Media Bias in Sports

After Gans' "Deciding What is News," political media bias and ideological impacts on

news have increased. Editorial choices affect positive, neutral, and negative material, and

production tools emphasize or deemphasize items to match an outlet's philosophy (Shultziner &

Stukalin, 2021). Sports media bias has far-reaching effects on business and society. This program

has taught me how political, racial, and regional media biases may affect sports coverage and

players. Media sources choose sensationalism and controversy above accuracy and fairness. This

may perpetuate prejudices, marginalize players or teams, and alter facts to suit a narrative. Auto-

written news pieces are now more objective, believable (message and medium credibility), and

less biased (Wu, 2020).

Media bias is a threat to both sports journalism and business. Reporting bias may affect

public opinion, fan behavior, and an athlete's career and endorsements. I must combat media

prejudice as a future sports professional. To achieve this, I will promote ethical and honest

reporting, advocate for diversity and inclusion in sports media, and hold media outlets

responsible for fair coverage. I will also aggressively support media bias prevention and sports

reporting fairness measures. Digital literacy is frequently suggested as a solution to 'false news'

(Buckingham, 2019).

Media prejudice similarly affects my final research on the media depiction of female

athletes. Sports media gender prejudice affects female athletes' prospects, recognition, and

popular support. My study will critically analyze media prejudice, emphasizing its negative

consequences for female athletes and calling for more fair and inclusive media coverage.
Finally, media bias in sports is a complicated subject requiring attention and action. As a

future sports professional, I want to be part of the solution, promote fair and honest reporting,

and give players of all backgrounds the respect they deserve.
