Time: 60 mins
Reg. Number:

1. Consider the continuous time system shown in the figure below:

Let input 𝑥(𝑡) = 𝑖(𝑡) and output 𝑦(𝑡) = 𝑣(𝑡).

i. Find the input – output relationship.

ii. Determine whether the system is
a) Memoryless
b) Causal
c) Linear
d) Time-invariant or/and
e) Stable
Clearly justify your answers.

2. Is it possible for a non - causal system to possess memory?
Give reasons for your answer.

3. Let 𝑥(𝑡) be the complex exponential signal given by 𝑥(𝑡) = 𝑒 𝑗𝜔0 𝑡

with angular frequency 0 . Consider the discrete time sequence 𝑥[𝑛] obtained
by uniform sampling of 𝑥(𝑡) with sampling interval 𝑇𝑠 . That is,
𝑥[𝑛] = 𝑥(𝑛𝑇𝑠 ) = 𝑒 𝑗𝜔0 𝑛𝑇𝑠
Find the condition on 𝑇𝑠 so that 𝑥[𝑛] is periodic.

4. Evaluate the output 𝑦[𝑛] of an LTI system if the input 𝑥[𝑛] is given by
𝑥[𝑛] = 𝑢[𝑛 + 3] and the impulse response ℎ[𝑛] is given by
ℎ[𝑛] = 𝑢[𝑛 − 3], using discrete time convolution.

5. Evaluate the output 𝑦(𝑡) of an LTI system if the input 𝑥(𝑡) is given by
𝑥(𝑡) = [𝑢(𝑡) − 𝑢(𝑡 − 2)] and the impulse response ℎ(𝑡) is given by
ℎ(𝑡) = cos(𝑡) [𝑢(𝑡 + 1) − 𝑢(𝑡 − 1)], using continuous time convolution.
