Chapter extra 1
Source: Instadoses

Sang Zhi had nothing to do during her summer vacation and had a
very leisurely life. Sometimes she would be asked out by friends to
play, but she spent the majority of the rest of the time alone at
home, drawing.

Occasionally, she met with Duan Jiaxu.

Unlike her, Duan Jiaxu was busy at work, working overtime every
day until 11 or 12 p.m. His time off was squeezed out like toothpaste.
Except for the occasional single break, he had basically no time in
the day.

At normal times, Sang Zhi could only find him during meal times.
But compared to her in Yihe, where they were long distances away
from each other, it was a lot better.

Knowing that starting a business was already tiring, but Duan Jiaxu
still took time to accompany her as much as possible, Sang Zhi didn’t
feel angry either. She just thought that the days were too boring.

Hence, Sang Zhi began to find something to do for herself on top of

her other original tasks.

Because of a video on the Internet, Sang Zhi has somehow gotten

interested in cooking. There were a lot of ingredients at home, and
she didn’t have to go out to buy them, so when the excitement
struck her, she just got up and ran to the kitchen.

After watching the video, Sang Zhi followed the steps on it and
finished it carefully step by step. She felt that every step of her
operation was perfect, except when it came to the pan, ready to stir-
fry.

Sang Zhi had a remarkable principle in doing things. It didn’t
matter if she made a fool of herself, as long as it didn’t hurt her skin
and flesh.

On working days, she was the only one at home.

So however Sang Zhi tossed, nobody would know.

She stood there and thought for a moment, washed her hands and
went back to her room. She dug out an ankle-length long coat and
wore it, and then wrapped her neck with a scarf.

After another contemplation, Sang Zhi put on gloves, a mask, and

a pair of non-prescription glasses. She took out an eye mask from the
drawer and covered her forehead, then marched out of her room.

Just as she walked to the dining room, there was a movement at

the door.

Sang Zhi’s heart beat heavily. When she lifted her eyes, she met
Sang Yan’s gaze as if was looking at a retard. She was a little
embarrassed and stood stiffly in place. “Brother, why are you
back?”

“To get something.” Sang Yan scanned her up and down and
said, “Are you going to wear this out?”

Sang Zhi replied honestly, “I plan to fry an egg.”

Sang Yan, “…”

A few seconds of silence ensued.

Sang Yan suddenly took out his phone and took a picture of her.

Sang Zhi was stunned, “What are you doing?”

Sang Yan returned naturally, “Sending it to my circle of

friends.”

Sang Zhi’s eyes widened, and she stepped forward to grab his
phone, “Are you that bored?!”

Sang Yan raised his hand up, tilted his head, and let his fingers fly
on the screen. His other hand held down Sang Zhi’s head and pushed
her away.

When he uploaded it successfully, Sang Yan turned off the screen,

“Okay, you fry your eggs.”

“…” Sang Zhi stared straight at him, resisting the urge to go up

and beat him to death. She suppressed her temper, fished her phone
out of her pocket and looked at her friends circle.

There was no new content.

She raised her head suspiciously and asked, “Did you block
me?”

Sang Yan was walking towards the room, but upon hearing this, his
footsteps faltered and he answered lazily, “You got it wrong.”

Sang Zhi, “?”

“I sent it to Duan Jiaxu.”

“…”

Sang Zhi pursed her lips, opened her chat window with Duan Jiaxue
and took a look. He was probably still busy and did not look at his
WeChat, so he did not look for her either.

Forget it. It wasn’t like she didn’t embarrass herself in front of

these two people, so Sang Zhi simply brushed it off. But she felt
unhappy again, so she scrolled through her phone album and found
an ugly picture of Sang Yan and sent it to Wen Yifan.

Sang Zhi went into the kitchen again.

She turned on the fire, and when the oil was hot, she poured the
whisked egg mixture into it. She heard a crackling sound, but the oil
didn’t exploid as she imagined.

Sang Yan entered the kitchen at this time and took the spatula
from her hand. “Get out of the way.”

“…” Sang Zhi wasn’t at all pleased. “I want to do it myself.”

“I’m afraid of an explosion in the kitchen.”

Sang Zhi stood by, staring into the pot and muttering, “You are
too exaggerated. I think I got it pretty good.”

“Do you usually cook by yourself?” Sang Yan asked casually,

“Aren’t you hurting yourself?”

“…” Sang Zhi retorted unwillingly, “I don’t usually make my

own and order take-out. I just want to make a bento today,
and if it’s delicious, I’ll take it to Jiaxu-ge for lunch.”

“Oh.” San Yan understood. “You want a new boyfriend.”

“…”

This time, Sang Zhi couldn’t help herself, “What I cooked is not
that bad.”

Sang Yan just finished scrambling the eggs and served them in the
bowl next to him. He lowered his eyes, and said in a tone particularly
courting a beating, “Duan Jiaxu treats you quite well. There is
no need for you to harm others.”

Sang Zhi couldn’t be bothered to argue with him.

Seeing the chopped vegetables and meat she set aside, Sang Yan
extended his hand, lifted his chin and simply helped her fry a piece,
“Bring it here.”

Sang Zhi moved her lips and wanted to say something, but finally
compromised and handed him the plate.

Sang Zhi took advantage of this time and went back to her room to
change her clothes. After that, she returned to the kitchen, took out
two lunch boxes, filled them with some rice and seriously arranged
the plates to make two bento.

