-functional shears are beco-
ming increasingly popular. This is
mainly because after a few initial
difficulties, this type of shears is
just as good as conventional demoli-
tion shears in almost every respect.
Their robustness and compactness,
coupled with high force and the abi-
lity to adapt to today’s time pressu-
res have all contributed to the great
success of this design.
The range of versions and their ro-
bustness plays an important role
particularly for companies who
have a high equipment utilisation
and must be continually available
on new construction sites, such as
WIWA Wilko Wagner GmbH, one of
Germany’s leading demolition com-
panies. A guarantee of high-quality,
and above all always spectacular
demolition work. This company ope-
rates an MP 380 multi-functional
shear from LST which is impressive
for its 3.7 tonnes operating weight,
and combined with carriers such as
the Hyundai 360 LC or Liebherr 944
makes a monstrous demolition ma-
chine that has to be used perfectly.
Under the care of the professionals
of WIWA, this equipment was used
on half a dozen construction sites
within six months, including the
clearance of the exhibition site to-
gether with several sometimes hea-
vily reinforced concrete buildings.
The demolition shear jaw with its
extra-long blades for the cutting of
reinforcements and even steel be-
ams provides a previously unheard
of material capacity. The high force
available, coupled with excellent
vision and manoeuverability, are
particularly helpful in enabling
clearance to be carried out much
more quickly and safely. The shear
has also shown no unusual wear so
far, and even the replaceable blades
and teeth are withstanding the ex-
treme stresses perfectly.
Multi-functional equipment is parti-
cularly important when it comes to
»ticklish jobs«. Because construc-
tion sites working under great time
pressure place high demands on
both man and machine, such as the
night-time demolition of bridges or
buildings. One of the most spectacu-
lar demolitions of the year 2005 took
place at the end of October in Mu-
nich. On the Kaufinger Straße, which
with rental prices of around  250
per m² is probably the most expen-
sive shopping street in Germany,
one of the established buildings was
demolished to make way for a new
palace. Even the tender was enough
to make bidders hold their breath:

would have to be broken out. Wall-
to-wall: a new construction and an
office building to be put up under
time pressure. On the other sides:

stone’s throw. Dust, noise and was-

as possible. Added to this, an almost
impossible schedule, continually
under the eye of assessors and local
residents – not to mention the unen-
ding stream of tourists. In view of
the above, it can be well understood
that the first attempt with conventi-
onal demolition shears proved un-
successful: the reinforcement was
too strong, the view poor and the
uncontrolled falling of demolition
material an unacceptable risk. The
local Munich demolition company
was forced to make a switch and fit
heavy equipment to the PC 450 with
long-front jib – a 2-cylinder multi-
functional shear with 2.8 tonnes
operating weight and combi-cutter
jaws. In this type of demolition work
with critical time and space require-
ments, these shears demonstrate
their advantages time and again
– high force in concrete and rein-
forcement with the optimum slim
housing and low weight. Another

important option is
the facility at unforeseen places to
switch quickly to scrap shears or
pulverizer jaws. This fortunately
proved unnecessary in our case,
since the LST MP 250 multi-func-
tional shear had the building down
without any problems within one
week.
When used on the long-front exca-
vator in particular, it is important
that the fitted shear allows optimum
visibility and flexibility. Rapid and
accurate rotation, perfect centre of
gravity and a compact body are ex-
tremely important. For the »Norm-
kies Abbruch- und Sanierungs-
GmbH« of Zwickau, these were the
reasons for using their MP 250 mul-
ti-functional shear for the clearance
of one of the most modern parking
garages in Europe in Chemnitz. The
steel construction required a scrap
shear – just another kit for a multi-
functional shear, which was quickly
delivered and installed direct from
the local branch of LST. Previously,
the outer cladding of corrugated
plate and the core of the building
had been completely removed – in
the last step, the extremely compact
steel mesh now had to be removed
from the outside. »NK Abbruch«
decided on a PC-340 long-front ex-
cavator on a protecting gravel ramp,
combined with a further PC-340 for
working at lower heights. Due to the
strongly reinforced, cubic construc-
tion of the garage, good vision and
manoeuvrability were essential.
With the scrap shear jaws, the shear
was able to work its way through
18,500 m³ of building within 14 days,
ultimately cutting and transporting
away 450 tonnes of steel beams.

versatile application possibilities
in which multi-functional shears
can today steal the show away from
conventional demolition equipment:

quick succession or even simul-

New XB/iS hydraulic breakers

LST will be presenting the new hydraulic breakers of the XB/iS series for the
first time at BAUMA 2007. These are equipped with the intelligent impact sys-
tem (»i«), multiple all-side damping, an extremely slim profile and the new
»SuperSilenced« soundproofing. These are specially equipped for heavy de-
molition work with the strong, multi-component »easySwitch« chuck hou-
sing, optional turbo-chisels and optional »AutoLub« lubrication system.

