Shrine is believed to be the residence of the spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken.

Tour Guide: (In Japanese) Kon'nichiwa! Welcome to Japan! I am your tour guide for today. Let's start
our tour by visiting the famous Meiji Shrine.
Tourist: (In Japanese) Kon'nichiwa! I'm excited to be here. Thank you for guiding us.
Tour Guide: (In Japanese) You're welcome! The Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the
deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. It's located in a beautiful forest, and it's
a great place to learn about Japanese culture and history.
Tourist: (In Japanese) That sounds wonderful. I'm looking forward to it.
Tour Guide: (In Japanese) Great! Let's make our way to the shrine then. On the way, you'll notice
many torii gates. These gates mark the entrance to a sacred space and are a common feature of
Shinto shrines.
Tourist: (In Japanese) I see. They're beautiful.
Tour Guide: (In Japanese) I'm glad you think so. Once we arrive at the shrine, we'll need to cleanse
ourselves before entering. This is done by purifying our hands and mouths at the chozuya, or water
purification basin.
Tourist: (In Japanese) How do we do that?
Tour Guide: (In Japanese) First, pick up a ladle with your right hand and scoop some water. Use the
water to rinse your left hand, then switch the ladle to your left hand and rinse your right hand. Finally,
use the remaining water to rinse your mouth. Just be sure to let the water run out of your mouth and
don't drink it.
Tourist: (In Japanese) Got it. Thank you for the explanation.
Tour Guide: (In Japanese) You're welcome! Now let's enter the shrine and make a wish at the main
hall. Just throw a coin into the offertory box, bow twice, clap your hands twice, and bow once more.
Tourist: (In Japanese) Thank you for showing me how to do it.