Sang Yan washed his hands and said, “I’m leaving.”

Sang Zhi: “Brother, did you drive here?”

“Hmm.”

“Then drop me off at my boyfriend’s on the way.”

“…”

Sang Zhi put the lid on the lunchboxes and placed them in a bag
with a somewhat odd expression. “I planned to take my time and
cook him a romantic bento, but everything turned out into
you making half of it. What is this?”

Sang Yan’s eyebrows jumped.

“It’s really a bit strange to say out loud.” Sang Zhi cooed, “I
made a love bento for my boyfriend, with my brother.”

“…” Sang Yan said expressionlessly, “Take a taxi by yourself.”

Sang Zhi informed Duan Jiaxu on WeChat that she was going there.
She hadn’t been to his studio before, and only passed by the area
when she went to look for him.

When she walked to the office building, Sang Zhi happened to see
Duan Jiaxu’s figure.

Duan Jiaxu walked toward her and helped her carry the bag while
asking in passing, “Did you make it yourself?”

Sang Zhi directly ignored Sang Yan’s credit and nodded, “Mm.”

Duan Jiaxu said with amusement, “Wearing like that?”

Sang Zhi frowned. “Do you want to laugh at me too?”

“No.” Duan Jiaxu hugged her and raised an eyebrow. “You’re

quite cute. From now, wear something like that when
cooking. As long as you don’t get hurt.”

Sang Zhi volunteered, “I should do another for you

tomorrow.”

Duan Jiaxu smiled again. “Okay.”

After a while, he asked, “Why do you suddenly want to cook?”

“I have nothing to do,” Sang Zhi said, “I feel like cooking is

quite interesting.”

The two took the elevator upstairs and went into the studio.

It wasn’t spacious. The heads of a dozen people were inside, and

they were eating takeout at this hour. Hearing the movement, a
bunch of people who were chatting turned their heads in unison and
looked in their direction.

Duan Jiaxu gently introduced, “My girlfriend, you just call her
Sister-in-law.”

Once these words fell, a neat and loud chorus immediately

sounded, “Hello, Sister-in-law!”

Sang Zhi: “…”

She felt a little embarrassed but she forced herself to play it cool
and greeted them. When she turned around, Duan Jiaxu dragged her
to his desk. “Sit here.”

Then, Duan Jiaxu pulled the chair next to her and sat on it. He
opened his lunchbox and said with interest, “Can you cook now?”

Sang Zhi explained, “I did it by reading the online

instructions.”

Duan Jiaxu seemed in high spirits but still instructed, “Pay

attention to yourself. Don’t cook if you’re unsure. I can eat
take-out.”

“No.” Sang Zhi said, “It’s fun.”

In the next few days, Sang Zhi tossed every morning everyday
and cooked two bento out. Although the taste was a little worse than
those Sang Yan fried, it was still acceptable.

Sang Zhi often went to Duan Jiaxu’s studio and naturally also
chatted with his colleagues a few times. They all knew her existence,
but just have not seen the real person.

This enthusiasm lasted less than a week, and Sang Zhi began to
feel that cooking was extraordinarily uninteresting and could not be
motivated. The day she woke up, she stayed in bed for a while and
told Duan Jiaxu in advance that she wouldn’t drop by today.

She thought she could go back the next so high, so she stayed in
bed with her tablet for the rest of the day.

The same was true the next day.

And the next day. Tomorrow was another day, but Sang Zhi never
entered the kitchen again.

After Sang Zhi did not arrive to deliver food at noon, Duan Jiaxu
lived the life of eating takeout with his colleagues every day. He
didn’t mind this too much and was worried that she would get hurt if
she stayed in the kitchen all the time.

But for some reason.

His colleagues did not think so.

One noon, Duan Jiaxu heard them chatting in the pantry.

“You know, I always thought that Boss was merely

bragging about having a girlfriend and just wasn’t interested
in falling in love, that he randomly made up excuses.”

“Yeah, yeah, I thought that too, because I’ve never seen

him bring her out.”

“No, he’s either on the phone or looking at his phone in his

free time. That’s the look of someone who has a date.”

“He has a girlfriend at first glance! I heard him talking on

the phone last time, and do you dare you believe that such a
terrible boss is actually acting like a baby?” A man began to
imitate his tone very greasily, “Kiddo, why are you so fierce?”

Duan Jiaxu’s eyelids twitched.

“And don’t you guys think Boss is a bit scary lately?”

“A bit.”

“Right? I also feel that from the time Sister-in-law didn’t

come, he looked like he’s smiling, but there seems to be a
dagger hidden in his smile.”

“Did the boss get dumped? Otherwise, why did Sister-in-

law stop coming all of a sudden?”

“I think that’s possible. Rumors have it that Sister-in-law

seems to dislike Boss a little and thinks that he is old. I also
secretly heard that Boss is actually 80 years old.”

“Holy shit.”

“Holy shit.”

“36 years old?”

“Boss’s condition is quite good, right? But Sister-in-law

seems to be still in college. There’s quite a bit more than age
difference. I think he really likes Sister-in-law. Except for
work, he would always find her. It gives off the feeling that
he’s a little clingy.”

“Forget it. Let’s drop it at that.”

“Yes, Boss probably also does not want others to know and
is holding up in front of us.”

“All right, let’s all pretend we don’t know.”

