EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ADDITION
ELLIOT HEALTH SYSTEM (MA, USA)
The area that was demolished was originally an entrance to the hospital. With this threshold removed, E4H designed an
addition to the to building - an emergency department. Provided with the existing buildings plans and a sketch of the main
spatial planning in a digital sketch, I created the demolition plan, proposed building plain, ceiling plan and finish plan.
The plan design evolved with further discussions with the client, other architects and the interior designers who were
creating the furniture for the work islands. The main challenges in making this an effortless space to walk through was

working with the column grid and creating simple concise shapes of rooms that were affected by partcular areas that
were rotated 45 degrees. Many rooms and corridors require certain dimensions to incorporate mandatory healthcare
codes and it took some creativity to fit it all into the uneditable boundary of the exterior walls. The floor plan below is
the main construction document that was finalised as the proposed spatial planning before drawing up the related plans
required for it’s construction

To adhere to healthcare construction code,
we required the installation of a guardrail and
panels on the existing stair. Our process involved
researching materials from various suppliers and
exploring different iterations. The selected material
was carefully chosen, considering factors such as
weight, cost, appearance, and grate hole size.

stringer and straightforward guardrail.

SITE SURVEY AND DOCUMENTATION
NMC VALLEY CROSSROADS (NH, USA)
The site was acquired with an existing building structure, with the client considering its conversion into a
Medical Office Building as an extension of a nearby hospital. Accompanied by a colleague, I conducted on-site
measurements using basic tools such as a notebook, pencil, and laser measure.
Upon returning to the office, I undertook the task of creating the entire existing plan for the building. Utilizing
the gathered measurements, I labeled spaces currently in use while leaving empty spaces unlabeled. While
most of the floor plan assembly was completed independently from notes, collaboration with my colleague
was necessary in a few instances to resolve missing details. Due to the lengthy commute to the site, innovative
thinking and teamwork were essential, transforming what seemed like a straightforward task into a valuable
learning experience. Below is the final document provided to the client, depicting the current condition of the
building.

NURSING HOME REFLECTED CEILING PLANS

At this nursing home, I was tasked with compiling the reflected ceiling plans coherent gridwork for the ceiling. With the ceiling finishes predetermined, the grid. Addressing challenges such as irregular corners caused by a
