EXTERNAL PARASITES – Grade 5

 Parasites found on our bodies, staying above the skin or burrow into the skin.
1. Mites
2. Louse
3. Flea

Mite
 Stay on the skin and burrow into it.
 Hide between fingers, under folds of wrists, elbows or knee.
 In small children, they are found on the head, neck, palms, face and soles of feet.
 They cause a skin disease called scabies.

Signs And Symptoms Of Scabies Prevention


 Itching of the skin, esp. at night.  Wash and clean your cloths and
 Pimple like rash beddings using hot soapy water.
 Scales or blisters  Avoid body contact with infected
 Sores caused by scratching persons.

Lice
 Found in the hair, waistline and hidden parts of the body.

Signs and Symptoms of lice Prevention


 Scratching head and infected areas.  Do not share personal items like,
combs, brushes and towels.
 Do not share cloths and beddings.

Jiggers
A jigger is a small flea that lays its eggs under the skin of a person.

 Frequent itching  Fumigating our homes
 Pain around the infested area  Observing hygiene
 Black dot – like head at the infested  Wearing shoes
area.
