4-DIFFERENTIAL PROTECTION FUNCTION:

I- Loop Back test

The purpose of loop back test is to ensure the relay correct operation in case of no communication available & it’s
depending on the communication type as follow:
 Direct Fiber optic Cable
 Communication using P591 interface unit
 Communication using P592 interface unit
 Communication using P593 interface unit
 Communication using P594 interface unit

Set cell (0F12 test loop back) to:

 Disable:
 Internal: that mean relay will make loop back internally without need the change the fiber optic cable
 External: you have to make jumpers between transmitted & received channels either through fiber optic
ports directly or through jumper between TX & RX on the interface unit

The relay respond as if it is connected to remote relay with current at the remote end equal to and in phase with current
injected at the local end
 Loop back alarm will be active
 Check channel status ,propagation delays and communication statistics in (measurement4)

With loop back test either internal or external the remote end relay will be isolate d or will sense comm. fail signaling

Set Address: to (00) in case of loop back test external and to 1A & 1B in normal operation

 Repeat for other phases

Procedures:

I-Lower Slope

 Disabled all the other relay protection functions

 Ibias = Ia , Idiff= Ib & Ia> Ib
 Assign three different led to give phase segregated trip information TripA,B&C
 Assumption Is1= 0.2pu, K1=30% , Is2= 2.0 pu & ensure Ibias < IS2
 Make sure that the relay is on loop back mode by
1. Setting cell (0f12 Test loop back) to External and applying either loop back fiber on
the relay or loop back is selected on the P590
2. Alternatively setting cell (0f12 Test loop back) to External

 Give bias current Ia = 1.0 p.u (according to relay rated current ) thus the relay will trip with
phase A
 When Current in A is established slowly increase the current in the B phase from zero until
phase B trips
 Record the phase B current value and check that is corresponds to the