Duan Jiaxu: “…”

He tugged at the corners of his mouth, did not enter the pantry,
turned his head back to his position and gave a call to Sang Zhi.

Duan Jiaxu casually asked, “What are you doing?”

Sang Zhi: “Drawing.”

“Are you free tomorrow?”

“Yes.”

Duan Jiaxu fell silent for a few seconds and said, seemingly
unintentionally, “Come over and bring me lunch.”

Sang Zhi did not notice anything abnormality.

After ending the call, Sang Zhi flipped out her phone calendar and
looked at it. She calculated the time and found that a week has gone
by since she brought Duan Jiaxu lunch without her knowing.

Somehow, probably because of Duan Jiaxu’s tone just now, Sang

Zhi inexplicably also felt guilty.

For fear of forgetting this, Sang Zhi even set an alarm clock before
going to bed. The next day, she woke up and found a cooking video
she was interested in and stayed in bed to watch it several times
before going into the kitchen.

Sang Zhi tasted the flavor while cooking and felt that her output
today was better than what she made before.

She licked the sauce from her lips.

She pondered. Should she tell Duan Jiaxu that she has not gone
over this period because she has been practicing her cooking skills?

She entertained all sorts of ideas for a while.

Sang Zhi carefully packed the bento, put it in a bag, and left the
house. She timed it right, took the subway and arrived at Duan
Jiaxu’s office, just in time for lunch.

Sang Zhi had been there many times, so she dissuaded Duan Jiaxu
from going down to pick her up and directly took the elevator up.

It was probably because of the lunch time that the studio door was

left open.

Sang Zhi walked in but didn’t see Duan Jiaxu in his place. She
blinked, took out her phone, and sent him a message.

One of the men noticed her. He froze, nudged the shoulder of the
person next to him, and then took the initiative to greet her, “Sister-
in-law, Boss went to the toilet. Take a seat for a while.”

Sang Zhi still felt a bit unnatural having these men who were older
than her calling her Sister-in-law. She nodded and walked over to
Duan Jiaxu’s seat and sat. Then she took out both bento lunches from
the bag with her.

Just as Sang Zhi opened the lid, someone asked, “Sister-in-law,

why haven’t you come over recently?”

She turned around.

As she was about to answer, she suddenly noticed Duan Jiaxu’s

figure from the corner of her eyes. She instantly swallowed the
answer that reached her tongue and turned her gaze to him.

Duan Jiaxu approached and looked down at her, “How long have
you arrived?”

Sang Zhi: “I just got here.”

He pulled over the chair next to him, took a seat, and suddenly
called out to her, “Zhizhi.”

Sang Zhi looked up: “Huh?”

Duan Jiaxu glanced around and lazily asked, “They are asking
you. Why don’t you answer?”

“…”

The attention that was diverted by him made a comeback at once.

She had no idea if he was upset, so she stared at him hesitantly for
several seconds. And then, she cautiously and slowly uttered the
excuse she cooked up today, “I don’t think my cooking is very
good.”

Duan Jiaxu: “Hmm?”

“That’s why I’ve been practicing my cooking skills hard this

time.” Sang Zhi did not dare to look at him in fear of being caught
lying. “Taste it. Today’s dish is better than before.”

Barely had the words fell than it dawned on the man who had just
asked Sang Zhi. “So that’s how it is! We thought——”

Before he could finish, the man next to him covered his mouth.

Sang Zhi wondered, “What did you think?”

As if he didn’t hear them, Duan Jiaxu picked up his chopsticks and

looked at her gently. “If you don’t want to do it, don’t. If you’re
bored, go out and play with your friends.”

“…”

These words sounded normal, but at this turn, Sang Zhi

inexplicably perceived something weird. Moreover, whether this man
was angry or happy, she couldn’t tell from his expression.

Sang Zhi swallowed and said seriously, “I didn’t want it.”

Duan Jiaxu looked at her sideways.

Sang Zhi added, “I’d love to.”

After a pause, she simply condemned him in turn, “Did you just
don’t want me to come over?”

Duan Jiaxu’s eyebrows stretched out a bit. He looked at the group

of adults who were listening to their side of the movement with their

Sang Zhi always felt it odd.

After the meal, she took advantage of the time when Duan Jiaxu
went to throw out the garbage and found the youngest and the least
tight-lipped guy there to question. It didn’t take long to find out the
reason.

Guy: “Sister-in-law, you have not come recently, and we all

thought you and Boss split up.”

Sang Zhi: “…”

Guy: “Plus, Boss has been in a terrible mood recently. We

believed you dumped him.”

Sang Zhi: “?”

“After all, I heard you say that he’s 80 years old,” the guy
informed, “A man who is nearly forty years old and has not
married must be a little sensitive deep inside. Sister-in-law,
be nice to Boss.”

Sang Zhi fell silent for a few seconds: “I should be referring to

those born in the 1980’s. He was born in 1989.”

“…”

Sang Zhi did not expect that her absence here in the past few
days spread into this way.

——He has a promising future. He owned a car and a house, but a

female college student dumped him because of old age.

She instantly understood the reason Duan Jiaxu called her over to
deliver lunch.

He definitely must have heard them gossiping.

Sang Zhi returned to his spot to play on her mobile phone.

Soon, Duan Jiaxu came back from outside and brought her a drink.

