INTRODUCTION

Technology has revolutionized many aspects of our society. New tools are constantly emerging
to solve problems and facilitate processes, both within companies and in our daily tasks. In this
universe, there is an innovation that has been increasingly attracting people's attention; a
novelty that began in science fiction books and films but is now a reality all over the world: the
humanoid robot. Generally speaking, humanoid robot is a robot built in the shape of a humanoid
being. This assignment uses bibliographic research to present information about humanoid
robots with the objective of highlighting the pros and cons of using these robots and comparing
the pros against the cons.
HUMANOID ROBOTS

Humanoid robots are professional service robots built to mimic human motion and interaction.
Like all service robots, they provide value by automating tasks in a way that leads to cost
savings and productivity.

Humanoid robots are a relatively new form of professional service robot. While long-dreamt
about, they’re now starting to become commercially viable in a wide range of applications these
robots are being used in the inspection, maintenance and disaster response at power plants to
relieve human workers of laborious and dangerous tasks. Similarly, they’re prepared to take
over routine tasks for astronauts in space travel. Other diverse applications include providing
companionship for the elderly and sick, acting as a guide and interacting with customers in the
role of receptionist, and potentially even being a host for the growth of human transplant organs.

EXAMPLES OF A HUMANOID ROBOT (AMECA)

Ameca is considered to be the most advanced humanoid robot in the world. It was created in
2021, and firstly developed at Engineered Arts headquarters in Falmouth, Cornwall UK, by
Advanced Mechanical and Electrical Concepts (AMEC) Group as a platform for the
development of future robotics Tecnologies. Ameca was designed to be a social robot, mimic
human movements, interact with people in various settings like providing companionship and
assistance to elderly individuals in care facilities or at home. Although this robot cannot walk
or move it is very impressive in its lifelike features like its human interaction skills.

PROS OF HUMANOID ROBOTICS

- Contribution in industry: humanoid robots are used in a variety of industries,

including healthcare, manufacturing, and customer service. For example,
humanoid robots can be used to provide companionship to patients in
hospitals, assist with assembly line tasks in factories, greet customers in
stores and they can later take on bigger tasks like taking care of the sick,
collecting the rubbish, guarding homes and offices, and giving directions on
the street.
- Helping the business sector: Corporations and businesses will also be
appreciative of the robots because they could use them to replace jobs, this
means less money that businesses will have to fork out to their employees,
they can be used as entertainers and in commercial spaces, but they will not
undertake major tasks.

- Social interaction: Androids can interact with humans in a more natural

manner. This is especially useful in applications like elderly care or therapy
for children with autism, their human-like appearance can make them easier
for people to interact with and accept, especially in caregiving or customer
service roles

- Engineering: in engineering humanoid robots can be very useful for

gathering information and doing jobs that would be hazardous for humans
like space or deep-sea exploration or gathering data at inaccessible
environments.

- Education and training: In schools, humanoid robots can be used to teach

can be used with children, they teach programming to children and
engineering in a practical and engaging way.

CONS OF HUMANOID ROBOTICS

Although we look at humanoid robotics as a net positive for the world, they have
their own setbacks like:
- Economic crisis: From this point of view, the robotization of the economy
could lead economic crises in the future, since the destruction of jobs would
lead to higher unemployment rates and even a reduction in wages and at the
same time increase the production of companies, which would generate a
mismatch between supply and demand that could destabilize economies.
- Unaffordable: A humanoid robot is very expensive, depending on how
advanced the robot is, as humanoid robots start becoming more and more
available to society, it will be mostly the wealthy who will be able to afford
them

- Dependency: having these robots doing these everyday jobs for humans,
will make humans become too dependent on robots, if humans have such
robots doing all of the everyday activities Humans will become lazy,
perpetuating unhealthy habits and retarding the evolution or growth of
mankind.

- Lack of skill and adaptation: Current humanoid robots may struggle with
tasks requiring fine motor skills or quick adaptation to unforeseen situations,
limiting their real-world application. They still can’t match human
adaptability and problem-solving skills. Their movements can be imprecise
compared to natural human motion.
CONCLUSION
From the collected information we can conclude that the cons outweigh the pros
when it comes to human robotics. most of the benefits from humanoid robots come
from their use in small repetitive tasks, the use of humanoid robots for bigger jobs
that can be done by humans could pose a threat to the economy of the world
endangering humanity. Although humanoid robotics have amazing benefits for
society, it would be best for their use to be limited to more superficial tasks as their
use in a larger scale can cause very bad long-term consequences for humanity.