Small shears and bucket crushers

Brand new: the small scrap and demolition shears of the MS series with
continuous 360° rotation. These have been specially optimised with regard
to weight, and at 150 kg – 700 kg are ideally suitable for mini-excavators.
The bucket crushers of the CB series have also been completely redesig-
ned, and the product range extended to 4 models. This excavator attach-
ment enables the crushing of material direct on the construction site.

New DSG grapples and RT buckets

No material can catch or penetrate any longer to the completely sealed, cur-
ved body of the new DSG series demolition grapple. Protective plates also
protect the piston rods against damage from reinforcing components. With
its 90° opening angle, it offers a perfect balance between force and volume.
New with the RT series rotary screening bucket: its conical drum can hold
more material, enabling even more efficient screening. The motor is protec-
ted by anti-shock valves.

The new HWRI rotary system

At BAUMA 2007, all LST equipment with a fifth wheel will be equipped with
the new LST HWRI rotary system. This consists of a dual-mounted fifth
wheel with an internal rotary motor, which ensures high strain capability.
The motor is protected by anti-shock valves. Throttle valves ensure the
optimum constant rotation speed, and thus accurate positioning.

LSToolV12: ERP² planning technology at the LST Group
At the end of the first half-year of
2007, the LST Group will bring its
new LSToolV12 stock management
system into operation. In autumn of
last year, the decision was made for
the new ERP² system following an
18-month selection period (»ERP«
stands for »Enterprise Resource
Planning«) .
The new system will dramatically
speed up procedures at LST and en-
able better production planning. As
a result, the sales force and service
technicians will in future have direct
access to warehouse availability in-
formation. All branches and locati-
ons are now connected to a central
computer centre, which also pro-
vides systems for knowledge ma-
nagement and co-operation. The
company’s own project planning
system will take over the control of
major consulting projects, while a
service system will monitor the sta-
tus of equipment and service jobs,
and a CRM system will provide cen-
tral recording of all customer data,
direct assignment to the consultant
and optimum compliance with cus-
tomer requirements.
The new computer centre was also
dedicated at the beginning of the
year. The infrastructure has been
completely converted to DELL® ser-
ver systems – all equipped with the
best 24x7 service, the latest compu-
ter and storage systems and remote
maintenance capabilities. Several
redundant power supplies, storage
systems and air-conditioning will
ensure minimum down-times. New
network infrastructures will pro-
vide rapid data transmission and
central data maintenance without
waiting times across the complete
LST Group.
The aim of this investment is to link
all international locations in future
so that information can be called
up quickly and directly by means of
central data storage.
The IT department is particular-
ly proud of the new cluster system
procure specially for the ERP sys-
tem, which includes a total of 24 In-
tel® XEON® processor cores and 48
GB RAM, which will be dedicated ex-
clusively to the stock management
system.

RP 170 demolition pulverizer
The ultimate all-rounder.
Wheel excavators in the 18 ton
class are today standard equip-
ment. While inconceivable several
years ago, they are now frequently
used for demolition and clearance
work, where they are greatly valu-
ed for their manoeuverability. The
success of chain excavators has
also brought with it increasingly
exacting requirements on demoli-
tion technology: smaller and more
restricted spaces, time and cost
pressure.
Conrad Olaf recognised this trend
at an early stage, and now uses
more and more chain excavators
in addition to mobile excavators.
Firmly established in the Rhein-
Main region, this demolition com-
pany has now earned a reputation
for itself in the field of rapid demo-
lition jobs in the area of 1,500 m³,
where it is particularly important
to be able to process all the waste
material, and carry out the demo-
lition while creating as little noise
and dust as possible, since such
work is often carried out very close
to residential areas.
He was greatly aided in the demo-
lition of a 3-storey high multi-pur-
pose hall by an RP 170 combi-cut-
ter demolition pulverizer supplied
by LST. Since the excavator as to
do everything on its own, from de-
molition to secondary demolition
and material sorting, the company
would otherwise have had to use a
separate demolition shear and a
pulverizer. With the RP series ho-
wever, demolition can be carried
out at maximum height and with
the accurate grappling force of 10
interchangeable teeth, while at the
same time working at ground level
with a machine that offers all the
positive features of a conventional
pulverizer. Because although the
RP has only one powerful cylin-
der – like a pulverizer, it also has
a straight and symmetrical shape
much like a demolition shear.
Thanks to the HWRI 360° conti-
nuous rotation (with dual-mounted
fifth wheel and motor protected by
reduction valve) it can also be po-
sitioned much more quickly and
accurately, and also cut and sort
reinforcement components with its
long, interchangeable wave blades.
The multi-purpose hall in the midd-
le of a farmyard was therefore able
to be demolished very quickly.

