RADIAL DISPLACEMENT OF A LONG CYLINDRICAL

SHELL SU]JJECTED TO RADIAL CONCENTRATED FORCES

]3. V. Nerubailo UDC539.3

The question of d e t e r m i n i n g the radial displacement of an infinite c i r c u l a r cylindrical shell subjected

to r a d i a l c o n c e n t r a t e d f o r c e s has been c o n s i d e r e d in [5-8, 10, 12-15]. The main attention has been paid to
the effect of two opposite c o n c e n t r a t e d f o r c e s applied to the same d i a m e t e r . To solve the problem posed,
the authors used e i g h t h - o r d e r s h e l l t h e o r y equations in two coordinates. The exception is [81 in which
s e m i - m e m b r a n e t h e o r y equations a r e taken as the basis together with the exact equations of shell theory;
some r e s u l t s of a c o m p a r i s o n between the approximate and exact solutions are p r e s e n t e d .

The p r o b l e m posed is solved here on the basis of the s e m i - m e m b r a n e equations of the V. Z. Vlasov
shell t h e o r y . * Final f o r m u l a s convenient for p r a c t i c a l application are obtained for the m a x i m u m value of
the radial displacement at points of application of the concentrated f o r c e s .
w The fundamental governing equation of a c i r c u l a r cylindrical shell is written as

governing function r (a, /3) by the relationships

v = (2 q- v) ~ q- ~ - - 2C (1.2)

by the m o r e exact shell theory [1].
