why. ..........................................................................................................................................

......... New technology is the most significant cause of globalization because people can

2 Study Source 3.

(a) ‘Globalisation is good for everyone.’

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the argument supporting this claim?

The strengths of the argument that support this claim are:

● They use many examples-

● Relevant, and clear explanations were used-

● Evidence-Researched African article from 2016.

● The use of language is also formal.

Weaknesses are as mentioned below:

● Provision of statistic information which is important in supporting an argument. The argument use

does not have an author and a year of publication.

● In addition, the argument is more like a belief and an opinion, state why… because the author didn’t

mention much about facts.

● Only few facts to support the claim

● The research is mainly biased since it didn’t mention about disadvantages.

Any other points?[6]

(b) ‘Learning about other cultures makes people more respectful.’

How could you test this claim? You may consider the types of information, sources of evidence or
methods you might use.

I would test this claim by checking the secondary sources of information that people have

done and the statistics. I might also interview people from various cultural backgrounds in

particular, schools, workplaces and community events to understand their points of view

and analyze the respectful behaviour exhibited by participants towards individuals from

other cultures. I would also test it on my own through traveling to other countries and

learning about their cultures by talking with the locals. Moreover, I would compare

individuals from different cultural backgrounds to assess the differences in their levels of

respect towards other cultures. Also, I would use observational techniques to directly

observe individuals’ behaviours in multicultural places such as giving them questionnaires

which also does not take time too much, very easy to do since it’s just to shade the box, or

cirlce the correct answer. I can obsevre the surveys completed by the experts.

Good 4/8- You have all the points, please develop them fully!

May I kindly share a link to an answer sheet with developed points so that you understand

how to go about answering the different questions. Link:

Phyu Sin Win, please try to finish editing so that I can upload your marks on the system.

(c) Explain why Brigita’s statement might be biased.[3]

Because her statement only includes her personal experience and she didn’t consider other

perspectives. For example, her statement “ My father lost his job on a farm when tractors were introduced”

implied her personal experience. There might be others who liked that change. Another statement

“Migration should be stopped” expressed bias for some reasons. Her statement lacks in-depth research

and she oversimplied a complex issue by suggesting that migration should be stopped instead of

considering diverse points of view. Therefore it’s biased since she only focused on negative sides.

(d) Which argument is more convincing, Brigita’s or Davor’s?

Your answer should consider both arguments and you should support your point of view with their
words.

You should also consider:

• the strength of their reasoning and evidence

• their use of language
• the different types of information used.
When evaluating the arguments presented by Brigita and Davor, it becomes evident that
Davor's position carries more conviction due to several reasons:

Strength of argumentation and supporting evidence:

● Davor’s argument is bolstered by empirical evidence and citations to research studies and expert
viewpoints. As an illustration, he cites Professor Anya’s research on migrants, which indicates that
migrants net positive contribution to the economy. This underscores a logical and evidence-based
approach to reinforcing his viewpoint.
● In contrast, Brigita’s argument relies primarily on personal anecdotes and subjective observations
such as recounting her father’s job loss on a farm and expressing concerns about overcrowding the
schools and hospitals. While personal experiences may lead to emotional support to an argument,
they may lack the precision, and dependability of empirical evidence.

Use of language and tone

● Davor’s language is characterized by a more measured and objective tone, as he concentrates on
presenting factual information buttressing his arguments with evidence. He acknowledges the
potential downsides of globalization while underscoring its overreaching benefits.

● On the other hand, Brigita’s language is more emotive and exaggerated. Her tone conveys a sense
of fear and apprehension, which could resonate with individuals who harbor similar concerns about
globalization but might not effectively appeal to those seeking a balanced and reasoned perspective.

Evidence

● Davor’s argument encompasses a wide array of information, including economic statistics, research
discoveries, and endorsement from organizations such as the Open Borders organization, The World
Trade Organization, and the International Monetary Fund. This demonstrates a thorough grasp of
the issue and draws upon a multitude of sources to substantiate his assertions.

● Conversely, Brigita’s argument relies predominantly on personal anecdotes and subjective

observation which may diminish its persuasiveness among individuals who prioritize empirical
evidence and objective analysis, notwithstanding the general significance of evidence in arguments.

In conclusion, Davor’s argument holds greater sway due to its reliance on empirical evidence, measured
and clarified language, and extensive utilization of information from diverse resources. In contrast, Brigita’s
argument raises valid concerns: however, its emotive language and absence of reliable evidence diminish
its persuasiveness compared to Davor’s logical, relevant, and balanced argument.

4 Your government wants to benefit from the opportunities of globalisation.

The following actions are being considered:

• build a new airport and other transport links

• improve training in information technology
• allow more people from abroad to live and work here.
Which one of these actions would you recommend to the government, and why?

In your answer you should:

• state your recommendation

• give reasons to support your choice
• use the material in the sources and/or any of your own ideas
• consider different arguments and perspectives.
.........................................................................................................................................................

. In an era defined by rapid globalization and technological advancement governments around

the world are constantly seeking avenues to leverage these trends for the benefit of their

nations. In this context, the recommendation to focus on improving training in information

technology emerges as a compelling choice for governments aiming to capitalize on the

opportunities of globalization. In this essay, I will explain the reason behind suggesting IT.

First and foremost, investing in IT training is pivotal for fostering economic growth and

innovation. The IT sector stands as one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving industries

globally, serving as a catalyst for innovation across various sectors. By equipping citizens with

relevant IT skills, governments can fuel entrepreneurship, and attract investments from

multinational corporations. Consequently, this fosters job creation, enhances productivity, and

contributes to overall economic prosperity.

Moreover, investing in IT training promotes inclusive growth and social equity. ...The digital

divide remains a persistent challenge, with marginalized communities often lacking access to

technological resources and opportunities. By prioritizing IT training, governments can bridge

this gap, empowering individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to participate

meaningfully in the digital economy.

Furthermore, While alternative actions such as building new airports and facilitating immigration

also hold merit, prioritizing IT training offers unparalleled advantages in the context of the digital

age. Unlike infrastructure projects that may yield primarily localized benefits, investing in IT

training has far-reaching implications for the economy, job market, and societal development.

Moreover, it underscores a commitment to fostering self-reliance and harnessing the potential of

the domestic workforce, rather than relying solely on external talent or infrastructure.

In conclusion, the recommendation to prioritize IT training emerges as a strategic imperative for

governments seeking to harness the opportunities of globalization. By investing in IT education

and skills development, nations can unlock new avenues for economic growth, enhance their

global competitiveness, promote social inclusion, and foster resilience in the face of

technological disruptions.