centre in Berlin
LST has been one of the fastest-
growing companies in its sector
over recent years. With the world’s
most extensive product range of
attachments for demolition and re-
cycling work, LST is a genuine spe-
cialist. We put the priority on sound
advice and closeness to the custo-
mer, while our equipment provides
outstanding performance, long-
term productivity, ease of mainte-
nance and investment security.
LST invests a great deal in clo-
seness to the customer. For this
reason, SGM Baumaschinen GmbH
in Neuenhagen was incorporated
into the LST company group at the
beginning of 2006. SGM originated
in 2001 from RHG Baumaschinen
GmbH, which toward the end of the
1990’s was one of the best-known
hydraulic breaker dealers in Ger-
many. The new »LST Berlin« based
in Neuenhagen is an independent
branch of LST GmbH. The new LST
Berlin will soon become a fully
equipped location providing all fa-

cilities to do with sales, service and
rental of LST attachments.
In its first year of operation, the
new branch of LST in Berlin more
than doubled the sales figures of
the former SGM. Thanks to the
good connection with the main
factory and central warehouse in
Zwickau, both locations benefited
from each other’s stock and service
resources.
A management team was put in
charge of the management of the
new location during the build-up
phase: the progress was monitored
personally by the Managing Direc-
tor of the LST company group Mi-
chael Schwienbacher. The Regional
Sales Manager Ekkehard Gränz and
the Berlin Branch Manager Klaus
Staniszewski have already ensured
that the new location has come up
to the exacting demands of the LST
Group in the shortest possible time.

USG, SM Grabs
With their enclosed jaws, the uni-
versal grapples of the USG series
have been specially developed for
horticulture and landscaping. Their
adaptability to almost all require-
ments, their replaceable teeth, the
protective housing and the mainte-
nance-free hydraulic motor make
them an indispensable aid on mini-
excavators.
USG 35
The multi-jaw grapples of the SM
series have been specially develo-
ped for the handling of scrap.
The particularly robust and durable
drive with external hydraulic motor
and built-in anti-shock valves is
available as an option for multi-jaw
grapples from 14 tonnes excavator
operating weight.
With the tooth tips and grappler
arms of Hardox ®, they are
built extremely strongly,
and can be adapted to all
requirements with 4, 5 or 6
grappler arms.
The sister product of
the SM series is the
WM series, special-
ly designed for the
handling of scrap and
recyclable materials, with its
particularly low height and high
capacity. The machines of the WM
series can be supplied with open,
semi-open or closed jaws.
Many of the scrap and recyclable
materials grapples are also suitab-
le for use on truck loading cranes.
New generation of DSG demolition grapples
Well-known for their outstanding
durability, the DSG series grapp-
lers from LST have been redesigned
from the ground up, and will be pre-
sented at Bauma in the new design
and with new technology.

