 What’s Pastor Thinking
Christ our Lord is Risen Today! Alleluia,
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Think of it - what a day this day is!
Jesus - whom His friends, His family,
and indeed all of Jerusalem, thought dead, was raised to
life on this day some two thousand years ago.
Not only was He raised to life - but He appeared to
people. He presented Himself to Peter who denied Him;
to Thomas who doubted Him; to Mary who wept for
Him. He visited with His friends, He ate with His
disciples, He talked with His followers.
The first Easter was an incredible day that started with
disbelief, with fear and trembling and bewilderment
beside an empty tomb. All human beings, whoever we
are and whatever station in life we are in, stand on
common ground when we stand at a grave. Death
leaves us powerless, broken and empty. Death is final.
No one expected the resurrection, not even the
disciples. The two women who went to the tomb that
first Easter morning, did not go to see if their Lord is
risen, but rather they went to finish the job of burying
Him. After all, who could believe after watching their
friend, their leader, their God be murdered in front of
them, that there was any hope of redeeming such a
miserable death?
When Jesus died, their hopes died, their convictions
died, their faith died. And they huddled in the upper
room where they had celebrated the Passover hiding
there in fear that the authorities would treat them just
as they had treated Jesus.
But, it happened! Jesus was bodily resurrected from the
tomb. It happened because God made it happen. And
then God went on and raised the faith of the disciples.
He brought to life again their dead convictions and
restored the hopes that they had lost. And it is because
of the resurrection that we are here today.
If the resurrection had not happened the disciples
would never have gone on, they would never have had
the courage, the audacity, the nerve, or the temerity to
say another word about Jesus in public, let alone to
claim that He rose and Jesus is King and Lord of the
living as well as King and Lord of the dead. So we
joyfully proclaim — Christ our Lord is Risen Today!

Honors Society for preparing this year’s Easter Holy water for you
to take home.
Blessed are you, Lord, all-powerful God, who in Christ, the living
water of salvation, blessed and transformed us. Grant that, when
we are sprinkled with this water or make use of it, we will be
refreshed inwardly by the power of the Holy Spirit and continue to
walk in the new life we received at baptism.

from parents & sponsors.
After Mass they attend a retreat in Kirwin Hall.
We invite parents, sponsor or other family members
to write letters to the candidate to offer
encouragement in their decision to be confirmed.
Letters need to be returned to the Office of Faith
Formation. Place the letters in an envelope with the
candidate’s name on it and drop it in the drop box at
the Faith Formation Office. Or you may email them to
carmstrong@staidanparish.org.
Here are a few topic suggestions for those letters:
 Our pride in the candidate for his/her preparation
for Confirmation – the extra study effort, their
service, and attention to prayer.
 How special/unique the candidate is and why.
 How he/she has brought love and joy to the family
and others.
 Encourage the candidate to come to their family in
times of pain, discouragement, failure. Speak
about these times in your own life.
 Encourage the candidate to always strive to grow
in his/her relationship with God and to live a
moral, responsible life as a fully initiated Catholic.

Sacrament of Reconciliation,
“Tell souls that from this fount of mercy souls

WE ARE AN EASTER PEOPLE
What a blessing it was to celebrate Holy Week together this
year! Thank you especially to our incredible staff who
decorated the Church for days, moving gracefully from Palm
Sunday's splendor, to the stark reality of Holy Thursday and
Good Friday, to the transformation of our sanctuary for
Easter. Thank you to all who donated to the flowers in church.
Their names are in today’s bulletin.
Thanks to all our parishioners who participated in every
aspect of our liturgy. To our lectors, Eucharistic ministers
cantors and choir members. To our Holy Thursday foot
washers, our dedicated altar servers and ushers.
In the early hours of Easter we were honored to welcome new
members of the Church. Congratulations to all and thank you
to the members of the OCIA preparation team.
To the students of St. Aidan School National Junior Honors
society who prepared hundreds of Easter Holy Water bottles.
Please bring some home and distribute among your family
and friends.
Thanks also to my brother priests and deacons for making
each service meaningful and poignant, and for the many
hours spent hearing confessions.
To all our parishioners who attended the Holy Week Services
— there is no greater pleasure than being with Jesus, here in
the church of St. Aidan.

