2. Has the incest taboo any significance in family relation.

What is marriage?

Marriage as an institution is undergoing significant changes In our society. Factors contributing

to trends that are seen in present day marital relationships include changing roles for men and
women brought about by the women movement which advocates for role equality as well as
more demanding economic times which require that both partners contribute financially to the
family.

What is Marital stability?

Marital stability can be defined as remaining legally married without divorce, physical
separation, or legal separation. Marital stability is related to but distinct from marital adjustment,
marital quality, marital satisfaction, and marital success. Factors that are associated with
decreases in marital stability include financial stress, low income, low educational attainment,
unemployment, young age at marriage, parental divorce, dissimilarity to spouse, religiosity, and
serial premarital cohabitation. Marital stability is generally associated with positive outcomes for
adults and children. It is the sustenance of marriage shortcomings and very able to handle every
difficulty that comes with it, it is maintaining the old relationship and keeping up with each
others bad characters, the intimacy and quality of a marriage determines its stability, marital
relationships among working class and middle class couples are characteristically more stable.
Marital stability measure the longevity of everyone. Marital stability is an objective dimension of
marital relationship which refers to whether of not the marriage is intact. Findings shows that
social ,behavioral, domestic, sexual religious and financial factors. It takes understanding,
happiness and comfort to be in a stable relationship. However, marriage and family life have
undergone major changes during the past few decades globally and marriage institution is
witnessing instability globally. The fragility of the marriage bond is notable feature of
contemporary world and is present at every level of the society.

What is Marital instability?

Marital instability is the opposition of marital stability, it is when a marriage break down through
separation, divorce lack of communication and understanding inconsistency in in intimacy and
so forth. Happiness in marriage is the ardent desire of all intending couples. Marital instability is
always a human tragedy that is desired by no one. It causes hurt and suffering to human persons.
It is an experience, which involves serious disruption of life at many levels. Many people who
have been through the experience of a marital instability liken it to the experience of
bereavement. One of the most important relationships between a man and a woman is marriage
which involves emotional and legal commitments to each other in adult life. Selecting a partner
and entering into a marriage contract is considered a personal achievement and the selection of
marriage partner is indeed one of the most important decisions one makes in a lifetime. People
marry for many reasons which include; physical attraction, love happiness, companionship and
the desire to have children. When partners engage in a unstable relationship it can lead into an
unstable relationship. It is called marital breakdown is the divorce and separation and desertion
as well as estrangement and continuation of living together without marital relations. Instability
causes lack of bond, not all marriage we see outside are rich and happy a lot of marriages in our
contemporary world go through a lot of marriage instability either for one reason or the other.
When we begin to the point of stability that is when we forget our instabilities. For a marriage to
be stable husband and wife need to spend quality time together and enjoy each others company.
One of the things that causes instability in marriage is lack of understanding and respect.

Discuss marital satisfaction?

Marital satisfaction can be defined as the attitude an individual has towards his/her own marital
relationship. Marital satisfaction is a state of peace and happiness on your marriage; marital
satisfaction is one of the most important factors influencing the life satisfaction of elderly,it is
simply the degree of contentment regarding certain aspects of marital relationships as well as the
whole relationship, according to some previous researchers, marital satisfaction refers to a
subjective and global evaluation of the relationship. It is a situation in which couples have
satisfaction and feel happy and living together. The concept of marital satisfaction is a
multifaceted and multidimensional concept including psychological, socioeconomic and spiritual
components. The criteria for a satisfying marital relationship may be highly varied and may
depend on a unique set of culturally enforced norms, obligations and values. Marital satisfaction
is based on and determined by spouses interaction, rewards from marital interaction but not by
socio economic characteristics expressive interaction is needed in a marriage for its survival.
Effective communication is very important in marriage satisfaction, any rearde from marital
interaction can make the marriage more satisfying the feeling of being understood, the joy of
agreement, the careless comfort and care and feeling of being listened to. Companionship makes
a marriage more rewarding because partners appreciate each others companionship which leads
to a more satisfying relationship. Marital satisfaction is a very crucial aspect of a relationship
because without satisfaction it can lead to instability and unhappiness in a relationship. A spouse
will be more satisfied in a relationship or marriage when he or she has more resources which will
make the relationship to be stronger. A spouse will be satisfied when he/she perceives the
relationship to be fair and considers it beneficial to him/her. A spouse will be more satisfied with
the marriage when he or she has frequent interactions with the partner.

There are three factors that results in great marital and satisfaction, they are Communication,
sexual Satisfaction and love/ adult attachment. Marital satisfaction is the result of a happy and
satisfying quality of marriage. Marital dissatisfaction is most often related to a spouse’s
emotional instability, but dissatisfaction is also related to having a partner who is low in
consciousness, low in agreeableness and low in openness.

Has the incest taboo any significance in family relation?

An incest taboo is any cultural rule or norm that prohibits sexual relations between certain
members of the same family, mainly between individuals related by blood. All human cultures
have norms that exclude certain close relatives from those considered suitable or permissible
sexual or marriage partners, making such relationships taboo. However, different norms exist
among cultures as to which blood relations are permissible as sexual partners and which are not.
Sexual relations between related persons which are subject to the taboo are called incestuous
relationships.

Some cultures proscribe sexual relations between clan-members, even when no traceable
biological relationship exists, while members of other clans are permissible irrespective of the
existence of a biological relationship. In many cultures, certain types of cousin relations are
preferred as sexual and marital partners, whereas in others these are taboo. Some cultures permit
sexual and marital relations between aunts/uncles and nephews/nieces. In some instances,
brother–sister marriages have been practised by the elites with some regularity. Parent–child and
sibling–sibling unions are almost universally taboo. A family relationship can be defined as any
combination of filiation or conjugal relationships that join two people directly or through a third
party. Conjugality is defined in this census as a de facto cohabitation, thus independent of the
situation as regards the legal marital status.

Family relation is relatedness or connection by blood or marriage or adoption. kinship,

relationship. relation - an abstraction belonging to or characteristic of two entities or parts
together. According to Frued,he argued that there’d be no need for incest to be such a powerful
cultural taboo if people weren’t sexually attracted to their relatives in the first place. Given that
in-breeding is associated with increased mortality, he argued that the incest taboo had emerged
as way to keep our dangerous incestuous desires in check. Evolutionary psychologists take a
strikingly different view. Inspired by Edward Westermarck, the Finnish sociologist and
anthropologist, they argue that we’ve evolved automatic psychological processes that lead us to
find our relatives sexually aversive, not attractive, thus decreasing the likelihood of in-breeding
occurring. Who’s right – Freud or Westermarck?