Sang Zhi poked the straw into the cup, took a sip and peeked at

suddenly felt somewhat amused, and the corners of her lips curled
up.

Duan Jiaxu looked at her. “What are you laughing at?”

Sang Zhi laughed to herself for a while. Her eyes curved into
crescent moons, and she reached out to poke him in the face,
revealing two small pear vortices on his cheeks. “An old man with
an age burden.”

“It’s okay.” Sang Zhi reassured him, “You are just old, but
your looks are not yet decaying.”

The school year began months ago, and ushered the long awaited
National Day Holiday.

Sang Zhi bought a ticket home in advance. After her last class on
the 30th, she got on the airport bus.

When she arrived at Nanwu Airport, it was just after 12 noon.

Sang Zhi didn’t bring any luggage, so she didn’t check it in, and
only carried a small school bag. She walked out along the exit and
soon met Duan Jiaxu who was waiting outside.

Duan Jiaxu approached and held her hand. “Let’s go, let’s go
eat.”

Sangzhi looked at the time and asked, “Do you have to go back
to the office later?”

Duan Jiaxu: “Yeah.”

Sang Zhi: “Do you have a National Day vacation?”

Duan Jiaxu: “Three days.”

Sang Zhi said, “Oh.”

The two left the airport.

Duan Jiaxu led Sang Zhi and walked in the direction of the parking
space. She wasn’t sure of the location and didn’t look at the road,
just looked down at her phone. Not long after, she suddenly heard
someone calling out to her behind her, “Sang Zhi?”

At the sound of the voice, she turned around.

What caught her eyes was a tall and thin man.

It was her classmate, Fu Zhengchu.

It hasn’t been long since they last met each other which was at the
summer reunion.

Compared to junior high school, Fu Zhengchu has not changed

much. He only looked taller, and his outfit also became a lot more
mature, but his temperament still remained sunny with a sprinkle of
silliness.

Seeing that he was not mistaken, Fu Zhengchu smiled. “Are you

home for the National Day?”

Sang Zhi stopped in her tracks and nodded. “Why are you
here?”

Fu Zhengchu: “My grandmother is here, so I came to pick her

up.”

Duan Jiaxu also stopped. His gaze lightly swept over Fu Zhengchu,
and his expression turned pensive. The next second, his eyebrows
raised, as if he thought of something, then the corners of his mouth
also ticked upward.

Only then did Fu Zhengchu notice the man standing next to Sang
Zhi.

He looked at Duan Jiaxu and asked politely, “Who is this?”

Sang Zhi replied honestly, “My boyfriend.”

Perhaps Feng Zhengchu also found Duan Jiaxu a bit familiar, so he

stared at him for several seconds. Fearing that this might seem too
forward, he coughed lightly and withdrew his eyes. “Then I won’t

Sang Zhi waved her hand at him and said politely, “Go ahead,

Then, she and Duan Jiaxu continued to walk forward.

Before she took a few steps, Fu Zhengchu called out to her again
behind. This time, there was more disbelief in his voice, as if his
outlook had been turned upside down. “Sang-Sang Zhi!”

Sang Zhi turned around again. “Huh?”

But Fu Zhengchu’s eyes didn’t rest on her, and instead shot

straight at Duan Jiaxu, as if he remembered something. He looked
like lightning struck him. His lips moved, but could only utter a word
in the end, “Nothing.”

Sang Zhi was also baffled: “Then go pick up your grandmother

quickly. Don’t make an elder wait long.”

He fell quiet for a moment and nodded his head.

This time Fu Zhengchu didn’t say anything else and turned around
into the airport.

After he left, Duan Jiaxu pinched her fingers and said slowly, “If I
remember correctly, you made this boy cry before, didn’t
you?”

Sang Zhi muttered, “How long ago was it? Have you not
mentioned it, I probably couldn’t even remember.”

Duan Jiaxu repeated her words just now, “Yes, contact you
when he has time.”

Sang Zhi did not find it unreasonable and could not help but say,

“…”

“How can you still meet with other men behind my back?”

Sang Zhi replied offhandedly, “Class reunion.”

She frowned: “Why are you finding opportunities to find

fault with me now?”

“What do you mean picking a fault?” Duan Jiaxu laughed out

loud, “Don’t be so defensive, I’m an old man with a young

Seeing that he still wanted to turn over these old accounts, Sang

When Sang Zhi left the stall, Zhang Ping couldn’t help himself, and
his tone was less polite this time, “Brother, did you come here

“No,” Ren Guang replied innocently, “I just noticed that this

Senior Sister did not talk much all night and wanted to make

He coaxed the girl next to him, “Come on sister, let’s drink a

Just as Ren Guang finished his wine, he noticed the phone Sang Zhi

boyfriend is looking for you.”

Your boyfriend is looking for you.

It was quite sweet.

But it felt like ice cubes to him, no matter how hot he felt.

He has never met such a difficult one.

Ren Guang’s gaze stopped, taunted secretly, then covertly put her
mobile phone in his pocket. He stood up and said, “I drank too

Once he was out of the store, he picked up the phone: “Hello.”

The caller paused for a moment and asked politely, “Who is

Ren Guang replied calmly, “I am Sang Zhi’s boyfriend, a new

Hearing this, the other end fell completely silent. It didn’t take long
for Ren Guang to hear what seemed like the man’s chuckle. It
sounded so soft, and he seemed to have heard something ridiculous.