Special attention has been de-

voted to the increased
requirements of heavy
demolition work, since de-
molition grapples
have come into
increasingly wi-
despread use
over recent ye-
ars because
of because of
more stringent environ-
mental regulations.
The new LST DSG series demolition
grapples are machines in which de-
sign and handling have been brought
into perfect harmony. The new basic
body is completely curved in its
slimmed-down upper section, pre-
venting any material from catching,
and at the same time affording a
better view. Thanks to bolt-on cover
plates at all endangered points, it is
now almost impossible for materi-
al such as reinforcing components
to penetrate into the interior of the
grappler. The housing is completely
closed, and the specially protected
cylinders are no longer visible in the
danger area. With the new design,
the cylinders also develop more
force and open more quickly.
The jaws of the DSG series with
welded struts have also been com-
pletely redesigned. They now open
at a 90° angle, which leads to the
idea the ratio between force and
capacity. This also enables the re-
moval of material directly against
walls and shafts. The particularly
strong demolition struts also have
a larger area, which makes them
even more torsion-resistant and
strong: expressed in figures, this
means approx. 10% more capacity
and 10% greater opening width with
lower height.
The rotating gear has also been im-
proved and the new LST HWRI sys-
tem installed: the extremely strong,
dual-mounted fifth wheel with in-
ternal motor is even better protec-
ted, and the hydraulic motor is also
protected against over-pressure by
anti-shock valves. The connecting
hoses have been positioned at the
side for better protection. Reduction
valves ensure a constant oil flow and
thus accurate positioning.
DMG Grabs
The DMG series handling
grapples have been spe-
cially developed for heavy
demolition and the handling of heavy
or long objects (e.g. tree trunks and
beams). They are extremely power-
ful thanks to their two vertical cylin-
ders and the double bearing HWRI
rotation system. The cylinders are
integrated into the housing, protec-
ting them from harmful material.
Their arms equipped with long teeth
engage in each other, providing a
firm hold and maximum safety.

Adamant series scrap shears
Hydraulic scrap shears are indis-
pensable equipment in modern, in-
dustrial scrap yards, although they
are also used in demolition, recyc-
ling and foundries. They are equip-
ped with an extremely powerful hy-
draulic cylinder, which speeds up
and simplifies the cutting of even
the largest steel beams, rails and
pipes. In addition to stationary ma-
chines, it is above all mobility which
has contributed to the increasingly
widespread use of this type of scrap
shears over recent years. They can
be rotated hydraulically, relocated
quickly by fitting to chain or mobi-
le excavators and highly versatile
in use.
At scrap yards in and around Mos-
cow, three scrap shears of the
»Adamant« series are now de-
monstrating that they can handle
a material throughput of 25,000
tons of scrap per month without
any problem. The scrap shears are
in operation for 15 to 20 hours per
day under the most severe opera-
ting conditions. After the first 1,500
hours of operation, the increase in
productivity was already so great
that two further AD 4000’s were or-
dered. The »Adamants« convinced
the operator by means of their huge
power and low wear in comparison
to other scrap shears. The body and
cylinders are made of high-quality
steels, and the blades of tempered
steel. All the blades are attached by
means of recessed bolts and can be
turned four times, and are also re-
placeable like the blades in the tip.
These scrap shears are also equip-
ped with hydraulic HWRI 360° con-
tinuous rotation, which enables fast
and efficient working under even
the roughest conditions.
The second example is even more
extreme in its dimensions: In the
second-largest Chinese steelworks
of the WISCO WUGANG Group, which
produces around 2 million tonnes of
steel per year, the LST-1804S-50R
combination machine developed
specially for shift operation is wor-
king almost around the clock. For
this application, a mobile excavator
was connected to an AD 5000 scrap
shear, and hydraulics, cooling and
motor completely modified by LST.
In shift operation, the machine now
amazes its Chinese customers eve-
ry day, which was certainly due to
the fact that the customer had the

machine installed by German tech-
nicians, and its drivers trained over
a period of two weeks. The former-
ly laborious cutting of small parts,
rails and steel beams is now car-
ried out largely by the scrap shear
– which is much more efficient even
for Asian conditions.
Here in Germany, it can be seen
from the increased demand for
scrap shears for mini-excavators
from 4 tonnes for both chain ex-
cavators and handling excavators,
that the demands are increasing
for both smaller and medium-sized
scrap yards. The equipment howe-
ver is more than up to the tasks.

