Area related to circles

Circle
Perimeter of Circle = 2𝝅r

Area of Circle = 𝝅r2

Area related to circles

Semi-Circle
Perimeter of Semi-Circle = 𝝅r + 2r

Area of Semi-Circle = 𝝅r2/2

Area related to circles

Arc of a Circle
The arc of a circle is defined as the part or segment of the
circumference of a circle.
Area related to circles

Length of an Arc of a Circle

Length of an arc of a sector of an angle 𝜃 is:
Area related to circles

Sector of a Circle
That the portion (or part) of the circular region enclosed by two
radii and the corresponding arc is called a sector of the circle.
Area related to circles

Area of Minor Sector

A = (θ/360°) × πr2

Area of Major Sector

A = 360° - Area of Minor Sector
1. In fig. OAB is a sector of circle of radius 10.5 cm. the perimeter or the
circumference of the sector is

(A) 30 cm
(B) 32 cm
(C) 34 cm
(D) 36 cm
Area related to circles

Segment of a circle
The region enclosed by an arc and a chord is called a
segment of the circle.
Area related to circles

Area of Segment
Area of Segment = Area of Sector OPQ - Area of △ OPQ
2. Area of a sector of a circle of radius 36 cm is 54𝜋 cm2 . The length of
the corresponding arc of the sector is:

(A) 6.44 cm
(B) 7.53 cm
(C) 8.69 cm
(D) 9.43 cm
3. A chord of a circle of radius 28 cm subtends an angle of 60° at the
centre of the circle. The area of the minor segment is:

2
(A) 60.256 cm
2
(B) 339.47 cm
(C) 410.67 cm2
2
(D) 71.20 cm
4. The circumference of two concentric circles forming a ring are 88 cm
and 66 cm respectively. The width of the ring is:

(A) 14 cm
(B) 7 cm
(C) 7/2 cm
(D) 21 cm
5. In the figure, a square is inscribed in a circle of diameter d and
another square is circumscribing the circle. Find the ratio of the area
of the outer square to the area of the inner square.
6. In a circle of diameter 40 cm, a rhombus is inscribed with all its
vertices on the circle. Find the area of the rhombus.
7. In figure, ABCD is a trapezium of area 24.5 sq. cm. in it, AD || BC,
∠𝐷𝐴𝑉 = 900 , AD = 10 cm and BC = 4 cm. if ABE is a quadrant of a
circle, find the area of the shaded region.
8. If the circumferences of two circles are in the ratio 4:9, then the ratio in
their area is:

(A) 9:4
(B) 2:3
(C) 4:9
(D) 16:81
9. The minute hand of a clock is 12 cm long. Find the area of the face
of the clock described by the minute hand in 35 minutes.
10. In figure, ABC is a triangle right-angled at B, with AB = 14 cm and BC = 24cm.
with the vertices A, B and C as centers, arcs are drawn, each of radius 7 cm. find
the area of the shaded region.
11. The short and long hands of a clock are 4 cm and 6 cm long respectively. Find
the sum of the distance travelled by their tips in 2 days.