“Did you just say you’re Sang Zhi’s new boyfriend?”

“Are you the one I heard my girlfriend say will always call
and harass her?” Ren Guang’s tone didn’t fluctuate half a bit and
said seriously, “No matter which one you are, please don’t
harass my girlfriend anymore. Thank you.”

After speaking, Ren Guang hung up the phone and deleted the
record incidentally. After thinking about it, he turned the phone to
mute, and maliciously pulled the number into the blacklist.

The public restroom’s environment was poor, and it was extremely

stinky.

Sang Zhi forced the sourness that rose in her throat and went in to
wash her face. She didn’t feel much because she was sitting earlier,
but now that she was up, she felt some dizziness.

She also felt itchy in some places.

She lowered her head and noticed a small red rash starting to form
on her arm.

Sang Zhi took a deep breath.

What shitty luck today.

Sang Zhi really didn’t want to go back. She drew a piece of paper
to wipe her face and went through her pockets, wanting to talk to
Zhang Ping directly on WeChat.

calmed down and turned around to go back to the stall.

Everyone began to play a new game on the table.

Sang Zhi saw her phone on the table at a glance and picked it up.
She went to Zhang Ping’s side and wished him a happy birthday,
then mentioned that she had to leave ahead.

Zhang Ping also apologized, lowered his voice and said, “I don’t
know that person. My friend brought him here. I’m really
sorry for today, but I’ll buy you dinner some other time.”

Sang Zhi smiled. “It’s okay. It’s your birthday today, so do

not let it affect the mood.”

Ren Guang was watching their interactions. He raised his voice and
said, “Senior Sister is leaving, huh? There’s no need for that. I
was just joking, nothing more.”

Sang Zhi ignored him and bid the others goodbye.

Ren Guang was not finished: “Senior Sister, how could you
make me so embarrassed?”

Zhang Ping slapped the table: “Hey, that’s enough.”

In the midst of all this noise, Sang Zhi left the store.

drink? Why can’t you walk steadily? Let me hold you up.”

Sang Zhi shook his hand violently.

She did it so mightily, making it seem like she had touched

something dirty. Sang Zhi took a step back, and her temper blew to
the top. She said word for word, “Who do you think you are?”

The curvature of Ren Guang’s mouth remained unchanged.

“Do you know there is a word called ‘self-knowledge’? On

your terms-” Sang Zhi scanned him up and down, with shreds of
mockery in her eyes, “Who gave you that face?”

“Are you looking down on my qualifications? Then let’s try

something else.” Ren Guang’s gaze also cooled down. He pulled
her into his arms and said breezily, “It’s cool.”

Duan Jiaxu stayed up all night for a few days to finish the project in
hand. He was so exhausted that he left the company and didn’t even
have time to go home. He headed straight to the airport and made
up for his sleep on the plane.

Duan Jiaxu didn’t inform Sang Zhi in advance because he was not
sure if he could make it. He also intended to give her a surprise, so
he waited till getting off the plane before calling her.

Then he learned that she was already in her dorm.

As always, his kiddo who was perky has to get ready for bed at this
point.

The thought of seeing her in a while made Duan Jiaxu’s mood

extraordinarily good. When he reached down her dormitory building,
he gave her another call.

When he was about to make a sound and ask her to come down.

A man’s voice surprisingly came from the other end.

His tone was wild and childish, like protecting a calf. He claimed
that Sang Zhi was his girlfriend. It was so comical and wasn’t half a
bit credible.

Then he hung up the phone.

Duan Jiaxu wasn’t angered, but only found it funny and absurd.

But when Duan Jiaxu called Sang Zhi again and found that her
number was unreachable, he gradually began to have other
emotions. This girl just told him on the phone that she was in the
dormitory ready to sleep.

Less than an hour later, a man answered his call instead.

So at the beginning, she probably lied about being in the dorm.

As for the reason, Duan Jiaxu could actually guess.

She was just afraid he would worry and felt that nothing would
happen near the school. Hence, she simply lied to him and made him
feel at ease far away in Nanwu.

Duan Jiaxu trusted Sang Zhi very much.

But he didn’t trust others.

The man on the other side of the phone made him feel uneasy and
unhappy.

Duan Jiaxu couldn’t contact Sang Zhi at present and didn’t know
where she was now.

This emotion was like a multiplied superposition.

Duan Jiaxu tightened his lips, found the number of Sang Zhi’s
roommate, Ning Wei, from his contact list and dialed it. The person
on the other end answered quickly. She sounded like she didn’t
expect to receive a call from him and hesitantly greeted, “Hello.”

“I’m sorry to bother you so late.” Duan Jiaxu said, “I can’t

reach Sang Zhi now, and I’m a bit uneasy. Do you know
where she’s gone?”

“Huh? She said she’s attending a friend’s birthday,” Ning

Wei answered, “But she didn’t tell me where.”

“I see, thanks.”

far. Don’t worry, it’s all friends you know. Nothing will
happen, but let me ask for you.”

Duan Jiaxu thanked her again. He ended the call and ran in the
direction of the school entrance. Thinking about Ning Wei’s words, he
searched for the stores outside the school one by one.

Blindly and bereft of his calmness.

Compared with the man’s words, Duan Jiaxu was more worried
about Sang Zhi’s state at the moment. After all, she would not give
her phone to others, nor would she listen to others saying these
things to hurt him.