»Just in Time« is the catchword of
the industry for the 21st Century.
»Just in Time« means controlling
the flow of goods so that stockhol-
dings can be made smaller and more
efficient. For the construction and
clearance of production plant, this
means working with 100% perfect
scheduling. No more, no less.
The firm »Gebrüder Braig GmbH &
Co. KG« of Ehingen has made a re-
putation for itself over recent years
of handling this scheduling perfect-
ly. As a result, the company, which
now employs almost 150 people,
has since become a market leader in
the field of industrial demolition and
dismantling.
Over recent years, Audi has been
one of the most successful com-
panies in the automotive sector.
Coming to terms with this growth
requires continual changes and mo-
difications in the factories, as at the
beginning of 2007: almost under on-
going production operations, a com-
plete production line of 50,000 m² of
completely developed workshops
including machinery on two levels
would have to be dismantled within
a record time of 12 days. Tolerance
– zero.
The team of »Gebrüder Braig GmbH
& Co. KG« took up the challenge.
The construction management was
placed in the hands of a highly-ex-
perienced star team, Messrs. Schi-
neller. The carriers were supplied
by Eberle Hald GmbH, one of the lea-
ding construction equipment dea-
lers in Baden-Württemberg. Their
Branch Manager in Metzingen, Mr.
Papke, recommended excavators
which would be just as much up to
the task as Gebrüder Braig GmbH
– the Neuson 50Z3 5.5t. And as a
LST dealer he recommended the
optimum attachments: three small
scrap shears of the MS-S/30 series
from LST. These shears are ideal
for mini- and midi-excavators, and
with their high cutting force gua-
rantee fast clearance and perfect
positioning thanks to the hydraulic
rotation. The complete package,
of course, had to arrive on the
construction site »Just in Time« – no
delays would have been acceptable.
Eberle Hald quickly assembled the
scrap shears, prepare the excava-
tors and delivered them immediate-
ly to the construction site.
The construction site went into ope-
ration exactly on time. From now on,
the clock was ticking. Then came the
nightmare: one of the cylinder bolts
of a shear was slightly damaged
due to the severe conditions. This
is where the professionalism of the
contractors would come into play.
LST was informed of the damage
that evening, and on the very next
morning, a Friday, the new bolt was
delivered direct to the construction
site. Now the work was coming to
the crucial phase, and in the heat
of battle nobody remembered to in-
stall the bolt. Weekend arrived. As
feared, the damaged bolt resulted in
failure of the shear on Saturday eve-
ning. The consultant was called im-
mediately – what could be done? The
time was Saturday afternoon...

One hour later, the 24-hour tech-
nical service of LST was on-site.
As the technician made improvised
repairs to the shears, he was able
to establish that thanks to the high
force of the MS-S scrap shears, the
work had already progress further
than expected. The reverse side of
the coin: large quantities of remo-
ved steel now had to be transpor-
ted away – not the normal task of a
shear. A grappler was needed – and
as quickly as possible.
A picturesque Saturday evening for
the technicians of LST. On the way to
the central warehouse, the orders
were generated by the 24/7 internal
staff, the parts ordered to repair the
shears overnight, and the small DSG
25 demolition and sorting grapples
prepared for delivery. Naturally
also including the Lehnhoff MS03
quick coupler plates also stocked
there. This was followed early on
Sunday by delivery by the technical
service. At 08:00 – with fresh coffee
and rolls, as should be the case for a
relaxed Sunday morning, the grapp-
ler was successfully brought into
operation.
And the construction site was closed
down right on time. »Without de-
lay«, as the Managing Director of
Gebrüder Braig GmbH, Karl-Eber-
hard Braig, likes to say. »We were
aware of the challenge, and were
able to overcome it thanks to the
strong team under the project ma-
nagement of Mrs. Braun, Messrs.
Schineller and all others involved
– and also thanks to our capable
partners Eberle Hald and LST«. And
at Audi, production is again running
at the maximum – »Just in Time«,
naturally, and around the clock, 24/
7 service included.

Lubrication
Right on time for Bauma 2007, the
LST Group announces its strategic
partnership with Lincoln Industrial
GmbH.
In the past, large demolition machi-
nes have repeatedly been equipped
with lubrication systems by LST.
Lincoln Industrial and LST have
now concluded a close co-operative
agreement, with the medium-term
objective of equipping every LST ma-
chine with a permanent lubrication
system (in contrast to the single-
stroke lubrication systems offered
by the competition) quickly and with
standard components.
Quick couplers with automatic
hose connection
A wide range of attachments are
used today on building sites in order
to be able to work more quickly and
productively. Strict environmental
regulations also have to be obser-
ved, and valuable recyclable mate-
rials carefully sorted.
The refitting of individual attach-
ments still takes a lot of time. The
»OilQuick« quick-coupling system
with automatic hose connection re-
duces this time significantly, becau-
se excavators equipped with this
system can change attachments
much more quickly, and therefore
work more productively and safely.
LST and OilQuick® Deutschland have
now concluded a co-operative effort
in order to be able to offer OilQuick
quick-couplers as standard addi-
tional equipment for all of the LST
products.

What is already standard with hy-

draulic breakers and is the coming
trend for demolition and scrap
shears will thus be extended to the