OCIA UPDATES:
At the Easter Vigil, we welcome our new, fully initiated
Catholics: Skylar Stone, Rebekah Persaud, Arian Munoz,
Danielle Siebner, Samantha Iaboni, Michael Camarda, and
Douglas Campbell. We ask that you continue to keep them in
your prayers as they begin the final phase of the OCIA
Process, Mystagogy. During the next six weeks, they will
learn more about living Catholic life as they go forward to

LITURGICAL MINISTER TRAINING– SPRING 2024
The Diocese of Rockville Center will offer training in Spanish
and English for those who wish to serve as Extraordinary
Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors. No walk-ins
permitted, all participants must be registered in advance with
a letter from their pastor.
 Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Part A - This
training is required for all those who are beginning as
Ministers. This “BASIC” training is required for all
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Those who
wish to minister in hospitals, nursing homes and to the
homebound are required to attend Part B training in
addition to BASIC training. One must attend Part A
training prior to Part B training. A Lector Workshop is
available for both new and experienced lectors.

JUNIOR CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS
Hope you all have a blessed Easter and enjoy time with

ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY
All women are invited to join the Rosary Altar Society. We
are a faith filled group who gather to pray, celebrate, and
support each other. Our membership of over 150 women is
involved with many activities of our Parish. Please attend one
of our meetings and you will be welcomed to find many old
and new friends.
The Corporate Mass of the Rosary Altar Society will be on
April 7th at 9am. Please join us for the recitation of the
Rosary at 8:45am in the vestibule of the Church.
Our meeting on April 8th will be the annual Baby

CONNECTING CHURCH AND HOME:
Today is the most important celebration in
all of Christianity: The Resurrection of Our
Lord Jesus Christ. The Liturgical color is
white. (Sometimes gold is also worn on
Easter Sunday.) Today we stand in spirit at
the empty tomb of Jesus and marvel that all
the words of the ancient prophets, and
Jesus’ messages about His rising over the
sting of death are fulfilled. Together with
other Christian denominations, we
acknowledge that Jesus is the Promised
One, the Messiah, the Lamb of God, our
Redeemer who is the fulfillment of God’s
promise to save us. The Easter message is
one of hope, perfect love, sacrifice, and
victory. Christians sometimes call
themselves Easter people and so we are.
We are people who have risen with Jesus in
Baptism and continue our journeys through
this life as faithful followers of Jesus.
Today’s Gospel, (John 20:1-9) identifies
Mary Magdalene as the first person to
discover that Jesus’ tomb was empty. Mary
initially thought that Jesus’ body was stolen.
Clearly Jesus’ death was very traumatic for
His closest followers and now no body was
shocking to Mary. We are told that she
immediately went to Peter and John to say
that the stone had been rolled away and she
didn’t know where Jesus’ body was. Peter
and John quickly head for the tomb. John
arrived first and saw the burial clothes on
the ground. Peter went in and saw that the
head cloth was in a different place within
the tomb. When John followed Peter into
the tomb and saw the cloths, he believed
that Jesus’ body was not stolen. He had
risen! John was able to understand how the
times Jesus had referred to rising on the
third day was fulfilled!
Children are usually quite excited to hear
the Easter story. They can also easily get
caught up in the customs of Easter and so
the candy, eggs, goodies and even gifts
can drown out the true meaning of the
Resurrection. The Easter story is exciting
on so many levels and children need us to
break it down for them.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church
states, “Easter Sunday is ‘the feast of
feasts’ in which we celebrate the Paschal
Mystery most fully. Each person
becomes part of the Paschal Mystery
through Baptism. (CCC, 1169))
This week, with younger children, bring
them into the church for a visit this week
and point out the signs of new life in the
Church. Let them take a close look at the
Paschal Candle, the many beautiful plants
and flowers, and give particular attention to
the Holy Water. Have them bless
themselves with Holy Water as a reminder
of their Baptism. Continue with the Signs of
New Life by showing them pictures of
butterflies, baby animals, and end the
conversations with reminding children of
our own everlasting life that God has given
us through the Resurrection. Fortunately, it
is spring in the United States so the children
can easily see things beginning to blossom!
Arrange an Easter egg hunt with plastic
eggs that contain symbols of Easter such as
Bible passages, the word Alleluia, short
Bible passages, a heart, a plant leaf, a flower,
and a cross. Connect the various egg
contents with the Easter story. Teach
children about the word Alleluia. Alleluia is
a prayer of joy. We praise God who raises
us to new life. Point out the word Alleluia
when it is repeated at Mass. (You will hear
it a lot during the Easter season!) Older
children should be encouraged to take a few
minutes to think about what their response
would have been if they had arrived at the
empty tomb. Sometimes, we can read about
the people of the Bible and not give any
thought to how they had very real, often
“normal” reactions to the events around
them. Then end such a conversation about
how we are blessed by God with the gift of
Faith which gives us Hope that God’s Love;
can sustain us in all circumstances. Like
John, “the Beloved Disciple,” we can express
our belief in the risen Jesus and let His glory
shine through us.