What was more, it was late now.

The stores near Yihe University were not many, but quite a few.
Duan Jiaxu searched for a while, just like finding a needle in a
haystack without finding a sign.

His right eyelid kept popping.

Duan Jiaxu was about to continue looking when his phone vibrated
and he received a WeChat message.

Ning Wei sent him a location.

It was a big stall.

At the same time, Duan Jiaxu also spotted Sang Zhi in the distance.
A man grabbed her, and she violently flung his hand away. Her
mouth opened and closed, and thorns sprang up all over her.

The man seemed annoyed, pulled her arm again, hugged her, and
also said something.

They appeared quite in a tangle.

Duan Jiaxu had just sighed in relief, but because of Sang Zhi’s

condition, his hostility instantly surged up. His usual sanity
disappeared in a flash, and his gaze turned gloomy, as if he was
holding back his emotions. He strode toward them.

This talk was no different from sexual harassment.

Sang Zhi wrenched herself away, raised her hand with all her
might, and gave him a slap on the face.

Ren Guang’s head swung and licked the corner of his lips. His lips
got torn, and he quickly looked at Sang Zhi again with loads of
disbelief in his eyes. Then, he also raised his hand.

In the next second, a man appeared next to Sang Zhi. He was tall
and striking, but without any expression on his face. He stepped
forward and kicked him in the stomach.

Ren Guang had no time to react. He didn’t have any defense. He

uttered a muffled grunt, stumbled backward along with the force,
and fell to the ground.

Afterwards, Duan Jiaxu turned around to examine Sang Zhi. He

scanned her face and every part of her that was exposed to the air
and asked softly, “Did he hit you?”

Sang Zhi didn’t know how he appeared here out of nowhere, but
her tense nerves instantly loosened, and she trailed off with a
shudder.

“No.”

Duan Jiaxu stared at her arm: “What’s wrong with your hand?”

Sang Zhi sniffled, “Allergies.”

“Go wait outside.” Duan Jiaxu stroked her head and said
soothingly, “Don’t be afraid.”

After saying that, he walked over and squatted next to Ren Guang.

Duan Jiaxu exerted a lot of strength just now, so Ren Guang has
yet to stand steadily, covering his stomach and huffing backwards.
He stared at Ren Guang as the curvature of his lips slowly rose and
said carelessly, “Fellow student, who are you bullying?”

Ren Guang’s temper exploded, and he lifted his leg to kick him:
“Fuck, are you fucking sick?”

Guessing his move, Duan Jiaxu directly stepped on his leg. He was
still smiling, and his eyes curved into crescents, appearing
extraordinarily gentle. But the act done, however, did not match his
expression at all.

Hearing his agonizing screams, Duan Jiaxu only slowly moved his
legs away. He grabbed his hair instead, slammed his head into the
ground, and asked again.

“Who are you bullying?”

There were onlookers, mostly students, nearby. The owner of the

store heard the commotion and came out to diffuse the fight for fear
that it would affect his business.

Zhang Ping also came out. He recognized Duan Jiaxu and was
afraid this would lead to the police station, so he couldn’t help but
advise, “Brother, let’s forget it.”

Duan Jiaxu, however, seemed unable to hear anything at all. He

was stunningly beautiful, gentle and easy-going. But his force was
relentless. Ruthlessness painted his eyebrows and eyes, and he
exuded a chill.

Like a heavenly god who just climbed up from hell.

Sang Zhi was also afraid that something might happen, so she
called out anxiously, “Duan Jiaxu!”

Hearing these words, Duan Jiaxu stopped. He lowered his eyelids,
loosened his grip on Ren Guang’s hair, and laughed lightly, “Forget
it. I’m afraid I’ll scare my girl.”

“…”

“Also, let me tell you something. Even if my girl really

wants to cheat, she won’t look for a guy like you——” Duan
Jiaxu rubbed the blood on his hand onto Ren Guang’s clothes,
lowered his voice, and said gently, “to humiliate me.”

Most of Ren Guang’s injuries were flesh wounds. He was obviously

furious to the extreme. His chest was undulating, and his words were
seemingly squeezed out of his teeth. “I’m calling the police.”

Sang Zhi pulled Duan Jiaxu behind her, completely unafraid of it.
“Okay, let me also call the police to say that you sexually
harassed me.”

Zhang Ping echoed, “Fellow classmate, we also witnessed

everything just now. It was you who started the trouble.”

Even the ambiguous object of Ren Guang did not stand on his side
anymore. After all, she saw how Ren Guang pestered Sang Zhi all
night long.

The others persuaded them to settle the fight.

A girl who knew Ren Guang said, “Senior Sister, leave first.
We’ll persuade him.”

Duan Jiaxu wasn’t at all afraid and was even interested. When
others were persuading, he took the initiative to hand his phone to
Ren Guang: “Report it.”

There was no penalty for this injury at all. At most, he would just
pay some compensation.

However, Ren Guang was worried that Sang Zhi would sue him for
sexual harassment. Even if they couldn’t settle the case, it would be
hard for him to get to school. He stared at Duan Jiaxu and didn’t say
a word. Unwillingness was written all over his face.

He could only curse, “You are sick.”

“Try troubling her again,” Duan Jiaxu smiled, “I’m really not
afraid of going to jail.”

