Famous Singers

(A) Elvis Aaron Presley

Elvis was born in Tupelo, in 1935, and was an American musician and actor, and was regarded as one of the most
significant cultural icons of the 20th century. He is often referred to as 'the King'. Many feel he owed his success to his
manager Colonel Tom Parker, and in the beginning, Elvis looked upon the Colonel as almost a second father. Under his
brilliant, skilful and cunning guidance his one and only client, Elvis, reached unimaginable heights. But Elvis grew restless,
feeling the Colonel had limited his Hollywood career, and felt trapped. He died in 1977 at the age of 42 of a drug overdose,
having sold an estimated 600 million records worldwide, which is a record. He won three Grammys, also receiving the
Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.

(B) Francis Albert Sinatra

Frank, who was born in 1915, was an American singer, actor, and producer who was one of the most popular and
influential musical artists of the 20th century. Sinatra's music has been considered timeless by many. He is one of the
best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide. He became famous as 'Ol' blue
eyes' making him very popular with his female fans. His singing career took a back stage to his work as an actor and then
as a producer, as he became more and more successful. His parents were Italian immigrants, and there were always
whispers of his association with the Mafia, which had a negative effect on his career. He was awarded the Presidential
Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, the Congressional Gold Medal in 1997, and died in 1998 at the
age of 83.

(C) Michael Joseph Jackson

Michael Jackson was born in 1958 and was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. He was
called the King of Pop, for his contributions to music, dance and fashion. His publicised personal life made him a global
figure in popular culture for over four decades. He became famous with his four brothers as part of the Jackson 5, which
was the family music group. He went solo in 1971 and never looked back. He is recognized as the Most Successful
Entertainer of All Time by Guinness World Records, and Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Jackson died in 2009 of a drug overdose, and Forbes ranked Jackson as the top-
earning dead celebrity, for a sixth consecutive year, with $115 million in earnings.
(D) Prince Rogers Nelson

Prince, who was born in Minneapolis in 1958, was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record
producer. He was a musical innovator and known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant dress and
makeup, and wide vocal range. His music integrates a wide variety of styles, including funk, rock, RnB, new wave, soul,
psychedelia, and pop. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all
time. Prince died from a drug overdose at his home in Minnesota, in 2016, at the age of 57.
