Additional Note:

BACTEC MGIT is a culture based method for rapid identification of mycobacteria in all types of clinical samples.
Limit of detection: 10-100 viable mycobacteria
Time to detection is dependent on multiple factors: number of viable organisms present in the sample, sample quality, sample collection method, sample
processing and patient factors (eg anti tubercular treatment)
False negative culture (smear positive) may be seen in patients on anti tubercular therapy
A single negative culture should not be used to rule out the presence of mycobacteria.