It was the first time that Sang Zhi had seen Duan Jiaxu so angry.
She used her strength and pulled him away. She was also obviously
quite annoyed because of his words: “What do you mean you’re
not afraid of going to jail?”

Duan Jiaxu looked at her: “How long has this person been
pestering you?”

“…” Sang Zhi froze and thought back, “About a month, but he
didn’t appear much some time ago.”

Duan Jiaxu lowered his eyes impassively: “Why didn’t you tell
me?”

Sang Zhi honestly said, “I was afraid you’ll be unhappy.”

“Have you been bullied before?”

Duan Jiaxu’s brows stretched out, then he warned flippantly,

“Don’t give me a chance to mean to you, okay?”

He waited waiting for Sang Zhi to go back to her room and tossed
around in the kitchen for a while. He then went out to the living room
and picked up her phone on the coffee table. He opened her address
book and dragged himself out of the blacklist.

Looking at the list, the corners of his lips curved up.

Sang Zhi didn’t take a long shower and soon came out. She sat
down at the dining table, finished the hangover soup that Duan Jiaxu
had just cooked, and was called over to the sofa by him.

They just bought medicine for internal and external applications.

Duan Jiaxu pulled her wrist and began to help her apply the
medicine. He frowned and said, “The next time you eat beef and
mutton, I’m really going to beat you up.”

Sang Zhi’s eyes were still red. She blinked and was not scared at
all, “Then beat me.”

Duan Jiaxu raised his eyebrows: “Don’t let there be a next

“You just don’t want to beat me.”

“Hmm.”

Sang Zhi smiled and stared straight into his face. “Duan Jiaxu.”

“Okay.”

“Did you buy me a present?”

“I bought a necklace,” Duan Jiaxu replied, “I’ll put it on for

you later.”

“Mm.” After he finished one hand, Sang Zhi switched to another

hand and said slowly, “I was feeling so unlucky today. I
overslept this morning and was scolded by my teacher for
being late for class. Then I lost my meal card and got hit on
the head by a basketball when I was walking along the
playground. I went to a friend’s birthday party and met
someone I hated and suffered from allergies again.”

Duan Jiaxu carefully applied medicine to her and replied in passing,

“So pitiful?”

“But I feel as if I concluded too early.”

“Hmm?”

Sang Zhi whispered, “I feel lucky today, seeing you.”

Even if seeing him only made up such a small part of the day.

But it rendered the majority insignificant.

The second semester of the fourth year of college.

One time during a chat with Ning Wei, Sang Zhi heard her say that
her boyfriend had proposed to her.

While on the subject, Ning Wei couldn’t restrain herself from

giggling, “Don’t you think he’s too funny? He is really shy, and
then in that bar, he even sang me a love song on stage,

Sang Zhi listened with interest.

Ning Wei: “The point is, he was so nervous that he got down
on both knees.”

Sang Zhi burst out laughing.

At the end of the conversation, Ning Wei was also curious about
her: “Where is your Duan-ge? Did he mention it to you?”

Sang Zhi thought: “He has said that we’ll get married after
graduation, but I do not know if he will propose. Moreover, I
think he is so high-profile, so I am a little worried.”

“Ah?”

“Just, I kind of want to beg for it myself.”

“…”

In fact, Sang Zhi wasn’t against it, just a little embarrassed. As

Ning Wei said, she went on stage and accepted her boyfriend’s
proposal in full view.

She felt very surprised and happy.

But Sang Zhi felt that if this kind of thing also happened to her, she
would definitely also feel happy, but probably a little uncomfortable.

But when things really came, it was not at all what she had
imagined.

Duan Jiaxu proposed to her on the day of her graduation

ceremony.

This was one of the more significant events of her life. That day,

www.asianovel.com

Sang Rong, Li Ping and Sang Yan all came. This scene was like going
back to years ago, she accompanied her parents to Sang Yan’s
graduation ceremony.

Only this time, the protagonist changed from Sang Yan to her.

Sang Yan brought his camera and lazily took pictures for her.

Sang Zhi felt that his shots weren’t good, so after posing for a
picture, she went to him and instructed him a few times. They even
got into a quarrel. Duan Jiaxu also contributed a few words to calm
her down, and took dozens of photos for her at the side.

After the graduation photo, Sang Zhi suddenly received a red rose
from a stranger. Then, as she walked further, another group of
people came up to give her flowers, one for each.

There were also some classmates who knew her, and even Sang
Rong and Li Ping participated.

Sang Zhi suddenly realized something.

Honestly, with so many things that had happened, she had a

hunch.

From the moment she woke up today, Sang Zhi had an extremely
strong premonition. Relying on her understanding of Duan Jiaxu, he
would definitely choose today to propose to her.

It would also be very high-profile and very old-fashioned.

High profile pragmatic man.

Under the guidance of the crowd, Sang Zhi saw Duan Jiaxu in the
middle of the road. At this moment, she actually did not have any
energy to spare for the people next to her and did not care at all
about other people’s gaze.

Sang Zhi had imagined this scene a thousand times.

Perhaps it overlapped with a certain image she’d been thinking

about.

But it still made Sang Zhi feel that she would never forget this
scene in her lifetime.

Duan Jiaxu was dressed very decently today – white shirt and
black suit pants and also with a tie. He was holding a very large
bouquet of roses and slowly walked up to her.

Sang Zhi suddenly wanted to laugh a little.

