VSL. AT ANCHORAGE @ WHITEGATE(IRELAND)

1030-1200 LT: All life boat crew suitably dressed with proper PPE & life
jackets. L/Jacket whistles, lights checked working satisfactory. Life boat
engines tried out ahead/astern with full rudder movement all found
satisfactory. Painter made fast, harbor safety pin and lashings removed life
boats lowered above the water level & hoisted back as per the order from
master, found satisfactory. All boat crew boarded the life boat and seat
belts checked & buckled up. Both life boats lowered in the water as per
master’s order. Life boat waterborne, Painters released, & life boats.
On/OFF load release of the life boat hooks carried out.
Both Life Boats maneuvered in the water, life boat lights checked,
compasses compared all found satisfactory. Sprinkler system tried out,
working in order. Hooks resetted & both life boats hoisted back and stowed
in position, limit switch working satisfactorily. Life boat lashings taken
back, harbor safety pin and gripes secured, life boat cleaned. Sprinkler
system flushed with fresh water. All found satisfactory.
All LSA equipment’s checked all found satisfactory.
De-briefing carried out by CO, all crew well understood.
 Contingency checklist 13 discussed and explained.
 Response to the situation was positive.
 Crew not familiar with resetting of hooks. Same explained during
drill.

*Each Lifeboat to be launched in water once every three months. In case of free fall lifeboat, once every here months
during abandon ship drill, the crew shall board the lifeboat, properly secure themselves in their seat commence launch
procedure till point of actual release (I.e. release hook not to be released only carry out rehearsal till a point just prior the
release)
For freefall lifeboat, also the lifeboat must be maneuvered in water every three months, it can be either freefall launched
with required operating crew or lowered by means of davit without the crew and later maneuvered in the water. Once
every six months the lifeboat must be freefall launched or a simulated launch done as per manufacturer’s procedures.
