Cut two coffee stirring sticks to 90mm
long. Drill the two holes 2mm diameter
as shown on the template.
Tip for drilling: be very gentle with the
drill, that way you will get clean holes
without splitting the wood.

Straighten out a paper clip and then

fold it into shape. The template shows
the top view first then a side view for
the downward bends.

Make the push-rod then thread it into

position.

Fold up the crank from a
straightened paper clip wire.
Roll the card of the crank tube
round the crank and glue it to
itself. It needs to be free to
rotate on the crank.

Thread the end of the push rod

into the centre of the crank
tube then nip the wire closed
so that it grips the crank tube

Thread together the crank,

sides and slider hole as shown.

Hold everything into place on a
straight-sided cork and secure with
a couple of 140mm long cable ties.
Make sure everything is straight
and square before you pull the
cable ties tight.

Wrap the slider-tabs round the top

of the sides and glue them down to
secure the slider hole piece.

Glue the two sides of the dog

together around the top of the
push-rod wire. Fit the ears and tail
between the sides as you do so.

Thread a cocktail stick through one
of the rear legs and glue it into
place.
Fit the leg wire into place with a
drop of glue.

Thread the cocktail stick through

the hole in the body the fit the
other leg. The legs must swing
freely so leave a small gap between
them and the body.
Repeat the process with the
front-legs but this time the wire
loop goes on the other side.

Snip off the excess cocktail stick

with a pair of side cutters.

Cut two small strips from an
aluminium party plate roughly
5mm x 30mm each.
Roll them tightly round the end of
a cocktail stick..

Make two. You will use these

ferrules to connect the string that
pulls the dogs legs up..

Cut a 300mm length of heavy
fishing line. I used .35mm
Tie it centred to the loop in the
slider hole.
One end will pull the front legs, the
other end will pull the rear legs.

Turn the crank to its highest point.

Thread one end of the string
through one of the leg loops with
the ferrule in position. Lift the leg
to its highest position, pull the
string tight then nip up the ferrule
to secure.
Repeat the same process with the
other pair of legs.

Snip off any excess string to

complete the model.
Turn the handle and make the dog
leap!