Duan Jiaxu lowered his jaw and also smiled. He was lean and tall,
with black hair and eyes. He was outstanding, and possessed overly
beautiful features. He looked eye-catching and ostentatious, standing
in the light.

A few seconds passed.

“After you told me your secret before, I didn’t take it very

seriously. Let me talk to you about this matter.” Duan Jiaxu
stared into her eyes, put away his smile, and looked more than a
little serious, “Back when I saw you crying as you told me that,
I was always worried about whether it would make you feel
very sad.”

“So I didn’t quite dare to mention it.”

The little girl exposed all that was in her heart.

With all her courage, in her own way, she told him.

——I admit that between us, I like you more.

“Also never mentioned to you, I’m actually not the kind of

person, who likes a person, will immediately go for it.” Duan

Jiaxu licked the corner of his lips and said seriously, “Before
showing my liking for you, I also had secretly, secretly loved

“I also haven’t mentioned to you that I’m not the kind of

Jiaxu licked his lips and said seriously, “Before I showed my love
for you, I secretly crushed on you for a period.”

He also suffered from the struggle, because of low self-esteem,

because he felt unworthy of her.

He would flinch at her reaction or feel ecstatic when he received a

response from her.

“Maybe you thought, don’t tell me that this Duan Jiaxu will
just live the rest of his life with me because I was suddenly
beside him, because I was good to him, and then found that I
also like him.”

Duan Jiaxu coughed lightly: “Maybe you also did not think so,
but I’m afraid you will think that, so I still want to mention
it.”

Sang Zhi whispered, “I have thought about it.”

But that was a mere thought.

Now, it was long gone.

“Did you really think about it? You’re really heartless.”

Duan Jiaxu laughed, “I used to think that living a lifetime alone
does not matter. But I don’t really think it’s okay. I just
haven’t met someone like you.”

There had never been someone who made him want to disregard
others’ opinions and crawl out of the abyss of inferiority.

www.asianovel.com

No one had ever encouraged him to fight for something.

So it was impossible to settle.

Because he simply did not have the courage.

Until he met her.

Duan Jiaxu pulled the corners of his lips and knelt down on one
knee: “But you make me, suddenly want to try it very much.”

Sang Zhi’s heart was beating wildly. She was so nervous that she
couldn’t breathe. She listened to his simple words, but her eyes were
unconsciously red: “Try what?”

“To love someone,” Duan Jiaxu said word for word, “against all
odds.”

He tilted his head and whispered “kiddo” ever so lightly, and

then, solemnly finished the rest of his line, “So, are you willing to
marry me?”

How could she not be willing?

This was something she had imagined for many years.

Sang Zhi took the flowers in his hand: “Oh.”

Duan Jiaxu was actually a nervous wreck. When he received such a

response, a crack instantly appeared on his expression. He dropped
his head like a laugh, and quickly added: “That’s your response,
huh? Do you want to see me cry?”

“No. When I say ‘oh,’ I mean,” Sang Zhi sniffled and said
earnestly, “I mean, I’m totally willing.”

Seven years later, the day she had imagined had finally come.

Wearing her bachelor’s uniform, under the sunlight and with

proposal.

Seven years ago, there was also such a day.

She was wearing a clean dress, standing next to Duan Jiaxu in his
bachelor’s uniform. She was happy to see him again, but sad to the
core because of their impending parting.

She clumsily hid her thoughts, not daring to let anyone find out, no
matter how close they were. She imagined that one day in the future,
she must stand by his side.

At that time, Sang Zhi must not have thought.

Seven years later, the day she yearned for finally arrived.

As she wished.

Sang Zhi has truly become the one beside Duan Jiaxu.

If it was a normal day, he would have walked Sang Zhi around the

Sang Yan unexpectedly met a person.

The young girl fully tied up hair, revealing her smooth forehead.
She had beautiful features, a fair and clean face. She was wearing a
simple T-shirt and jeans, standing outside the bookstore, looking
down and flipping through the exercise books spread outside.

It was very quiet, but also very conspicuous.

After staring for three seconds, Sang Yan looked thoughtfully at

Sang Zhi, who was pulling the doll aside and playing with it. He bent

“Zhizhi.”

Sang Zhi looked at her and obediently said “Hmm.”

Sang Yan continued, “Go over and tell her that you can’t find
your older brother…”

Before he could finish his instructions, she noticed that Sang Zhi’s
face was slowly reddening, and her expression took on a more
evasive look. Sang Yan paused and frowned: “What are you
blushing for?”

Sang Zhi covered her face and stared at Wang Yifan in between
her fingers. With her round bright crystal eyes, she squirmed and
said, “That sister is so beautiful. I-I am so shy to go.”

“…” Sang Yan rebuked, “You even feel shy?”

Sang Zhi brushed him off and said with a blush, “Gege, I want to
find such a good-looking one in the future.”

“At such a young age, what are you…” Reminded that he

needed this kid’s help, Sang Yan swallowed back the word “dream”,
and perfunctorily coaxed, “Ok-ok. When you grow up, also find
someone so good-looking.”

Sang Zhi agreed deep inside, then Sang Yan said, “Go ask her.
Ask if you can borrow her phone to give your brother a call.

“Oh.” Sang Zhi honestly reasoned, “But I can’t remember your

Only then did Sang Zhi move and confirmed hesitantly, “You’re

“Can’t you complain if I lie to you?”
