INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY LENSES

• Safety lenses are specially designed eyewear that provides protection for the eyes during
various activities.

• They are made from impact-resistant materials to prevent injuries from flying debris or
hazardous materials.

• Safety lenses can come in various forms such as safety glasses, goggles, or face shields.
INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY LENSES

• Protecting the eyes is crucial in preventing injuries and maintaining eye health.
• Safety lenses can prevent eye injuries from impacts, chemicals, UV radiation, and other
hazards.
• Wearing safety lenses is essential in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and
healthcare.
TYPES OF SAFETY LENSES

• Laminated glass safety lenses

• Heat toughened safety lenses
• Special heat toughened safety
lenses
• Chemically toughened safety
lenses
LAMINATED GLASS SAFETY LENSES
• These lenses are not very strong.
• These lenses are made up by cementing together two pieces of glass with cellulose acetate.
• Able to withstand significantly more impact than a standard glass lens.
• The main advantages of laminated safety glass i.e On accidents the glass does not harm/injure the body,
• It acts as a good insulator .
• It is sound proof.
• It has got a good strength compared to toughened and other sheet glasses.
HEAT TOUGHENED SAFETY LENSES -
• A heat toughened safety lens needs to be made thicker than a standard stock lens.
• Heat toughened lenses are often said to be safe.
• Broken pieces are shaped like cubes and blunt.
SPECIAL HEAT TOUGHENED SAFETY LENSES

• These lenses are somewhat thinner than the usual heat toughened lens.
• Can be identified with a polarizing strain view.
• This strain pattern is different than conventional heat toughened lens.
CHEMICALLY TOUGHENED LENSES

• In chemical toughened process, large batches of cut lenses are first preheated.
• Then these are immersed in the bath of chemical( molten potassium nitrate at temp of
440C).
• These lenses are fairly thin, extremely regular and strong.
• The process is fully automated, because the chemical used are hot and dangerous.
SAFETY LENSES INCLUDES
• Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight, impact-resistant, and ideal for general safety applications.

• Trivex lenses offer similar impact resistance to polycarbonate but have better optical quality.

• Prescription safety lenses can be customized to correct vision while providing protection.
LENS COATING FOR SAFETY LENSES

• Anti-scratch coatings help prolong the life of safety lenses by reducing surface damage.

• Anti-fog coatings prevent fogging, ensuring clear vision in humid or temperature-changing

environments.

• UV protection coatings block harmful UV rays to safeguard the eyes from long-term damage.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT SAFETY LENSES

• Consider the specific hazards present in your work environment when selecting safety lenses.

• Ensure that safety lenses meet industry standards such as ANSI Z87.1 for impact resistance.

• Consult with an eye care professional to determine the most suitable safety lenses for your
needs.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE OF SAFETY LENSES

• Regularly clean safety lenses with a mild soap and water solution to remove dirt and debris.

• Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that can damage the lens coatings.

• Store safety lenses in a protective case when not in use to prevent scratches and other damage .
BENEFITS OF SAFETY LENSES

• Preventing eye injuries can reduce medical expenses and lost productivity in the workplace.

• Safety lenses promote a culture of safety and compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

• Enhanced comfort, clarity, and vision protection are additional benefits of wearing safety lenses.
